Bloodborne 2 confirmed

You do not do that to me!

Edit: very curious as to what Project Mephisto can be.
And straight to nomination too.

Project Mephisto? I doubt it's an RPG, but I can damn well hope. C'mon, Sony. Gimme something to look forward to that isn't just another open world.

Assassin's Creed is officially a Role Playing Game now?
I guess when it wasn't able to snag a "Best Action Game" nominee it is yeah. Also probably going with the, "anything with RPG elements is an RPG" definition that has kind of become the standard. Granted I haven't played the last few so maybe this one has really layered on the RPG mechanics.

Yes. Maybe people will stop being dumb with the whole "not an RPG!" nonsense now when they label games.
If Assassin's Creed is an RPG, the larger questions then become:

Why isn't Spider Man an RPG?
Why isn't Metro Exodus an RPG?
Why isn't Sekiro an RPG?

Why does a "traditional" RPG like Divinity have to compete against a $100M blockbuster AAA title whose primary focus is open world and twitchy-combat?
Can't there be a separate category to honor games with a more traditional RPG focus?

Because those aren't RPGs. On the other hand, Assassin's Creed is now leaning far more heavily into that direction with the latest installments.
Of course, it's still an action RPG rather than a pure RPG.

Uh oh, is the DMC V demo for Gamescom no good? The way I see it, I expect Metro for PC award and DMC5 in action games instead.

Isn't Devil May Cry at Gamescom? Not even a nominee for best action game? Oh well

Have you played Origins? AC hasn't been an RPG in the past but with Origins it definitely became an action-RPG of the same kind of The Witcher 3. And we already know Odyssey will push even further on that front. I don't know about the games you mentioned, I didn't play them yet so who knows, maybe some of them can be defined an (action)RPG too.

I agree on the concept, but you could say the same of TW3 or BotW too. These awards, on the other side, are very generic and it would be quite weird to differentiate between genres like old school RPGs, JRPGs, action-RPGs, turn-based RPGs and so on, or even Sim Racers, Arcade Racers, Futuristic Racers, Rally Racers and Kart Racers.

It has been stated already but I have a question?

What the fuck is Project Mephisto? I thought I missed an announcement or something and did my googles and nothing came up.

Some secret unannounced PS4 game is already nominated for best at the show? That's pretty hype, actually.

Anyone can share us some info about Project Mephisto? I tried Google and YouTube and nothing so far.

Note that the LEGO game is made by TT Games, a British games developer. As Gamescom is a European institution, it makes sense that they would nominate someone within the region for making an exceptional Switch game.

I don't like that it mentions the publisher of the game rather than the studio that developed it.

I've watched videos of Odyssey -- guess I don't really get how it turns into an RPG because there's an XP/Equipment/Leveling system. Is God of War or Mordor an RPG now as well? Where is the distinction (if any) between an open-world adventure with progression systems and an RPG?

God of War would've been much better without the shallow rpg elements.

Lol.. sigh.. I dunno. Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles (a man who appeared in Demons Souls) and is defined as "an evil spirit to whom Faust, in the German legend, sold his soul." Per a quick google.

The speculation is fun, but don't get hyped.
...or do you?
