A while ago, Netflix quit working on the original Nintendo Wii. This just seems so dog-stupid that this would work, but apparently, according to this post on Reddit, you can get Netflix to work once again by setting the date back on the Wii (poster went for the year 2010).

YMMV as I found it and can't confirm it. Someone please test as I am away from my Wii. :(

I figured if any forum could confirm or deny for us all real quick, it would be this one. ;)

EDIT: Thanks to Camjo-Z for confirming. It works! lol

Yeah I guess that's a fair question. A kitschy sort of curiosity?

Let's Dance still comes out on the platform... Periodic Let's Dance rest break entertainment?

This seems so unnecessary when Netflix is on everything and who wants to watch stuff in SD like a peasant.

I need to keep this in mind. The Wii is set up in the living room where the bf mostly watches TV while all of the other systems are set up in my computer room.

Yeah my wife preferred the Wii for a long time. I even tried to get her HD with a PS3 and she hated the interface.

People like the Wii for its point-and-click ease. Of course she's since moved on to a Roku, but hey this is still cool for those that want it... if it works.

Thinking about the code for this cracks me up.

if (date > cutoff)
stopWorking();

I could have sworn my friend's parents still used their Wii for Netflix. I wonder if they just haven't touched it in years and I have neglected to notice

Tbe Wii Netflix interface was actually really nice to navigate with the Wii Remote. The Wii U was even better with a touchscreen though you lost the lightness of the Wii Remote. Unfortunately they updated the Wii U version early this year and removed touch control. I know my neice was disappointed she could touch to navigate like she did since she was 3 but she's over 4 now and surprisingly figured out how to at least select a title and play it with the A button.

I actually have a crt tv for the kids so thanks for this op.

I also keep a CRT in my room for old games. Though really for PS2 and GameCube games since the majority of Wii stuff support wide-screen and little less also support 480p. Then again I also have three LCD TV's (19, 24, 32) set up too so one CRT isn't too odd.

I had to pack up some stuff when a relative was staying overnight last month in my room and don't want to unpack it right now.

I actually have to spend that $175 I have on my Wii U Wii Shop Channel account before January. I already spent over $200 on the last day you could add money before adding the $175.

In a weird way, I get why people would want this. There are a lot of Wiis out there & the majority of them are owned by people who only got it for Wii Sports. This can still be their Netflix box, especially for older folks. I can dig it.

I thought my fucking gamepad was broken for the longest time, since I only used it for netflix lol.

I actually have a CRT set up for myself for lag-free retro gaming (but my kids occasionally game on it, too. They seem to not mind the pre-HD presentation). Mostly NES, PS2 and Wii. We very occasionally use the CRT Wii for Netflix so this info will come in handy.

I may try this out for myself later today. It is always such a strange experience watching Netflix on a CRT; it is like I traveled back in time with streaming technology.

My family uses wii everyday to watch netflix. It is the easiest to nevigate for us instead of ps3 or laptop hooked to tv.

This is actually useful? My mom has one of those super cheap HD ready TVs in her bedroom and she likes watching stuff there except that thing doesn't have any apps so she's bound to the awful stuff on cable. I might set up my old Wii for her which I don't need so she can have Netflix.

Even better

If (localdate < arbitrarydate)
connecttoserverwithadateonit();

Lol
Exactly.
Like, how? Why?

This makes no sense, I have no idea why or how this should work...and yet it does, apparently

Edit: now that I think about it, I do have an idea: the netflix app might have had an end-of-life date, sort of like you could easily pirate some software in the past by turning your PC's clock back in time. The server might not check the validity of the software at all and trust whatever the client says.

In much the same way that old games look better on a CRT, I wonder if old episodes of Deep Space Nine and Voyager look better on a Wii on a CRT, since they declined to remaster anything but TNG in HD.

You can also just give her a chromecast or something and use her phone for Netflix and stuff.

Unless your parents still use flip phones.
