I saw this tweet the other day about some guy offering a supposed sealed copy of Wario's Woods on NES. The raffle is not what caught my eye, not even the fact he had a sealed copy of a NES game from 1994 (famously the last first party title for the console well into the SNES' life). WHat caught my eye is what I saw in the lower left corner of the box:
The first game I ever remember seeing with that rating plastered on a box was for DKC1 which I got on Christmas day 1994. Its crazy to me that around that same time I was getting my mind blown by the SNES and its prerendered jungle sprites the NES was still alive so much after its successor was riding high that games got to be around to have ESRB ratings!
This fascinated me to no end and did a quick Google search of what other NES games got an ESRB rating and it turns out that's the only one.
The NES was truly a force to be reckoned with. Since the N64 every console has died a slow death before the next console has come out and even the SNES was only around for like another year or two tops after the N64 launched but here's the NES launching a new game FOUR years after the Japanese launch of the SNES (three if you count its NA release).
I raise my glass to the little gray machine that could.
EDIT: Requested mods to fix the title to singular since there was only, to my knowledge, one NES game with an ESRB rating.
