I am not kidding you, it has one of the best story lines in a game that I have played in a very long time. Even all the side quests have good little stories to them.

Why should we? We aren't SEGA! You say people can't stop praising, you expect us to do the opposite? Go buy it or else I'll send the dragon of dojima to teach you a lesson

People will try to sell you on the silly goofy shit. Which are a fun diversion, but not the main draw for me.

What's most compelling is it has well developed characters and a great and interesting main storyline. If you like crime stories, it's a must play.

Yes, it has an incredibly well written, directed and acted crime story that's very satisfying and intriguing. The characters are great. And the combat is pretty cool, and the game really sells the mise en scene of living in Tokyo back in the day.

The writing is really good, and manages to juggle hyper masculine gangster fights, with soap opera drama, and also with really absurd humor.
It uses dissonance rather than accidentally creating it, and trying to ignore it.

Second, the game is a good cross-cultural experience if you're not of Japanese origin/don't live in Japan. 0 is a period piece of the late 80's "boom economy", and does a good job giving you the feel of that era.

Also, the beat-em-up gameplay is solid, has a good upgrade tree, and different styles to try out. It doesn't get old.

Lastly, if you're the person who likes the amount of content in modern open world games, this game manages to do so without the bloat or copy&paste missions, or making traversal take forever.
The environments are tight and thoughtfully designed, side missions are even well written and interesting, and the mini games are well fleshed out. There's even full Sega arcade games.

So basically, the game is good, and the story is good.

If you like overly dramatic soap operas, plot twists at every corner, goofy characters, and have always dreamed of running a cabaret club, get it. I don't say any of this in a negative manner, either; it's ridiculous and fantastic.

It has an incredible plot with interesting characters, great action set pieces and fun combat. With some hillarious and worthwhile side quests, tons of content, and minigames out the ass. Bosses are superb too.

The first hours a bit weird since they cheap out on the high quality cutscenes for some odd reason, but after that its smooth sailing.

Well, it's one of the best in the business when it comes to story. Has the funniest side quests ever and some dark, deep quest as well. Tons of funny and challenging mini-games, mastercrafted OST, etc.

You wanna miss all of those things? Good luck.

Excellent style, wonderfully engrossing story, great characters who you'll love/wanna kick the shite out if as appropriate, lots of content that you can go through as you please. It's a real achievement honestly.

Cat fights are shit though. My only complaint.

It's only one of the best video game series on the market.

It's part tourism simulator, part mini game collection, part action JRPG, and part mafia soap opera. It all combines into one of the best and deepest gameplay experiences you can buy today.

I'm not sure what to say since any little quip about it would feel insufficient.

It's seriously amazing man. The game deserves your time. Give it a whirl and enjoy.

I started playing this last week I'm a total newbie to the series.

The game is very story intensive and got good gameplay.
Seriously this game is an evolved version on River City Ransom (Kunio Kun)

The side quest design is ideal for the kind of game Yakuza 0 is. There's a bunch of stuff to do and it's generally on the way to wherever you're headed anyway - not to mention, nearly every side quest is fun, short and sweet. The game is hilarious, honestly. Any skepticism I had was dashed after seeing the "Real Yakuza use a gamepad" splash screen for the first time. Great PC port, as well. This game is the total package.

Because its rad!

And while yes, there is a ton of goofy stuff, the storyline (especially with Majima) is absolutely outstanding. Much stronger character development than...well...any other popular game so far. (This inclused stuff like Uncharted, TloU, and all that jazz).

Because its a game where you can go from learning more about the deep and intense plot to take over the business and real estate world to throwing bikes onto thugs to playing Outrun in a Sega arcade.

All within half an hour of each other.

  • Extremely fun combat system. The best modern 3D brawler/beat em up I have played. Flashy cinematic moves using various environment objects and an incredible OST make for captivating fights.
  • Thrilling story. It takes a bit to get going, but essentially you're a Yakuza (Japanese mafia) member framed for a murder. This starts a chain of events that will have you on the run from the Yakuza and seeking help from strange allies.
  • Massive variety of minigames, from pool, darts, casino games, bowling, real estate management, karaoke, dancing, baseball, and much more. All of the minigames are rewarding and very fleshed out.
  • Absurd sidequests that are as interesting as they are hilarious.
For me the combat is the best part. It is really damn fun to play.

Here's a quick spoiler free video:

Also you should avoid this game if you dislike these things: reading subtitles, long cutscenes, reading a lot. The game has long cinematic cutscenes and there is no English dub (the JP voice acting is extremely high quality) and so you have to read the subtitles and there's a lot of conversations to read as well.

My favorite long fight in the game.

Yakuza is hard to sell because it's hard to explain, sort of like Persona in a way. It's a game that feels a bit like a JRPG in regards to its hub "Kamurocho". It isn't strictly speaking open world, but it's not a linear game corridor game either. Its combat is based around classic beat 'em ups and there's a lot of depth to the many skills you can perform on enemies, using the environment, weapons or just your fists. The stories in the games are very dramatic, fun, and the characters are incredibly engaging but the selling point to me in Yakuza. Is to beat up street thugs in the most over-the-top way possible.

I'm playing it after getting it on sale earlier in the year on PS4 so can't speak for the Oc version.

It's a breath of fresh air for me.

It's the diametric opposite to open world sandbox 'you can disrupt the world but everything rubber bands back in seconds' stuff. I actually dislike the 3D GTAs for this and other reasons, especially most other open worlds. They just bore me.

This game however doesn't care you're in it and actively pushes against you. You're able to influence it and make lasting changes all the same.

The plot and subplots are also great, I'm not finished yet. Managed to keep a lot of spoilers at bay, try and do the same. For example, the chicken seems like too much busy work. No I will give context to that sentence.

I will say combat is a bit weird and upgrades aren't properly explained even when you are swimming in enough cash to afford them there's still too many choices. Also the larger mini-games open too late for me, I'm not at a lull in the main story anymore and don't see the need to go back to them.

Also try and clear your schedule, I snoozed through the first tutorial-like sequences and wasn't hooked straight away. Then I hammered it and gave other games a break while I focused completely on this.

Prepare for a lot of reading too.

This is what I came here to say, every part you mentioned here is something I appreciate so much about this game, especially its use of dissonance. It does have flaws, even some genuinely problematic ones outside of structure or gameplay, but it is still a worthwhile experience for those that wouldn't be too put off by that.
