To ensure that Shadow of the Tomb Raider looked crisp and amazingly polished on Xbox One X, we have worked incredibly hard to fully support HDR mode. We've revamped the entire pipeline to be HDR from the get-go: realistic lights intensity calibration, HDR textures and global illumination energy conservation.

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we offer two modes for players: High Resolution and High Framerate mode. With the GPU power of the Xbox One X, we were able to get 4K at a constant 30 FPS and with the CPU boost, we are targeting 60 FPS with full HD (1080p) in High Framerate mode.

We've been able to improve the quality of certain algorithms on the Xbox One X like stochastic screen-space reflections and atmospheric effects. With the extra memory, we have increased the shadow maps and texture resolution to enhance the visual quality.

Audio-wise, we are fully supporting Dolby Atmos to create real 3D audio immersion.

I assume that PS4 Pro will also support these options but probably differences in the resolutions .

edit: Meant SE Montreal in thread title.

I think you mean Eidos Montreal. SE Montreal is a different studio altogether (they made the GO games IIRC).

Expecting the same options on PS4 Pro but what I care about the most is HDR and hoping that it's implemented correctly. For me personally, HDR is the game changer.

Pro should have the same options but they made it seem some visual improvements are for X only (at least higher resolution textures and shadow maps)

Already had the game pre ordered, but it's nice to get proper support for X

Wonder if that means native 4k. Either way I will be playing it in 30fps because I just can't ignore 4K anymore plus the extra bells and whistles.

I just finished Rise of the Tomb Raider on the PS4 Pro and it was a shame that it didn't support HDR. The 4K resolution looked fantastic, and the lighting was still really well handled. HDR would have been stunning.

It was embarrassing that Microsoft moneyhatted the timed exclusive (and likely the HDR functionality). Hopefully, the publisher has moved beyond that this time around, but this focus on the Xbox tech has me concerned.

Okay, that's all fine and good, but what about PC and PS4? Neither of those platforms had HDR support with Rise. The game is out in a month, they need to answer this. If HDR support ends up being Xbox exclusive again...

Rise didn't get HDR on the pro. (Not sure it a late patch fix this?)

not necessarily because the base PS4 supports HDR as well. only reason I mention it is because ROTTR never got HDR support on PS4

PS4 and PC never got HDR in Rise. Really fishy considering how the game started out as Xbox exclusive.

You guys are right, sorry! It would be kind of a letdown if this doesn't have HDR support then.

Beautiful Province of Quebec.
Crossed fingers for a good HDR implementation...when done well, like in Homefront,it really is a game changer, more then just 4K...I never tried bringing the resolution down to 1080p on my 900e or X but I might give it a go with this one to see how the 60fps looks like...hopefully we can bring it down to 1080p within the ingame menu...?

HDR has nothing to do with timed exclusivity.

Yeah, you change these settings in the game, not on the TV or console.

Is it your belief that Microsoft did not pay to have HDR be Xbox exclusive? HDR is supported on only a subset of Xbox consoles while being universally supported on PS4, and the game only has HDR on Microsoft's platform. It seems likely that some sort of deal was made, either explicitly or implicitly.

It is not my belief. It is just a fact. Rise was also not HDR on the Xbox One S. Many other games are HDR on the S.
Most likely, it had to do with power inferiority.

I don't know why the PS4 and PC versions of RotTR didn't get HDR, but I can promise you power had nothing to do with it.

EDIT: The worst part about the PC not getting it was it was said to be coming to PC way back in 2016, and even shown off in public.

EDIT EDIT: Actually the worst part is no one in the press even asking why. I just want to know.

I think they probably just focused on the X and didn't bother with any other version. (The game was old too)

If MS really fought for HDR "hypothetically" Rise would would have also been HDR on the S.

I remember reading that way back when and getting hyped that HDR was coming to games.
Then it didn't even come to the platform they were hyping it up for.

Also no the reason it didn't come to the S was not about power.

Isn't and wasn't HDR for PC a bit of a disaster still?

It was rough when RotTR hit PC, yeah. It's gotten a lot better since, but hyping people like me up and just letting it fade away wasn't cool.

Oh, I completely agree. They should have at least came out and said something like "due to the current nature of HDR on PC, we have to shelve the feature until our next title" or something. Hopefully it's done well with Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PC.

Shouldn't you have to back up your moneyhat claim too?
Multiple titles have had HDR support on Xbox but no other platforms. While there's no proof of moneyhating, the situation is nonetheless suspect.

With this title the devs are also only mentioning HDR in regards to Xbox, even if it is on all platforms that act alone is questionable.

We want answers.

I doubt missing HDR in some titles is anything but timing. Meaning that the One X was the last console released, so developers had a reason to go back and revisit these titles and then added a little something extra while they had the chance to optimize for the X.

It's no different in my mind than situations like ME: Andromeda or Watch Dogs 2. Those titles received Pro support because the Pro was the console out at the time and they simply didn't feel like going back a year later and doing the same thing with the X. Nothing to do with marketing or the hatting of certain monies. Developers just decided they had moved on from these titles and didn't want to re-allocate a few extra people to go back to them and do more work.

Hell yeah, that's the support I want to see for an enhanced console.

Now just confirm full HDR support for PC and I'll be content.

So no 3 modes like before? Before they 3 modes like on PS4 Pro with 1080p60FPS/ 4K chekcerboad with maxed out graphics, and Native 4K with medium settings. Does that mean the 4K mode has the maxed out graphics?
Does that imply they improved their optimisations on bioth consoles so the PS4 Pro will have a 4K checkerbaod mdoe with the enhanced graphics like the second mode in the ROTR?
I hope they will have HDR on all versions too.

So it's pure conjecture...right on.
