It's incredibly obvious why they're doing this - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is selling like crazy, being the second-best selling game on Switch. New Super Mario Bros. has historically sold ridiculously well on hardware people actually owned. From a business perspective Nintendo would be stupid not to spend the relatively minor fee bringing NSMBU over rather than pour it into a whole new project, and it's not like it's siphoning off team members from other games that are in development.

Four player multiplayer of this made made my sides hurt with laughter. It is some of the most pure, unbridled joy I've ever had.

These constant ports are poor money-grabbing jokes, though.

Man are they really porting this crap instead of the Galaxies or 3D World?

I never understood the sentiment Wii U had no killer app at launch. Yes it did. People just didn't realise it. It's right here. Best 2D Mario ever.

NSMBU + NSLU is one of the best 2D platformer packages ever. I hope any deluxe edition adds new missions to challenge mode plus some kind of online ghost-sharing system.

And isn't that not beautiful?
There's more than just this stage though

It's become that much harder to find good screenshot online since the end of miiverse :/
That's not the point. Yes it looks good, but we have 4 straight 2D Mario games in the same aesthetic AND music. I actually have higher expectations for 2D Mario. Nintendo is a cheap ass with 2D Mario.

Don't you remember how it used to be? Super Mario Bros to Super Mario Bros 2. Then to Super Mario Bros 3 with all new art style, music and gameplay. Then it went to Super Mario World with all new art style, music and gameplay. It was brand new game after game.

Now it's the art style and music. Like seriously the music is the same for 4 straight games. It's Nintendo's premiere 2D series and this is what they've turned too? Cheap cheap cheap

It's mainly down to budgets. Even the largest Nintendo games have minuscule budgets in relative terms to today's games but in terms of Mario it's the 3D games that get all of the budget because they know the 2D games appeal to so many more people and those people are happy with the New / Run artstyle.

Personally I think the current artstyle is fine and think NSMBU is not only one of the most underrated WiiU games but one of the most underrated Nintendo games of all time. It really is fantastic and up there with SMB3 / World for me.

Brilliant. I own a Wii U and have been eying this up for a while, but I'd happily pay more for it in Switch.

I guess this makes 3D Land/World more likely? I'd hope it's both, but with Nintendo I wouldn't be surprised if they're only going to port the Wii U game because the 3DS is still selling

Surely this is explains why Odyssey performed much better than the last two NSMB games + Run?

If a 2D Mario game was made with an ounce of the creativity that went into Galaxy or Odyssey it'd easily repeat the 20+ million performance of the first two NSMB games, which were an answer to 15+ years of pent-up demand for new 2D Mario.

Not interested.

I'm sad about the state of 2D Mario right now. NSMB is tired. Mario Maker 2 is welcome, but its not fresh. When are we going to know how Nintendo plans to move this particular franchise subset forward?

Man, they better make Wario and Waluigi playable. Last time we had Wario playable in a Mario-starring platformer was on the SM64 DS remake. Give us more!

Nooooo. Please not NSMB please. Just port Maker. I don't care if it has no hills. NOthing about NSMB appealed to me except level design. I absolutely hated the music/look of this series and feel it went on too long.

I'll buy it but I'm not happy to.

No. Why are you asking for a port of a game where you make levels? That type of game should get a sequel because all you do is make levels.

They've been cheap with 2D Mario but that doesn't mean the game is ugly at all.
If you want fugly there's NSMB2:phoned in edition.
The music is actually an interesting case, it works well in context and is tied to gameplay.
Now the quality of the composition is something else, I mean not everyone can be Koji Kondo (and if I'm being I think I prefer NSMBU ost to 3D World, what a let down that game was).

the worst part of all Mario games since SMW is how afraid Nintendo is on people missing content.
SMB3 is hugeass game and you can from the start just skip it (and you better believe that the flutes locations were quickly known at the time, I think I didn't see stuffs like beyond World 3 until either SMAS or the 00's).
Now look at current Mario games? they have some hidden paths but they're clearly signposted and they truly expect people to do everything.
The fantastic part of Odyssey at least was how liberating it felt to finally be able to pick and choose most of what you could do.
And frankly the jump from SMB->SMB2 was only big for people in the West, for Japan it was basically like SMB2 was an expansion pack.
And I'll take cheap over nonexistent myself.

They really should update the character models, they didn't seem to change at all between NSMB Wii and U. Better lighting helped but it's night and day between them and Mario 3D World's

Do that and gimme the Mario Run characters (+ let us play as them in single player!) and I may be in. Really loved the challenge mode on the original, would be down for it again in portable mode! Played it mostly in off-TV mode on Wii U as I remember

Maybe it'll come with a left joycon w/ dpad

Can't see myself caring if it doesn't. I will not 2D platform with face buttons ever again after Mania.

Man, getting so excited about paying 60.00 for a 6 year old port plus getting upset at anyone else who feels it is too expensive. I will never understand this mindset. I'm gonna get a Switch sometime soon, but I am definitely not looking forward to the outrageous software prices.

I'm sure a lot of Switch owners like myself didn't get to experience the hot mess that was the Wii U, so this is a good thing.

I really want to try 3d world which I'm sure they have lined up for next year.
