How many gaming related publications are still based in San Francisco? IGN and Gamespot right? If these kinds of jobs aren't making enough money to the point it's affecting how they hire people, is there a reason why they stay there other than just they've always been there?

I saw someone mention that some outfit was based in MN, but I can't remember which it was.

Game Informer is based out of St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota.

This is why this thread is never-ending. Every single day there's just more, and MORE, and MORE horror.

Soon we will find out that Filip Miucin is a stolen identity.
I'm expecting the final reveal to be that Filip stole somebody's face.

God's country.

GI Podcast is a still one of my top fave.

On point: I am baffled by how long Filip got away with this...?? Whatever your thoughts, whether he assumed it was akin to the so-called fair usage policy and using others work with a slight twist made it his own? Or he was an outright devious-money grabbing schmuck? This is a case study worth noting.

So I made the original post about seeing his Fight stick video being accused of being copied, and now can elaborate having watched both, the videos in questions are here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iih31oSyX-8 Filip video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxJ0juxJ_Fg nihongo video

a few things stand out, he is clearly inspired by it, both videos have almost an identical shot showing off a carboard arcade machine for the switch, something that has nothing to do with the controller being reviewed. It also re confirmed how little he knows about games, believing sonic the hedgehog, a game on genesis was meant to be played with an arcade stick, this shit is crazy. People were pointing out that his work was copied the entire time. also I have to say this, he thought the meme is "my body is reggie" not my body is ready, this feels like a bot that watched 1000 hours of youtube and this is what came out

We will soon learn that Miucin was a secret plant by Jason Schreier to boost Kotaku's fame and put IGN in a bad light.

Well, I'm sure the novel is going to be great...

Oh boy, I just saw the video and he really does imply that. I'm flabbergasted at this dude. Shit, he did not even know why people were supposed to be excited for Smash Bros Ultimate while being IGN's editor... This situation gets crazier as days go by, holy shit.

Damn it just gets worse everyday. Just when you think it can't get any worse. The Octopath Traveler DMs are something else.

There is no coming back from this at all, even if he apologizes, cries, begs, anything.

I think the only way for him to be able to fix this if he says this was a experiment to show how easy it is to dupe IGN as well as his YouTube fans and the gaming audience. He has a prerecorded video before it all began where he says he plans to plagiarize his way to become a videogame journalist even though he hates videogames

I specifically went to look at these two videos again today. I had watched them months ago when researching the stick, but given everything that happened recently, something told me there's no way he'd know enough about a fightstick to make a proper video. I didn't find too much similarity in the wording but yeh, that cardboard cabinet thing was...eyebrow raising.

I thought that was super bizarre about the Sonic thing as well. I assumed it was just because that was the B roll footage he had of him playing so he went with it .But if he honestly thought Sonic was meant to played with a joystick then I'm speechless .

In regards to the cardboard cabinet, it seems that it comes packaged with the arcade stick. At least that was the impression I got from the unboxing of the other guys vid. So it'd make sense to set it up and use it as well.

I don't understand Filip. He is spending his time editing and producing top notch content in his YouTube Channel. Writing his thoughts and opinions seems to be the easier part.... why is he short cutting that?!

Uhh no, when you suck at writing, writing is not the easiest part.

From what I see, he had the video editing skills, and even had a youtube "personality", but he sucked at writing professional scripts, that's why he lifted them from somewhere else.

And I understand that completely, I once did a magazine-type article about game music, and all I knew and wanted to do was the screenshots and design, but writing an entire page about a game's music? That took forever. So I decided to instead take things other people have said and use that (settle down, I gave credit to everyone).

And this is what I wanted to do:

Does anyone have a link or know in what page I can find the Octopath dms? Just got back from the beach and I've missed the last 30 pages of the thread. I've had a brief look for them but couldn't find them.

Good gravy. I take a day's break from reading up on Filip and come back to even more shenanigans? Props to IGN for handling the hand they've been dealt on this. What an absolute pain to have to clean up after this guy.

The more stuff comes out about this, the more I keep changing my mind on the situation and on him.

I listened to NVC; he seemed affable enough but super nervous at the beginning and definitely the least knowledgeable in the group when it came to Nintendo. Towards the end, I did think he was at least a little more assertive but still didn't really care for his style, but whatever.

When the Dead Cells things came out, I thought it was his "nervousness" at his first full review and in a moment of panic/weakness/whatever he made an egregious mistake.

Then the Schreier thing happened, where he specifically called him out to find more examples that were clearly, readily available with the most superficial of looks. I started to think that maybe he didn't *get* what he was doing was so wrong? Maybe he was just completely oblivious and ignorant to what he was doing and looking at other reviews he agreed with and changing a few words in his mind wasn't the horrendous journalistic error that it is?

That changed in the last few days where i just think that he was just ultimately lazy. I'm not sure why zeroed in on video games (maybe he wanted to play video games for a living... I dunno) but didn't really care about them, or wanted to do any work.

But now, with the most recent tweets from his former co-workers (many now deleted), I think the worst possible explanation is that he knew exactly what he was doing... manipulating people to help him out to cover for his own laziness. He was nice enough and could seem humble and gracious when he needed something and could use or exploit people, but then when he had no need for them, seemingly discarded them. That tweet from Lilly is really telling.

They did okay. They did the right thing with the Dead Cells review but all his written content should've come down asap awaiting review. Giving people the chance to dig more and see he had been stealing his entire tenure was a bad choice.
The main issue is everything we've seen suggests there's just no way he ever should've been hired. The guy was a terrible writer, terrible podcast host and had no passion for video games. I can't fathom how he got past the interview process.

Yeh it doesn't. I eventually bought the stick. It's a totally separate product.

Likely both products were given for review/sponsorship. It's the only proper way to play Sonic Mania after all.

Lily deleted her tweet of the DMs, unfortunately. From recollection:

Filip: Hey Lily I have a question for you.

Liliy: Sure.

Filip: Why are people so excited about Smash?

Lily: I dunno, maybe because it's got all these Nintendo characters from every franchise ever. People want to see who will be featured and what new content there will be.

Filip: Wow, thanks. I was thinking about it totally wrong, but I see you have the right perspective.
I just can't wrap my mind around this one.

I'll keep repeating it, people love to fall for that shy guy, nervous gamer look.

Huh? The image I posted looks like a wikipedia page? With all those screenshots, dark background, and quoted text?

What wikipedia is it that you frequent that looks like that! :P

Remember when people were arguing that he shouldn't have been fired and that he should be given a chance to tell his side of the story as if it was an accident? Y'all were cute with that bullshit.

"As for Boomstick, I have nothing but the best wishes for him, and I hope that his wave of success lasts a long time. A lot of you watching this video might not know my story, but I also started out as a youtuber, so I completely understand what it's like being a small youtuber, trying to make a name for yourself, I mean, Boomstick, just keep doing what you're doing man, it looks like you have a great thing going, and I've got nothing but respect for you." - Filip Miucin

Youtube%20subs_zpsrtcvnfde.png

What if Filip committed career suicide to give the little guy a chance? It's the only thing that makes sense!!

This has to be one of the most bonkers thing I've seen in a while, your job is to play games and give your 2 cents on it, and get paid for doing it, heck the role at places like IGN has evolved so much you practically need to be a youtube personality which is probably why it was the perfect match made in heaven when they first hired him because he already had a body of work out there, and it could be easily integrated under the IGN name, was his review process so deeply ingrained into his personal being that he genuinely thought his plagiarism was "research"?

The DMs were with Youtuber Spawnwave and posted by Spawnwave's friend and fellow Youtuber DreamcastGuy. They were taken down after Spawnwave changed his mind about posting them. So far I haven't seen or been able to retrieve a cached copy. The gist of it was Filip told Spawnwave that he wasn't following Octopath closely but needed to interview the devs in a few days. Spawnwave suggested 4 questions on the spot (good questions, ones anyone interested in the game could come up with though). Filip said thanks, you saved me a ton of work, and used them (verbatim?) for his interview.

Lol I work in writing, what the hell I look like writing perfectly on damn game forum lol. Yall trippin. I'm here to have fun not to impress you. ReyVGM was tryna impress with his article though. He knows I still love him though
You can have fun and use commas/periods properly ;)

Edit: unless, of course, you have a time limit when it comes to posting...in which case, totally understandable.

Plot twist: His next apology/explanation video is monetised and gets a billion hits, earning him more money than most of us will see in a lifetime.

The man is a legend.
