Ali has been doing good work in regards to getting his fighters fights, but he's going to crash and burn if he keeps this thug shit up.

Derrick Lewis vs Volkov for the co-main on Conor/Khabib? Really? They can't do better than that?

Yeah I don't get this either. They should really stack the main card and prelims with fighters they really want to push or have exciting styles. Zabit Yair, O'Malley, Adesanya, Dern and many others should have been on this card. I know it's not necessary but putting a second title fight as the co main would've been great. This is one of the few times a year they will have a million+ eyes on the sport and to co headline with Lewis Volkov is pretty dumb. Two sloppy heavyweights (Volkov isn't but not impressive in any way) isn't going to make people buy another UFC card. Only the next Conor card at best.

I keep seeing that Conor doesn't want people taking a PPV cut on the card but I dont know if there is truth to that.

That seems far less likely than UFC having no interest in paying PPV points to somebody who isn't actually increasing the draw more than Conor and any 8 random schlubs on the main card below him.

This is a calculated decision. They're saying "Fuck it, what are you going to do, not buy the fight?"

I try not to pay attention to athletes' personal lives, but the Andrea Lee stuff bummed me out. I thought she was an idiot months ago for sticking up for a Nazi, but now it all makes sense. Hope she gets the help she needs and that dirtbag gets locked up. (again)

Paul Harris supposedly unaware of weight limit, weighs in 218 instead of 185

Back to the aforementioned superfight: Palhares was the boogeyman in this bout, a 218lb, 5'8" monster with a bad reputation of tearing limbs and injuring opponents. Maybe this infamy has finally had an effect, maybe it was Jones's own reputation as a limb destroyer, but this was the most subdued Palhares we've ever seen.

The Brazilian refused to get off his knees and sat in front of Jones for the full 15 minutes, playing a defensive posture that offered zero opportunity for the Aussie submission specialist to attack. The problem was, Palhares did nothing to advance position and offered nothing of note throughout the match. At one point, a voice in the crowd urged Palhares to get off his knees such was the level of inactivity during the match.

Jones took the win via penalty points accumulated against Palhares. It was the most undesired outcome possible. "I was focused on not dying," says Jones in his post-match interview. "It looked like the Brendan Schaub approach."

He's not wrong. Schaub became infamous in the grappling world for his awful stallfest vs Roberto Cyborg in 2013, so much so that "Schaubing" entered the grappling lexicon for somebody who runs away from a match. Maybe Palhares will no longer be associated with brutal leglocks, but instead with kneeling unmoving in front of an opponent.

Not how I was hoping Craig would get the win.

I kinda want Conor to win because of the chaos that would ensue when he doesn't defend his title again. Maybe it would get Khabib to understand he needs to learn how to strike to lead into his takedowns properly. Maybe it will get the UFC to learn that Conor will draw fighting a broom, he doesn't need instant title shots. Nah, that won't happen, they don't learn.

That and I feel that Tony is the rightful champ anyways.

I wonder if the UFC is petty enough to fire Yair for this.

On the other hand, dunno why he didn't do this in the first place.

Not liking that match, but I think its obvious Tony is mainly there to be ready for anyone dropping out.

Jesus Christ, the UFC could at least pretend to give a shit about their fighters health.

There is no way his knee is 50%, let alone 100%. This is deplorable. Like you need to step in for some of these people.

Tony is fucking himself over.

He needs to give himself enough time to heal properly rather than taking a fight where he has to also be mindful to prepare for two other opponents beside the one he's supposed to be fight. He's fighting for the title next. He's the uncrowned king of that division. If he needs a warm up fight, there's no reason to have it this early either.

Also, the UFC are sending a bad message by not giving Lee the Pettis fight. The dude made it public he was staying ready so he wouldn't have to get ready in case someone pulls out. Now he looks like a dickhead and the UFC looks like they don't reward proactive fighters.

Pretty decent card tomorrow. Rooting for Gaethje to get back to winning, but he's going to get fucked-up bad by Vick if he hasn't learned defense yet.
