Makes no sense. Why would you keep a chin of that size if you're putting a freaking notch at the top?

The whole idea behind the notch is that it's a compromised full-body screen. It's a design choice driven by a technical limitation. Makes no sense having a notch that big if you're keeping the chin so unashamedly

So it looks like the Pixel 3 (regular) is the way to go if you're looking for a Pixel? Man Google sucks at designing phones. It's like they literally have zero clue what people want in their phone design.

Android sites/tech enthusiasts care, but can you say the same for normal folks? I doubt most people know what stock Android is.
Normal folks can barely buy the Pixel as is. It's not nearly as available as other phones, you have to go directly to Google and even then it's a coin toss whether they even sell it in your country or not.

I don't think Google particularly wants to sell Pixel's. It's more that they gave up on waiting for android manufacturers to bring their latest stuff like the Assistant to market and resorted to making their own hardware instead, so at least they can show off cool stuff like the appointment-making phone calls and things like VR and AR.

As for the market for stock and quick updates, there's plenty of manufacturers now that are doing that outside of Google. You might need to wait a month or two tops for Pie on your phone now, that's manageable (and if it's not, you can get the beta on your phone today).

I have the original Pixel XL, I was planning to upgrade this year to the 3 but man it looks worse and worse. I guess I'll wait to see what the official phone looks like when they do their press conference but my hopes are at an all time low. I'll probably have to look elsewhere.

I wonder if they fixed the trash Exynos optimization for the Note 9... and if some fixes make their way down to the S9/+. 3-4 hrs SOT is unacceptable in 2018. S6 tier lmao

Corroborated from pcmag person. He's seeing November though.

If oneplus is bringing that sexy oppo posted above with the fancy notch and triple camera system for $550, along with a good ad campaign, shit can be lit.

I'll grant that the 6T's specs are going to be great but they could plate it in gold for half the price and I wouldn't use a device from a company out of China.

I've been contemplating the Galaxy S9 for a while as it ticks several boxes for me:
+ Reasonable size (I hate how big the OnePlus 6 is)
+ Headphone jack
+ Has all the bells and whistles of a high end phone at a sub 600 euro price point.

As far as I know all other high-end phones are bigger than the S9, or have I missed any?

Also, any current owners willing to chime in on some negatives? I guess the lack of Android P is the big one at the moment, plus the usual lackluster support from Samsung later in its lifecycle. Anything else?

Pretty legit since they have spent a ton of cash on fixing their shitty network. It's not Verizon good in terms of coverage, but it's fine if you live in most cities.

I have Verizon and I think it sucks. I always thought ATT was the best, but looking at rankings and such T-Mobile is up their in terms.

Speaking of China, zte is back. Gimme that double notch phone.

This is very ignorant. All hardware is made in China. Software is a completely different story.

If you buy a US company's phone you are not giving your data to the Chinese government even though the phones are made there.
Exploits can be set at the chip lvl, but these days with how much stuff in the west is tied to the big China conglomerates like tencent or alibaba, China government already has all your data one way or another.

Even though I mostly agree with you, OnePlus is WAAAAAY different than the others Chinese companies.

They are very... How can I say it?... Western oriented?

And Oxygen OS is the single best Android software out there. It's better, faster and more feature heavy than Google's stock Android.

They're getting better. Legre has been putting a lot of money into improving the network. I switched last year when they came into South Dakota and I've been super happy. Between them paying for Netflix and the military plan (which is the best for any carrier), I'm getting great service and my bill is cheap ($124 for two lines, and will be under $100 when we get one phone paid off).

It still has issues in more rural areas, but that should get better as 600mhz gets fully up and running and more phones start to support it.

t-mobile is fine where I live, but I just took the amtrak zephyr trip from chicago -> SF, and plenty of places with zero coverage, mostly in like utah and colorado when not near the cities, but I still can see a interstate.

I'm pretty sure I had similar issues when I road tripped through utah on at&t though...

Oxygen OS couldn't be good enough to use a Chinese company's phone IMO.

Poweramp 3.0 is pretty amazing actually. Native support for hi-res 24-bit/192 khz audio is pretty great.
It's still a public beta build but so far it seems plenty stable and must be very close to final public release stage.

I'm still in love with my 5T, I'm not ready for a 6T already.

Unless they do the Vivo Apex thing and have a slide-out camera with no notch. Then I'm all in.

T-mobile also has pretty good out of the country coverage.

I did a big trip to France and Italy and didn't have to worry about paying extra for an international plan or anything.

Ohh wise Masters hear my plea! My almost 3 year old Google Nexus X5 got rocked by a little kid and had it's screen crack. Welp time to upgrade. I'd look a another Google phone but we all see what the hell is going on with the latest Pixel phone. Not sure I wanna pay over a 1k for a Note 9 either. That leaves last year's model the Pixel 2 and the Note 8. Can you guys help me find the more attractive pick between the two? Been using a Google Fi phone plan and can't say I've been leveraging more then the basic features of my phone. Also with the new flagships around the conrner they are both looking at a price drop yes?

Don't know why, but the news icon in the top left of Chrome is the final straw. Guess I'll try Brave you guys were talking about

Hardware-wise every smartphone on the market is Chinese, in a sense.
What really make them shitty is the software.

With that said, Oxygen is one of - if not THE best Android "interpretation", and is totally worth buying a smartphone for.

Thank you. I'll keep waiting for more updates then.

Edit: So glad TMobile is getting OnePlus. Finally get to try the phone in store. Phone seems large in videos. Thinking I might wait to see the SD855 flagships . Eyeing xz3 compact.

I mean ultimately it's a Chinese company's software. My issue isn't just hardware, it's hardware and software; I can't and won't accept devices from there and it's already bad enough that the assembly happens there as is.
