A degree in journalism isn't going to make somebody a great writer. Nor will it stop somebody from making a terrible decision.

Some of the best writers, musicians, artists, etc. etc. etc. of all time have zero formal education. It's silly to place blame on his education for any of this.

There has to be something else going on inside his head. No normal person would be ok in doing this.

we don´t know him and even then i would argue you can´t look in someones head what he was thinking...could have been just his personality or sniffing coke and thinking he has everything in full control, could be just not giving a damn about anything or maybe he is just lazy. in short: we don´t know why he´s done that

i mean there are even medical doctors and university professors out there you came to their job with plagiarizing because back then, there wasn´t such controls as today

what is a little confusing is this tweet with the "if you steal from one it´s plagiarizing, when you steal from many it is research" line..that is surely strange when you exactly do this...

If it's infinite and free to give, what is it's value? It's not like if we're all empathetic enough Filip's life will suddenly have value and he'll get off that ledge your imagination has put him on.

Yes, I can imagine hypothetical scenarios where I'd feel desperate enough to plagiarize something, and I can imagine that if I got caught for doing it and the internet was dragging me for it I'd probably feel like shit.

My response, though (and I feel this would be most rational people's response), would be to either own up to my error and explain the circumstances that led me to it, or to just disappear and start a new life somewhere else because I didn't want to face the music. In either case, I'd imagine interest would die down fairly quickly.

Instead, Filip denied doing it, lashed out, and goaded people into continuing to look into him. This showed a complete lack of introspection or responsibility on his part, was obviously counter-productive.

It went from "that guy made a mistake" to "that guy has a history of shitty behaviour and is being a shit about it", which is much harder to empathize with, unless you A) also have a history of shitty behaviour and being a shit about it, or B) like to imagine that you're better than random people on the internet because you pay lip service to being above saying mean things that probably won't have an affect on things either way.
You're confusing a call for empathy with a call to ignore/forget/move on from what he did. The case against him can be prosecuted without apathy for him.

I've gone through the first, like, 20 pages seeing if this was posted yesterday night, but we're all aware of this tweet now, right?

I had a hard time finding this because I didn't realize people were having so much fun the first 44 pages of this thread lol

Has this been posted? I know it's kinda too late at this point after ALL the other allegations/proof but still relevant. Man I really hope the people he copied from finds some sort of compensation/justice (and this is why I was hoping for a lawsuit initially) because he was making money from stolen work!

But to what extent is enough enough? 10 examples? 20?

What is the responsibility of the individual doing the digging to stop and think "well I have the evidence to support my thesis, anymore would just do More harm to this individual than help my case...which is already sound"

Does empathy play any role whatsoever?
Everyone he's ever plagiarized deserves to know.

Also, people aren't digging for the sole purpose of embarrassing him.

At this point, demanding empathy for a someone who has committed numerous acts of plagiarism and shown no remorse over it is a pretty clear sign that you are incapable of taking out the trash.

I know the two reviews have been posted, I hadn't seen the video before which makes it far more convenient and blatant to see. That's incredibly Shameless, it's barely changed in most cases in the structure is almost exactly the same. I know that's been true for almost every instance uncovered so far, but it's still shocking to see it each time.

This is completely because of hindsight, but listening to him speak now very much sounds like he's reading a script, which is probably true but I mean in the sense of a script that was written for him, which is also true, because it doesn't sound like the Natural Way someone would talk. It sounds like an amalgamation of someone else's words with someone's own voice attempting to be superimposed over it. In short, it sounds fake to even hear.

As much as there is. For one, the people who he potentially plagiarized deserve to know. For two, this is one of the first major ethics issues the industry is actually facing when they are often criticized for for no reason, so they best not fuck it up now otherwise people would actually have something to point too

Holy crap, I hadn't seen that one before but it's insane. Literally word for word in many spots. Absolutely shameless.

?? That's a pretty bold statement to make against a decently large number of people there, bud.

What? How did I miss that?
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2005/06/06/ign-babes-interview-jessica-chobot

Gentlemen, she exists. A woman who loves to play videogames, cares about the industry, has opinions on everything, and isn't afraid to share them. A woman who loves to watch anime, reads manga regularly and takes yearly trips to Japan.

Did I mention that she's absolutely gorgeous? This is a woman who has no problem with booth babes, likes her female videogame characters hot and scantily-clad, designs T-shirts on the side, and has dreams of producing her own manga.

This is a woman who took a photo of herself licking a PSP in a very suggestive manner, who writes an online videogame column, and couldn't wait to attend E3. She plays WoW and Silent Hill and Final Fantasy. She knows what Guild Wars is, and she has an account. She owns all the systems.

This woman is the holy grail, the dream girl of all gamers and otaku. Hell, the dream girl of 90% of the men who walk this planet.

It took me 31 years to find her, but much like Sean Connery in The Last Crusade, now I know she exists and I can die in peace. Her name is Jessica Chobot, or Hatsumi, if you go by gamer handles. She lives in Detroit, travels everywhere, and just attended her first E3.

We couldn't let an opportunity to interview her slide by, and once we started talking to her, we couldn't stop. Therefore, we'll post this interview in two pieces. Look for Part Two, coming soon. Until then, start saving for that engagement ring, because this is the woman you're going to want to marry.

You guys all bring up a good point (those that are okay with the digging). It's just hard not to feel bad for the guy even when you realize how shitty he has been. He brought it upon himself and really magnified the issue when he doubled down so I understand the stance.

Look, I get what he did is wrong. But this witch hunt is downright nasty. This is what drives people to suicide.

I'm not taking glee in this. It's just interesting. This is Catch Me If You Can Lite. And then there's the manipulation shit that came up earlier today.

I can tell you've never had your work plagiarized. Every time we find a new instance of something Filip plagiarized, the original author finally gets his credit. You should empathize with them, not the guy who stole their work, and so you should want every instance to be found.

A witch hunt implies there is no witch. We found a witch, and then the witch said 'well, I sort of apologize but not really. oh, and I double dare you to find more instances of plagiarism'. And then the internet did it's thing.

Everyone deserves to die. Death segregates no one. It is the only thing fair in this universe.

But what is not fair is plagiarizing. Like how Filip plagiarize a game called Dead Cells.

Edit: This post was intended for humor. If it was perceived as anything more sinister then I sincerely apologize.

I can't believe IGN hasn't taken down their "Babes" content. Frankly, it's shocking they even did that.

Maybe while they're sorting out their house for plagiarism, it would be a good time to start a new thread to call them to task for the blatant sexist content still on their website.

Not shocking. That's what people were into during that time. Own it.

But yeah, should've lost that during the last site update.

Why are you saying this on a resetera forum instead of on twitter where people are talking to him more directly?

I'd imagine Filip is only going to places on the Internet he can control and filter anything negative like he has done for the past week.
