So it was advertised as a public town hall and the coward is spinning this into something else... what a shocker.

she also banned the press from the Bronx town hall lmao

Trump bans a single CNN reporter... a Democrat banned them all.

Hahaha you basically implied that I have to choose her side because I'm a progressive. That is absolutely what a no true scotsman fallacy is! I'm sorry I'm calling a spade a spade.

I have absolutely valid criticisms of her and you people fall over yourselves to absolve her lying because she wants universal healthcare. We deserve candidates who don't lie that represent our ideals. That's what I'm getting at.

And just to note since comparing her to fucking Trump apparently is what some of the defense is in here, she's obviously better than Trump. A fucking cooked carrot is better than Trump even if they're the same fucking color.

You keep saying she's lying. She's made hyperbolic statements. That's not lying. Stop being dishonest.

Why are you comparing the president to someone who is not in office. While I think this is a flub, comparing the two is absurd

Vice City
my reps don't even hold town halls, and i live in a major city

here's a candidate with substantial policies, and in trumps fascist administration, rightfully gives a space to vulnerable constituents, just once - of course the same press bending over to appease said admin is not gonna treat a leftist fairly here, but some of the responses from y'all are embarrassing

User Warned: Drive-by post, thread whining
Before i entered this thread (did not see previous title) knew it would be negative. Why? No one on ERA would ever make a positive thread about a young woman of color running for office :)

There are other postitive threads, just because you have not seen them does not mean they don't exist.

Pretty sure the majority, if not all of us praised her when she handled her first "issue" regarding Thomas Lopez-Pierre who was a volunteer for her campaign and also an avid anti-semite. She was able to handle that quickly, with class, and we were able to move on.

This was a bit more confrontational of her, and also comes with a fair amount of spin which doesn't appear like she wants to take any sort of blame for an unforced error here with her double speak.

Such a weird pushback against her, to me it makes sense to want to allow people who are worried about cops, ICE, etc to talk to someone without worrying about press and stuff reporting on them or getting caught up in some drama where the cross hairs get turned on them by bad people. If anything it is a bit charming and refreshing to see a politician willing to talk to people without being surrounded by press for the "good PR". Of course, a cynic may think she is purposely doing it for good PR but thats sort of a rabbit hole to run down into.

There is a weird mentality some people (not all) in the press have that they are somehow the backbone of society and without them present to validate things, nothing good can happen, comes across very poorly sometimes in social media.

It doesn't make sense to some people here.

AOC has been very open with the press ever since she won her primary and she is going to continue to be open with the press. Instead of her holding a "fundraiser" with $1500 dinners, she holds an event that is catering to her future constituents who might not want to be around a lot of press. This is a non story

There is nothing wrong with having an event specially for vulnerable people and asking the press to stay away. People have been snatched by ICE after talking to reporters.

Let's just be honest here. People are desperate to make her look bad because she's dangerous to the status quo of both parties. So that's why she's being held to the highest standard I've ever seen outside of a presidential candidate despite only being on the scene for a few months.

Establishment dems proving once again they come down harder on progressives than they ever have against conservatives.

Some on the far left can't admit someone they like can make a mistake.

Exactly. Dems lose all backbone when facing the GOP but as soon as some uppity leftist tries to say something, it's like there's a blowout sale on spines.

What exactly are you basing this on?
Have you just someone managed to not see the hundreds of anti Trump threads?

the event wasn't specifically for vulnerable people.

I'm more offended by the spin and rewriting of what the event was advertised to be than the mistake she made.

One error, which can one can argue is not an error since the event is dedicated towards immigrants and abuse victims who probably don't want their names faces and stories broadcasted to the world an opening them up for abuse and harassment, and you have a cavalcade of people in this thread calling her stupid, unfit for office, Trumpian, and a fucking liar.

"cavalcade"
Perhaps you should go back and see just how many people did that.

Edit: I don't get the one poster who argued about her being a Liar.
I see an argument for being uninformed, but not a liar thus far.

That's fucking silly since you couldn't escape seeing her on TV since the runoff. Sounds like she didn't want to give the right ammo, and if she's running as a democratic socialist she should be prepared to go all in.

This reads more to me that it was public only to constituents in her district. It even says if you have an organization that would like to take part please contact them.

They could have been more clear, but I don't think her or her team were being combative to the media or meant any ill will.

The mainstream press is out to get her since she doesn't serve the rich. If she just wants to talk to constituents, they can fuck off. The press is angry that they don't have a sound bite to try to smear her either. Seung Crybaby Kim has to go back empty handed to Jeff Bozo and tell him she's got nothing.

TBH I'm sure her intentions were good, but if it's a Town Hall setting open to the public. Then you really can't ban the Press. It just doesn't set a good precedent at all.

I'm sure there are plenty of avenues where she can meet those constituents in a private setting.

All of this over a simple mistake that they've already said won't happen again?

I'm just poking my head in, but the paper that wrote the story is a rather small weekly publication based out of Queens that only covers Queens. It wasn't some giant paper, in fact it's one of the only two or three papers (all very small weeklies) in the city that would be giving her the sort of local issues coverage that congressional representatives often seek. This wasn't the NYTimes, this was the paper that's going to cover and print a story on every press conference and statement she gives, no matter how small, once she gets elected. This wasn't some right-wing publication or something owned by a multi-billion dollar company. This is the paper that exists to help her get her message out to her constituents and advocate on their behalf as the larger papers have pulled back from Metro coverage.

I'm not saying this whole thing ain't silly, it is, on many levels. I'm just saying we should be honest about what the paper printing this story is and is not.

I am being honest. Crybaby Kim in the OP works for the Washington Post, which is owned by the US' wealthiest person. He runs Amazon warehouses like a chicken coop, I don't care about what a reporter he owns has to say about AOC.
