It's probably a PSVR gameMephisto? Uh oh, looks like Sony's big new JRPG IP just leaked.

I want it to win that one. As huge as smash is gonna be it's gotta be the big meaty story game that takes the award!
Bloodborne and the Mephisto empire? Like the digital comic!?
Bloodborne 2 confirmed
I guess when it wasn't able to snag a "Best Action Game" nominee it is yeah. Also probably going with the, "anything with RPG elements is an RPG" definition that has kind of become the standard. Granted I haven't played the last few so maybe this one has really layered on the RPG mechanics.
Bloodborne 2 baby... I hope :')
What game is? Any ideias?
There's nothing indicating this's from Sony or exclusive so better keep expectations in check.Project Mephisto? I doubt it's an RPG, but I can damn well hope. C'mon, Sony. Gimme something to look forward to that isn't just another open world.
If Assassin's Creed is an RPG, the larger questions then become:Yes. Maybe people will stop being dumb with the whole "not an RPG!" nonsense now when they label games.
DMC5 isn't even on this list. This list also confirms what I feared. Capcom is skipping RE2 on Gamescom to fully focus on DMC5.
But has confiirmed world premiere demo showing. You really think best of E3 game - RE2 - would be absent here if it was there in any meaningful way? It'll be playable at MS both on like two-three consoles and that's it.
If Assassin's Creed is an RPG, the larger questions then become:
Why isn't Spider Man an RPG?
Why isn't Metro Exodus an RPG?
Why isn't Sekiro an RPG?
Why does a "traditional" RPG like Divinity have to compete against a $100M blockbuster AAA title whose primary focus is open world and twitchy-combat?
Can't there be a separate category to honor games with a more traditional RPG focus?
Here they are:
Best Simulation Game
- Anno 1800 (Ubisoft)
- F1 2018 (Koch Media/Codemasters)
- Farming Simulator 19 (astragon Entertainment)
More like the "jury" didn't see it.

It's possible this is the origin of Project Mephisto.

I agree on the concept, but you could say the same of TW3 or BotW too. These awards, on the other side, are very generic and it would be quite weird to differentiate between genres like old school RPGs, JRPGs, action-RPGs, turn-based RPGs and so on, or even Sim Racers, Arcade Racers, Futuristic Racers, Rally Racers and Kart Racers. Why does a "traditional" RPG like Divinity have to compete against a $100M blockbuster AAA title whose primary focus is open world and twitchy-combat?

To the chagrin of long time fans... unfortunately yes.
Hmm...what could this be...
I've watched videos of Odyssey -- guess I don't really get how it turns into an RPG because there's an XP/Equipment/Leveling system. Is God of War or Mordor an RPG now as well? Where is the distinction (if any) between an open-world adventure with progression systems and an RPG?Have you played Origins? AC hasn't been an RPG in the past but with Origins it definitely became an action-RPG of the same kind of The Witcher 3. And we already know Odyssey will push even further on that front.
God of War would've been much better without the shallow rpg elements.I've watched videos of Odyssey -- guess I don't really get how it turns into an RPG because there's an XP/Equipment/Leveling system. Lol.. sigh.. I dunno. Mephisto is short for Mephistopheles (a man who appeared in Demons Souls) and is defined as "an evil spirit to whom Faust, in the German legend, sold his soul." Per a quick google.
You do not do that to me!
Edit: very curious as to what Project Mephisto can be.
And straight to nomination too.
