Just imagine Skull Kid's FS starting with this same Zelda-styled textbox before the mask detaches from him and goes full Majora's Wrath <3

About the game not having trophies:
As I said, it could be something related to Spirits mode. Instead of having boring, static trophies since Melee era, they could've upgraded this feature to have hologram-like MOVING trophies instead, that has some sort of looping idle animation or some extra animation triggered by button presses, like the Pokedex in recent Pokemon games.

Maybe it could be linked to some sort of side game like Kid Icarus Uprising had thatAR Card Battle gimmick.

Played some Smash Wii U for the first time in years yesterday and had forgotten how much single player content that game has.
You have a very replayable Classic mode with random opponents and you can even use gold to increase difficulty and rewards. It might be a bit shorter than regular classic modes but it's infinitely more replayable.
You have all stars mode where you have to defeat every non mii fighter in the game.
You have events mode where you have to complete specific scenarios with special conditions.
You have Crazy Orders and Master Orders where you do endless amount of missions for rewards.
And then you have the trophy gathering mode and the training modes.
The 3DS version also has a lot of great single player content of it's own too like Smash Run, and it's own different version of classic mode.

I just really really hope they go all out on the single player portion of Smash ultimate too.
I'm a little worried that they're doing a story mode and that's it, leaving single player very bare bones compared to previous entries like so many other recent Nintendo games (Splatoon, Arms, Mario Tennis).
Classic Mode is already a step down (imo) since it's now just a set path of opponents pr character.
I know for the more competitive minded folks this doesn't matter at all but for me it's a big part of smash, I've always loved the amount of content in the games.
I'm happy about the Classic Mode myself, it is actually more like what its name implies, the Smash 4 Classic Mode on Wii U was nothing like Classic Mode.

He technically said "Who told you there are trophies in this game?"

This can be read as a tongue in cheek comment. It's a feature that's obviously in the game but not yet revealed, but it's also not something ever worth leaking.

The problem is, most of the single-player modes in Smash Wii U are awful, lol. With all due respect you're probably the only guy I've seen who thinks that the new Classic Mode we're getting is apparantly a step down from the much maligned Wii U incarnation.

The new Classic Mode and boss fights we've seen are already better than the majority of Smash 4's singleplayer offerings.

Looking at this poll of 6,500 (afaik, the most comprehensive Smash poll in existence; https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/89n2gq/official_rsmashbros_smash_switch_character/):
  1. Waluigi (Super Mario)
  2. Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight)
  3. Banjo & Kazooie (Banjo-Kazooie)
  4. King K. Rool (Donkey Kong Country)
  5. Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot)
  6. Isaac (Golden Sun)
  7. Bandana Dee (Kirby)
  8. Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles)
  9. Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
  10. Decidueye (Pokémon)
Given that Banjo and Kazooie debuted on a Nintendo platform exclusively, surely they are now the characters that are strongest contention for inclusion in SSBU. Now, while I'm certain that Phil Harrison would allow for BK to appear in Smash, he would want a couple of their characters to be sent alongside them. Minecraft's Steve is arguably more likely given that Minecraft is on three Nintendo consoles; however, I do not think we should rule out the Chief.

It is also worth noting that the void between BK, Isaac and the next most-likely characters is humongous.

No way in hell they're rigging, skinning, and animating 700+ trophies.

They could make it work if the "trophies" are models that'll already be in the game. If the Spirits mode is like Subspace Emissary, there'll likely be plenty of enemies to pick from, not to mention background characters that already have animations in other scenes (the Old Man from BotW, most Pokémon) and Assist Trophies. It'd be disappointing to lose unique trophies but Wii U and 3DS were already mostly model rips anyway. They could at least match Melee's count with what's already in the game.

Some leaker mentioned "Everyone's here!" didn't refer only to fighters...

What I mean is, if 80%~90% of the game trophies are ported from Smash4, then they could use the time spent modelling and texturing them instead for rigging and animating...

I just really value replayabilty. I wouldn't mind the new Classic mode if it was a lot more random. The fact that every time you play with say Mario you face the exact same route of opponents destroys the replayability.

The most "likely" character isn't an exclusive console from another hardware owner.

Post direct conversation really became madness.

By the time you play it with every character and return to Mario you will have forgotten who you faced with him.

It doesn't matter as much if you like playing with all the characters but if you only have a handful of chars you enjoy using it's a huge deal I think.
Classic Mode is designed to get you to play characters you aren't used to using. You're supposed to try a bunch of different characters in Smash, single player isn't designed to only be played by a handful of characters.

Love seeing how many people apparently want Isaac in this, nice to see that Ray got a bit of love even though he's much farther down the list.

I just don't see Bandana Dee being announced at this point, especially after the characters announced in the last Direct. He's not in the same league in terms of big surprises. Apart from (apparently Japan) and a really small minority, the overall reaction would be ".....okay?"

That can't be true, Reddit said so! And Phil's such a nice guy! I can tell from his Twitter account!
Phil Spencer once made a tweet where he said "i like competition" and now Satya Nadella opened his eyes and is giving money to Apple!

Sakurai doesn't care about this. He doesn't pick characters thinking "who will get the biggest internet reaction???"

Shulk was the last trailer for Smash 3DS.

The idea that a Kirby character, and one that tops nearly every single Japanese newcomer want list, would appeal to a "small minority" is ridiculous

Making it random everytime makes it worse.
It's just the same random mess for every character.
Tailoring it for each character makes it more unique and interesting.

We're looking at a minimum of 3 unique newcomers and 3 echoes (very conservative estimate). With DLC support for a couple of years, this game is going to have the most insane fighting roster we will ever see. No fighting game can match the variation and depth of each character here.

I'm not sure Sakurai (or anyone) will top this iteration in sheer quantity of content.

Nice comparison of the Paper Mario 3DS Stage of Smash Ultimate and a fake leak image posted way before Ultimates announcement.
Which do you like more?

Is skull kid a puppet? I always imagined him as more of a scarecrow thing, but I honestly don't know what's going on with his skin. Maybe it's feathers? He does have a beak lol

I mean ...

He is not against it.

Phil is not the exclusive IP holder though. There's miles of legal to get through, on both sides.

Phil saying something on Twitter is totally noncommittal. He can be for whatever he wants without acknowledging the reality of getting the behemoth that signs his paychecks to agree to it.

Yeah I suppose that's a fair point.

Did you miss the part where I said "apart from Japan"?
