The OP is so full of shit.

Did a comparison between the regular BD and the UHD, and the UHD wins easily. There is definitely an increase in depth of the image and detail, and the HDR is pretty amazing as well. The regular BD is great for what it is but is quite flat looking by comparison. Either the OP has improper calibration settings or that $20,000 projection setup isn't as great as it should be.

The sound quality certainly leaves more to be desired, but at least it's better than Ragnarok or Black Panther's audio.

I'm surprised at how people simply can't believe that OP has a 20k home theater setup. There are tons of enthusiasts like this out there, just go to AVS Forums. I'd rather spend 20k on a home theater setup than a car like many people do. We are on a gaming forum after all.

I've got the following setup:

- Samsung Q6 65" TV
- Denon AVRX 1500 H Receiver
- REL T7i Subwoofer
- Bowers & Wilkins HTM62S2 Center Channel
- Bowers & Wilkins 686S2 Surround Speakers
- Bowers & Wilkins 684S2 Front Speakers

And I'd agree to an extent.

The 4K / HDR looked rather nice and had significantly more detail than when I saw it in theaters on a standard movie theater screen.

However, the low frequency end of the audio mix was a little lackluster, and while the music and dialogue was balanced well there wasn't a whole lot of directional audio compared to some of the better mixes in recent memory, like Rogue One.

I might pick up Ready Player One even though I thought the movie was Average just to see how it looks / sounds in comparison.

Heck I felt my Blue Planet II 4K Blu Rays had better mixing than Infinity War, sadly.

I haven't seen the home video transfer of IW yet, but a lot of OLED owners in this thread are speaking positively of it. While a bad transfer is certainly possible (it is from Disney after all), it could also be that your video system just isn't flattering to a mediocre transfer. I know some displays that can look look great with reference material, but if you watch something that, while not bad, is less than perfect then it can look a bit crappy. Since you're using a projector, the inherent limitations with peak brightness are going to necessitate aggressive tone mapping. This in combination with the less than perfect black of most projection displays could be causing issues. Does your setup allow for you to select from different tone mapping options? Have you compared it to an SDR version by either disabling HDR or checking the regular Blu-ray? Has your projector been calibrated by a professional?

This thread has me wondering if I should just go with the standard bluray and skip the UHD version. If it's not that much better then I don't know if it's worth the premium over regular HD.

This kind of home theatre set up isn't that uncommon. Most people build their setup over years. It's not difficult to start reaching these numbers if you have a 4K projector, expensive floorstanders etc.

Of course you can also build a good 4K Dolby Atmos 9.1 setup for around $5-10k too. At a certain point the returns vastly diminish.

The cost difference is negligible though. You might as well get the UHD which comes with a BR anyway.

Target has 10% cartwheel on this plus 5% redcard thru tomorrow. Had my daughter grab it with her discount.

Are Dolby Cinema theaters (AMC) representative of HDR? They advertise 1,000,000:1 contrast and twice the brightness of regular theaters. I've seen Solo and Mission Impossible Fallout and it didn't look noticeably better than movies do at home on my non-HDR projector.

I spent $1000 on my tv, $400 on a receiver, $500 on 5.1 Pioneer speakers, then spent $500 to upgrade my subwoofer and $400 to upgrade my front left and right speakers.

That's $3500 all told, for a 60" TV. My system sound pretty awesome, though it could definitely use a 4K projector. How much do those run for?

That is true 4K (not e-shifting) and capable of close to HDR peak brightness? Not less than $5K. To get nit levels where they are in HDR specifications? Not less than $10K.

Is it true that the upcoming 3D release in the UK won't feature the IMAX ratio? As those discs always have? That's bullshit.

I think the uhd Avengers1 looks better than uhd infinity war. The HDR in Avengers1 looks pretty damn good for an older movie.

It's looking like all of the 3D versions don't have the IMAX aspect ratio, from screenshots I've seen and talk from people that already have their copies on the forums on blu-ray.com.

The 3D is apparently still very good but some people are a little annoyed it's not the IMAX version, like the other movies had.

There is talk about maybe an IMAX version coming later but it's all rumours and speculation at the moment, I'd double dip if true though.

It's noticeably better IMO. The regular BD is good, but seems rather flat compared to the UHD. The HDR and better details add that extra oomph to the picture.

Sooo, $10k for something that looks like a good HDR TV, $5k if i just want a big sharp image that doesn't shame my ancestors if I have guests.

hmm, no, $2k for a projector is my ceiling.

I have a 1080p projector still mounted in my basement which I haven't used since I got my 4K TV. Until projectors can offer reasonable prices for high quality HDR and 4K images I'll stick with my TV.

At some point there will be a breakthrough in brightness of some kind, where even sub-$2k projectors will have mad nits and blacks. I'll buy. Probably an 8K projector by then.

You have to understand that this is still early and the price hasn't come down yet to those levels. The fact that a true 4K projector for $5k announced this year was a huge step forward considering the price of entry was like $10k prior to that. It's just like how early 4K TVs were high, and then the first HDR sets were high, and in fact HDR is still a premium cost for the most part and the HDR formats haven't settled down yet either with HDR10+ still around the corner.

Very disappointing it's only 2K but I still bought it. Mad Max was 2K as well and it showed.

I'm pretty disappointed there was no IMAX version release, but not going to double dip if they release one later.

The CGI is especially noticeable at home in 4K in how bad it can be sometimes, especially Banner in the Hulkbuster suit with its head open.

True but all the scenes with Thanos are spectacular. Seriously they nailed the motion capture into an actual CGI character. In particular in the opening scene on the Asgardian ship.

4K projectors are still very very new in terms of being a consumer product. In 2-3 years there will definitely be 4K HDR projectors that fit the bill for under $2k.

Tom Holland is a gift from on high.

He's ok.

If I was 15 I would probably wet my basement for him, in the same way I irrationally still think of Jamie Bell, despite him not doing anything of note outside of what I felt when he did Billy Elliot.

I think Tom Holland did Billy Elliot at some point in his life, on broadway. I saw Billy Elliot in New York once, and it was the most depressing live-action interpretation of an original film-script I've ever seen. I think I would have prefered if it was straight up homophobic instead.

In any case, carry on. Snap, snap, scrotum face, half of your spandex-boys momentarily "die".

Cheers, love (enjoy what you enjoy).

Yea. My projector isn't a true 4k but the e-shift variety that looks better than 1080p Still looks amazing for good 4k material.

True 4k projector is not in the cards. I'm rainbow sensitive so I have to stick to Los or LCD

Are your light levels okay?

Is your sound system really calibrated or did you just setup out of the box? How do you know its really calibrated? Did you do proper equalization on it with an RTA and everything?

Could explain some of it. Projectors are neat but they aren't great if gunk gets on the lens, or your never change the lamp.

Also it looks like it isn't true 4K projector as you just posted... and isn't capable of HDR?

Ive seen the 4k on my TV along with HDR and it looks pretty great to me.

Also do you own a high end 4k player like the Oppo? That is also important.

Thanos is fine, but he's not exactly enhanced by the presentation. The other stuff is worse looking, or more apparent.

Is there some kind of content deal that is keeping this from being available on Prime Video? Went to watch it last night, and was disappointed that it wasn't up on Amazon.

Edit: I'm talking about the 4k version, just to be clear.

Brother, you are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I personally love the movie and my criticism about the washed out flat look and boring audio doesn't take away from the fact that I really enjoyed the movie itself.

It should have had the imax ratio and audio with better dynamic range. Given the scope of this film it is expected.

B/C these movies are 2K CGI, I quit buying the 4K discs and just buy the Vudu download codes for $8-$13 off eBay. I paid $12.50 for IW. Looks decent in Dolby Vision from Vudu on my 65" OLED. These are never going to be the best looking movies.

Why should it have IMAX when it wasn't the original aspect ratio??

Having seen 4k UHD HDR on OLED, I have to say that Dolby Cinema is *not* representative of the capabilities of true HDR for two reasons: the blacks levels are not as good as the best OLEDs and subpar peak brightness. Having said that, Dolby Cinema looks appreciably better than SDR theater projection, in my opinion.
