I know of him only from stage appearances at E3, most famously that time at Microsoft's show when the sound cut out and he stood around awkwardly for what felt like an eternity.

I'll really miss him.

He won't be missed on stage. Dude made me audibly groan every time.

Is it possible to groan silently?

Don't let the door hit you on your way out.now someone please turn them back into a game company rather and not a slot machine. They made so much money that he couldn't be called a failure by anyone with any holding in the company that's for sure but in terms of the industry as a whole they led the way for so many bad practices under this dude.

They're success, true. But the gamers aren't happy with them. If they don't change their direction, their success won't last long. Especially that today people are more aware of things.

Got any proof to back that up? Because the major third party publishers have been killing it over the last 3-5 years.

Not much to say, really. He certainly made a lot of money and he probably wasn't the only one responsible for EA's problem. I definitely won't miss his dull tone at E3.

People have been saying this about EA for a decade. They're fine, especially as long as their sports games, Battlefront, and star wars sell well. Spoiler alert, they will.

How do they bounce back when they make shit ton of money and stock is at all time high?
Yea you're right I think he may be using the wrong wording, they definitely are more successful than ever and need do not need to "bounce back" but I think what he may be talking about specifically is like in terms of IP. Besides the sports franchises almost every other IP they own I can think of off the top of my head has been tarnished. Remember they don't own star wars and anthem is still new and untested. Their self owned IP has not exactly been handled well under this guy and that's what got them to where they are in the first place. Fans are unhappy investors are ecstatic.

Probably the most businessman looking dude I've seen on EA's stage.
Andrew Wilson is more of a salesman.

Having done it for 20 years, he might be sick of this shit. Wonder if he'll just straight up retire from the industry and start brewing beer.

Yes, but if he stayed he'd have 80+ million

That's two 40+ millions right there

That's not how this works. He was awarded 20 million in bonus money paid in equity. He took in like, 48 million last year, 46 of which was in equity, 2 million in cash. If he decided he wanted to stay on long term, he wouldn't have received that 20 million in equity again. Don't get me wrong, it's a serious amount of money either way but he must really want out to back away from the sort of compensation he would receive going forward.

I read that whole thing in Wilsons voice.

Assuming 3 months notice, it sounds like he's going straight into something else.
That's a pretty short no-compete... given his level.

This is the highest-ranking executive that would get pulled into conversations about Mass Effect, if I remember correctly.
And I didn't like his answers before Andromeda launched.

Then he played a key role in changing the Star Wars single-player game from Amy Hennig into...whatever the multiplayer Games As A Service hell it is going to be now.

Yeah, he made that company some money. But he crushed a lot of my good will.

Hopefully they maintain the EA Originals program. Wasn't it essentially his baby?

My initial gut reaction would be that he's moving to Google.

I had a similar first thought. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him joining one of the big players like Google, Amazon, Apple et cetera if one of them wants to make a stronger push in the gaming market.

The reason for him leaving EA could be either personal (like moving back to sweden or doing something else) or going bigger.

Doesn't the saying go that if the employee leaves a statement it means they quit but if their company makes it for them it means they got fired.
