Because banning the free press is such a progressive thing to do.

Her excuse is that she is too "high profile."

Ugh. Not the way to go into a campaign. Hopefully this is just a one-off and doesn't become a repeating thing.

That's because her campaign banned members of the media from attending the event, which was otherwise open to the public.

Soon after her victory came numerous profiles in high-profile publications like The New York Times and Rolling Stone, guest hosting shows on the online progressive news network The Young Turks and appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

According to Ramos Rios and campaign spokesman Corbin Trent, that unwanted attention led to a press ban both for last Wednesday's listening tour stop in the Bronx and Sunday's in Corona.

After reading the whole article I see her point and understand that she is not actually banning press from all events.

The actual details and context of this make it seem far different from what the thread title or original post implies. Definitely not worthy of condemnation, and hopefully tribalists will not pick up on this and misrepresent reality.

Not to be rude, but did the OP read their own article? It's not unheard of for press to not be allowed at a particular event, and it's made pretty clear that this is not going to be a ongoing thing.

I agree that it should really never happen though.

If anything, this will be a test for news outlets to see if they won't run with an awful clickbait headline.

''Young socialist candidate bans press!"

I don't know what their pressers were leading up to it, but if they made it clear that it was meant to get a more open discord with the residents, then I'm leaning to this feeling more like a hit piece.

Of course it was a one off spun negatively. Fuck it, go full bore and ban the press, since their only interest seems to be to flay an aspiring leader before she can get any of that pesky progressive policy on the party.
