I guess he expected a light read, sitting down with that cup of JoeGive Luigi a break, he just learned about the horrors of World War II
From what I've heard (and watched myself) the show is the only redeeming factor of the reboot.
Maybe he opposes the wars in the Middle East. Noam Chomsky (a very notable anarcho-syndicalist) only paid a part of his taxes every year to the US government in protest of massive war spending.
It's actually pretty good. It's probably arguably the best Sonic cartoon or at least joint-best alongside the Looney Tunes style one from the 90s. It has a very similar sort of tone going on, though, where rather than a serious plot it's sort of just dumb, funny slapstick of Sonic and Friends.
I thought all of these points were somehow building up to reinforce Luigi being an Anti-vaxxer lol.

That hardly conclusive that's Luigi's an anti-vaxxer. Considering "Dr." Mario there's holding a bubbling test tube, I'd be heading for the door too!
FACT: Luigi is also a hard-core "Don't tread on me" libertarian
To be fair to Luigi, Dr Mario's treatment consists of just cramming the patient full of pills. We have enough of an opioid problem as it is, "Doctor" Mario!
Dr. Mario is clearly trying to administer a beaker of dangerous, frothing liquid. That's not a vaccine.
At least the Mario one doesn't look like it's suffering painful torture like the Luigi one does.
