...Fueling our excitement on this potential partnership even further, GameInformer recently sat down with Blizzard senior producer Pete Stilwell and PR manager Joshua Wittge to fantasise over potential crossovers with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The conversation actually took place around the time of the recent Smash Bros. Direct, and the two were asked about which characters they'd love to see in the game...

GameInformer said:
...Blizzard senior producer Pete Stilwell laughed, but gave a quick answer. "Personally, yeah, I'd love to have Diablo. That to me is the immediate one. Then if we had over time, eventually the heroes, go through all of them...or you could go really awesome and only have Deckard Cain."...

Just quoted some of the article. They even discuss what Nintendo characters they would love to feature in there games. Read more at Game Informer. It seems like after Ryu Nintendo is open to a lot more 3rd party characters. What are the chances of Diablo being an AT or character? A Diablo game is finally coming out on a Nintendo system, so it's a possibility. Seems like everyone would love their characters to be in Smash!

Coming from the company behind Heroes of The Storm, I would imagine they would love to have more representation of their IP's, especially to those outside of their ecosystem.

Tracer would be better but I guess they're saying loudly enough that Diablo 3 is coming to switch these days instead of OW

Having never played a Diablo game (Diablo 3 Switch will be my first) I want this purely based on his design alone. It would be so damn cool.

I called Deckard Cain in Smash like 2 days ago.

Deckard Cain identifies trouble!

or

Deckard Cain Stays awhile and listens!

We really should be giving Game Informer the credit for this, they're even in the very first sentense of the quote in the OP. I'm going to alter the title so it's a bit more accurate.

May I ask OP that you do the same with your post.

What if it was a Tristram stage with Deckard Cain narrating the battle and Diablo pops out at some point

Doomfist is literally a love letter to fighting games. Genji and surprisingly Wrecking ball are good too.

At this point I feel like Nintendo can choose whatever franchise they want to include in smash with no outside resistance lol

They need to put out a call on any third parties that are interested in having their characters in Smash Bros Hyper Trinity Alpha Omega Only God Himself Could Make This Game for Switch+.

I want them ALL.

Step 1: Have Diablo as a character or at least a boss/AT.

Step 2: Port the feasible Overwatch to switch

Step 3: Get Tracer as a character.

Step 4: Profit.

tracwr makes more sense but honestly I always saw that potential with the OW roster

wouldn't be surprised if we get a fighter or another genre game out of the OW cast

I can't think of a single Blizzard character that would fit at all. I kinda feel like unless you do two discrete sides and styles like MvC, you can't really mix Eastern and Western characters without the aesthetic just completely devolving into a PlayStation All-Stars shitshow.

Maybe Sakurai could prove me wrong, but I just can't picture it looking good at all.

>inb4 "what about K. Rool, Diddy, and Dark Samus"
It's a testiment to Retro's and Rare's character designers that they made characters that are so distinctive and yet fit so well in their existing series. Still that's a different situation since they were working on a Japanese series under a Japanese company.

I still feel kinda weird about the idea of including Western PC games into what's essentially a love-letter to Japanese console games, so I don't know how I would feel about this.

That said, if there are two characters from PC that can rightly be called iconic, it's Doomguy and some character from the Diablo/Blizzard universe. Although LucasArts comes close. Imagine Guybrush Threepwood or Sam & Max. If Doomguy makes it, I hope he's based on his older look. Nothing against the new look, but it's too gritty and realistic for Smash. The most realistic-looking character Smash has is Snake, and even then, his design remains fairly simple and doesn't look that out of place. 2016 Doom Slayer would.

At any rate, I'll certainly take Doomguy over yet more Fire Emblem or, dare I say, Skull Kid. Maybe it's just because I don't instantly love anything that comes from Zelda, but the Skull Kid rumor, if true, is so disappointing. There are so many more iconic characters that should take priority over it, especially from third parties: Billy and Jimmy Lee, Cody (Streets of Rage), Bomberman (I know he's an assist tropy shut up :( ), Master Higgins, Bonk, Crono, Akira (Virtua Fighter), Heihachi... Even Ryo Hazuki and Alex Kidd.
