With the announcement of Diablo 3 on Switch it was only a matter time that people would bring up the possibility of Overwatch on Switch, luckily Blizzard has responded via an interview with Diablo III senior producer Pete Stilwell on Gamespot. He also provided a status on Starcraft 2 on Switch and why it's unlikely to happen.

"Anything is within the realm of possibility. Our team was given the task to work on this. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that's on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch. …Yes, it is feasible."
"The N64 version of StarCraft was cool but you had to change the game quite a bit to make it work properly on console. StarCraft 2 is next level requirements from how much dexterity you need with a mouse and keyboard, so I think that would have been a very difficult port. It would have [to] change the core gameplay."

I personally see Overwatch being announced for Switch within a year or two. It makes sense with the launch of the Switch Online Service next month and Blizzard's relationship with Nintendo returning after nearly 2 decades. As for Starcraft 2, I'm not too bummed about it being unlikely since it would actually be a difficult port. Starcraft 2 has yet to receive a console release and it will probably remain that way.

I see an Announcement at either Gamescom or Blizzcon for OW on switch tbh, they've seen how successful Fortnite and Paladins have been, though I will say unless account merging/progression is a thing for OW, I'm sticking to PS4

I don't think they'll announce it that soon at Gamescom unless the Switch version is actually in development, I see it happening during Blizzcon either next year or the year after.

Remember, Kaplan never said the Switch couldn't handle Overwatch. He said that the team is too busy with matching updates across 3 platforms that adding a 4th just isn't viable at the time. Who knows how things might've changed, but I do believe Switch is more than capable of running Overwatch, at 60fps no less. As for StarCraft 2, you can certainly make it work on Switch. It's got a touch screen, and the Joy-Con can be used as a pointer.

Here's what Overwatch director's Jeff Kaplan said about the possibility of a Switch version back in April 2017

https://www.express.co.uk/entertain...LIST-Blizzard-Overwatch-min-specs-performance

In an exclusive follow-up interview with Express Online, Kaplan said that Blizzard would have to "revisit performance" to make Overwatch run on Nintendo Switch.
"I think the problem is, we've really targeted our min spec in a way that we would have to revisit performance and how to get on that platform," he said.
"And also, it's already challenging right now maintaining three platforms and patching simultaneously, which is something that we've finally been able to achieve."

Kaplan said that he was proud of his team for being able to patch simultaneously, and that a Nintendo Switch port would make that difficult.
"Our first couple of patches would come out on PC first and then later on the consoles," he continued. "And a lot of that is because you're working with Microsoft and Sony, and you want to be compliant to their ecosystems.
"Adding a third ecosystem to that just adds a lot of complexity for us, as well."

Kaplan is, however, a big fan of the Nintendo Switch, and hasn't ruled out a Nintendo port completely.
"But I always like to tell people we're very open-minded about what platforms we could be on.
"Just because we're not on a platform right now, it doesn't mean we won't reconsider it in the future, so we stay aware of all these things."

I could definitely see Overwatch coming.

I imagine playing Statecraft on Joy Cons would be a misserable experience.

Blizzard finally started to see enough of a user base on the Switch they feel can be profitable.

Just give me HS on the Switch. It already has a touchscreen. Just need to add a control scheme with a controller.

I still think they could attempt to gnaw at tencent's pie by putting Heroes of the Storm on the Switch, adapting the game to a control style similar to Arena of Valor wouldn't be hard.

At some point, maybe they could bring Hearthstone, I will download that for my Switch, still need to play Overwatch but seems a great addition to library of the console if happens.

So probably 2019 then - once Switch gets its price drop it might become the to go system for younger gamers so i can see why Blizzard would wanna have their big IP available on Switch.

Top soon, now they want to build the hype for Diablo III.

I put my money on next year shadowdropped at E3.

2017: Rocket League
2018: Fortnite and Paladins
2019: Overwatch

I wouldn't mind also Hearthstone, it seems a relatively easy port and it makes sense considering TES Legends is coming (I wouldn't be surprised in Artifact in the future)

I think it can handle it (alas at a lower fidelity), it's the online infostructure that concerned them the most. It has been demonstrated how the Switch online works so they're more confident about it now.

The problem is price. I don't want to beat the "dead game" horse, but Overwatch was already controversial for being released as a $60 premium title in 2016; releasing it in 2019 on the Switch where its biggest competititor is the free Fortnite would probably be a huge financial risk.

Blizzard needs to re-examine Overwatch's pricing model on all platforms.

Starcraft 2 is pretty understandable, lol. It probably could work with some heavy control compromises like SC64 did, but then you have to ask if anyone actually wants it.

I wouldn't expect WoW anytime soon, especially with it not being controller friendly, and the new expansion. If Switch gets another MMO, I'd bet on the FFXI mobile thing.

That would be my dream port for the Switch. Paladins looks fantastic in handheld mode at 60fps so surely it's just a matter of time.

If cross console progression is a thing it likely won't work with PS4 due to Sony's stance on that stuff with other consoles.

For me cross play and cross progression would be a must if I am going to rebuy overwatch on switch

I think the most important piece of this news is regarding Nintendo's relationship with Third Party Developers in general. For the first time in years we are seeing even Western Third Party Developers are actually interested in putting their titles on Switch. Bethesda, Blizzard, Rockstar, etc... are all putting titles on a Nintendo platform for the first time in years. This shows Nintendo has made significant progress since Switch launched and while they are still a ways away from PS4/X1 I think most would have laughed if you told them prior to Switch launching that these companies would have released games on Switch with a year and a half.

It bodes really well for next gen, assuming Nintendo doesn't screw things up with the Switch successor.

That's pretty good. Never played the game, but I know it's a classic so I will look into it, especially considering the port looks to be solid.

Not sure how well Overwatch will port over to Switch, but Paladins and Fortnite came over pretty well, so maybe Overwatch can scale pretty well, too?
My guess is that they'll opt for a dynamic resolution in both docked and portable mode like Paladins in order to maintain 60FPS.

Warcraft is not coming to consoles and its especially not coming to switch lol. Just because the game is old doesn't mean its easy to run, let alone viable for console play.

It really does and definitely shows they are moving in the right direction. I know some won't agree but it shows clear strides have been made for them to even get Western Third Parties to even take them serious.

Some will point out that PS5/X2 are right around the corner but those will be 4K machines. If Nintendo is able to release a hybrid that can run those games at 1080p then that would be enough for most people considering it would be portable.
