I'm a huge Spidey fan and that does nothing for me.

I want this to be the best game ever but my God am I ever skeptical every time a trailer comes out. I don't want dark gritty Spidey and the enemies look like trash. Oh god please be good.

I have no idea how anyone could get "dark and gritty" from any of the footage of this game

True, though I dunno about scratching the surface lol - putting all that in the first game seems pretty bold imo. Those are most of the iconic villains, aren't they? Not all of them though. Sandman, Kraven, Mysterio, Lizard and the Symbiote stuff would be great to put in the sequels. Saving Green Goblin for a later game would be cool, as well as Hobgoblin. And I'm sure many of the villains in this one will be back in 2 and 3, just like the villains in the Arkham games. I'm sure Insomniac have a treatment of the next two sequels already written out so overall I think my takeaway so far is less a concern of the first game being front loaded than hype that they are putting everything into making this trilogy as amazing as possible.

Rewatching Spectacular Spider-Man, I am so excited to be involved in this world. Lots of people are comparing this to an Arkham game, but one thing I honestly hope it copies from that series is the adherence to lore and fan service. So many little references and different characters.

I'm really glad we're playing as an established Spidey too. As good as stuff like Homecoming/Ultimate/Spectacular is, it'll be a nice change to play as vet Spidey who's been doing this for a while.

I don't love the animation style honestly, but the story/writing is solid.

I'm still imagining an alternate universe where we got Spider-Man: TAS in the 90's with the same production values as Batman TAS. Instead of the frankly bizarre Spider-Man series where we had beat cops with laser guns and no punching. I have a soft nostalgic spot for that series, but man it does not hold up in the least.

I love the ridiculously posh Kingpin though. And Memey Venom.

We were very proud of the SDCC Trailer, which we cut in-house. :)

I recently binge-watched Spectacular after not really seeing it since it first aired (I couldn't even remember if I had seen both seasons) and I really don't get the overwhelming hype for it. It's a solid show, but hugely overrated.
  1. Venom was only given 1 episode before being dispatched in season 1. So much for being a huge threat. (yeah, I know, they had plans for him in later seasons)
  2. I really didn't like some of the highschool character like Rand Robertson's girlfriend or how they portrayed Liz Allen
  3. Peter and Eddie being friends whose parents died together was a cool twist on the characters, but Eddie's turn from loving Pete as his bro to hating him happened WAY too abruptly. So he just becomes his mortal enemy after taking pictures of the Lizard and the symbiote "theft"?

My B******t senses are going berserk.

It had the best open theme music.
On point voice acting.
Fleshed and engaging arcs.
Fleshed out villains, including the origin stories and there motivations.
Great cameo appearance's.

Being a 90's baby, I'm most definitely biased. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong :)

Then why call him out? I agree with the trailer not being dark and gritty to me, but that doesn't give me the right to belittle him and his opinion. Even if 99 % have the same opinion doesn't make that the correct opinion. It's an opinion. Chill.

I have a soft spot for it, but it was cheesy AF and spoiled by network censorship.

Still, the voice is my default way to imagine Spidey's voice when reading comics... though actually my proper head canon Spidey is from the PS1 game. Such great banter.
