I've been meaning to go buy some new jeans, t shirts and shirts for the past couple weekends but ugh, everything I think about it I just shudder.

Wading through busy stores, flicking through the items on the rack, most of which looks terrible.
Find a shirt you like, go to try it on, it'll be too long, or too short, or the sleeves are too tight, or baggy, or anything else.
So you repeat the process a few times, maybe find one item you like that fits every second store.

And then months later seams start to come out and parts start to tear and you repeat the process.

Blah.

Wish I could do it online but I know nothing will fit me.

I try on clothes at the store and if it fits and looks good I buy multiple of that item in different colors so that I don't have to go shopping again for a long time

You gotta find a place that fits you. Don't worry about the size or the number, just try things that fit. And if you need to, go to a tailor to make it fit even better. Great fitting clothes will give you confidence.

Why are there so many threads on here trying to make every day shit sound like rocket science?

If you find a brand that fits you properly, look for/ask for similar brands with the similar fits. There is an inconsistency between them, a size 32 pair of jeans at one store won't be a 32 at another.

I just go in, grab something in my size, and leave. I don't shop for clothes very often at all but when I do it takes like 5-10 minutes. My shopping style is "Get in, get out, nobody gets hurt".
I also have no problem at all with clothes falling apart and I don't spend much on them since I go to like Target, Costco, or Kohl's. I buy inexpensive clothes that tend to last for a really long time regardless.

Wish my problems looked more like that right now.

Do you have someone who can go with you? I love helping people shop. My advice is to find a style you'll feel good in. Look at things you might like online first, so when you go into a store, you have an idea what to look for. This will cut down the time you spend meandering and make it less daunting. If you walk away feeling good about yourself, the process gets much easier. Maybe even make a day if it and get a good haircut/shave combo.

I love it. And I love help shopping for other people. Everyone says they want to go clothes shopping and have me tag along but hardly anyone does it.

The exhausting part is finding styles you like that I think look good on with your body type, skin tone, and finding the right fit.

Shopping with my girlfriend is a nightmare. She likes to window shop and take her time going through every aisle, trying on everything that catches her eye, and making me try on shit that she thinks would look cute on me.

And if I dare put on earphones to listen to a podcast or something

Our first few times hanging out (and having sex) was at a mall so I think she associates walking around buying clothes at malls and shopping centers as a good time on a saturday afternoon. But man that was almost ten years ago. I'm over it. We bought a house a few years ago and after exploring our surroundings we discovered this big shopping center with concerts and movies on the lawn and shit like that right next to it. She was all excited but deep down i was

I like shopping for clothes but I have to be in the right mood or it can be tiring. It doesn't help that I'm picky and can't afford to spend too much.

I have a single brand of shirts I use and a single brand of pants, and I just order them online. Nice and convenient if you're okay with wearing the same thing every day.

I like getting new clothes, but the shopping process is awful. I'm y'all and kind of lanky, so medium shirts are too short, but sometimes a large feels huge. And shopping for pants is online only.

So yes, I agree. Shopping for clothes is awful.

I think I found the issue.
A lot of it are empty promises or when they need to buy clothes they just go out and do it in their own to get it down and over with.

I had a guy friend ask me to do it one day and now he wears the outfit every time we go downtown. That and he loves the brands I showed him. He even talks about it to my friends and they agree he looked good.

-shrugs- I guess some people have to work themselves up to working on their wardrobe and have to desire it in someway.

Look for stores that sell Medium-Tall if that's the case. Remember while shirts shrink not all of them do, even prewashed shirts. Always buy something that's fit your torso and shoulders the best, and if the bottom is a little long leave it. You have options to tuck it in or layer it better with clothes.

If your lanky look at Asian brands like Superdry which are a bit slimmer on the torso for larger sizes.

I hear you OP; I'm not a fan myself. I try to go to early, when less people will be there. I want to be in and out with this stuff.

And then months later seams start to come out and parts start to tear and you repeat the process.

But I don't understand this. What are you doing to these clothes you're buying?

Jeans or pants in general are easy to shop for when you know your size and the style of pants that you like. What always drives me mad is walking into a clothing store and being generally disinterested in the t-shirt selection. The graphic tees are usually bland or cringe-worthy. I hate wearing shirts that have a clothing company name on them.

He's buying cheap clothes.

I'm guessing this based on the fact that he's going to places with unattentive sales staff that won't do half the work he hates for him.

The higher end you go, the better the visual merchandising and better trained the sales staff is. Even if they make commission, it's best to utilize them. Just be firm on what you like and you don't like and be firm on how much you want to spend.

I also hate it. My wife promised me if I got measured at Bonobos I wouldn't ever have to enter a store again. It hasn't quite worked out but it has dramatically reduced the frequency.

I just shop online and buy the size that will most likely fit me. If I don't like it or it doesn't fit I send it back.

Clothes shopping doesn't have to be difficult. If you are buying good quality clothes they generally fit well anyway.

THE PAAAIN.

Sea of bad clothes then you find something nice and it's not in your size. Or it's pricey and not on sale at a good price.

T_T Why do bad clothes even get made? Who even make some of these atrocities and think they will sell?

I swear I see something like this at almost every clearance section in every store ever.

I know fashion is like the complete weakest part of my life. I just don't care. However I understand the benefit of it being a plus. But I just don't have money to drop on clothes, it's like so far down on my priority list. I guess I could at least hit up goodwill.

You need to find places with clothes you actually like. I hated clothes shopping until later in adulthood when I actually felt comfy in my own body and knew where to look.

Clothes are usually bought over a year in advance, so it's just merchants attempting to guess what's going to be on trend.

Ugly clothes are on trend thanks to Instagram. The more unique and awful you can get, the more social media buzz you can generate.

The church backed ones are my favorite because you don't pay sales tax, the prices are generally lower, the facilities are generally cleaner, etc.

Deseret Industries is the shit, for example. It's Mormon backed, and I could probably find a cheap, clean suit for every occasion up in there. Stuff is blocked by color and sorted by product type. It's the best.

The worst thing is vanity sizing. I used to wear a medium or large and now they cut them so large to fit fat americans that I almost have to shop in the kids department

The key is to find the brand that works for you, and stock up on items whenever you can, instead of randomly searching and giving up in stores.

For me its:

Jeans: Lee Daren
Shirts: Selected Homme or Bondelid
T-Shirts: Scotch & Soda
Shoes: Clarks and Timberlands

I've bought 4 pair of Lee Jeans and 7 Selected Home shirts since spring. Don't need to run to stores at all now.

Hate clothes shopping but I do it very infrequently anyway.

I haven't been clothes shopping yet this year. I usually wear my clothes until they begin to look shabby which can be 2 or 3 years.

Buy good-quality shit online from brands/stores that list actual garment measurements. Uniqlo is pretty good about this, and their stuff is decent quality for the price range. Hell, J.Crew will give you measurements if you email them an inquiry on specific items.

Uniqlo USA used to be good until they changed their sizes to accommodate american-sized bodies. Now it's all too baggy.
