Killed Anjanath solo finally. I feel bad that my strategy mostly revolves around breaking his feet and then spin2win with the switch axe's wild swing indefinitely, but he's dead, damn it.
late reply but SA axe mode's highest dps combo is actually wild swing into sword mode transform attack
basically 1-2 hits of wild swing then into sword transform, it's hard to use because the transform attack moves you forward
early on when i play SA i mainly use axe mode upwards and downwards swing non stop to cut tails and break face, the upwards swing has the most vertical distance reach out of all melee afaik
take note that the upwards swing will knock allies into the air though, with good coordination can lead to your allies mounting since they can recover mid air and attack

Yeah that's what I normally do now. Usually two normal swings into wild swing for 4 hits or so, then transform for the three-hit combo, then try to get amped for the discharge mount.

I'm thinking about changing to something else, though. Maybe long sword or insect glaive, something a little snappier with a full combo that is easier to land on fast enemies.

Anyone else getting an issue where they lose camera control during/after an animation? It's most noticeable on the Zorah Magdaros missions and using the cannons. After firing one, when you'd want to run back to the pile of cannonballs my camera and character kinda spaz out for 1-4 seconds and I usually end up running off in a random direction while the camera will rotate 45-90 degrees even though I only tapped the right stick to make a slight adjustment. My friends don't seem to be having this problem so I'm not sure what the deal is. Never had an issue like this with my controller in other games so it's gotta be something to do with MHW specifically.

Yeah seems like the longer I play the more likely it is to happen.

Just found someone else reporting the same issue. He thinks it's rumble related??

https://steamcommunity.com/app/582010/discussions/3/1745594817440367251/

I am using the Switch controller emulating a 360 pad, but so is another friend I'm playing with and he doesn't have the problem nearly as much. Guess I'll try turning rumble off for now, I can barely feel it anyway.

Edit: YUP, turning off rumble in the in-game settings fixes it immediately.

Just had my third crash and I'm pretty bummed. Had just downed a hard monster too, but hadn't gone back to base yet, so no autosave.

Two of the crashes have been full on Blue Screen of Death, hard reset crashes too. Come on Capcom.

When it gives me the option to vote at the end of a quest with right stick click scrolling through, is there a way to confirm my vote or do I just need to select and let it count down?

SA is actually quite a mobile weapon, axe mode mobility is quite high
also, 1 last SA trick, if you roll over a ledge/cliff in axe mode and your SA is fully amped, press all your attack buttons (dunno the button on PC) to do air zero sum discharge
basically you will stab in sword mode and if it connects you will immediately go into zero sum discharge, it's pretty cool

What's a good CB upgrade path to start moving down? Jagras?

Start with Dear Lutemis for low rank. Going into high rank, your next target should be the Diablos path.

Dear Lutemis has very good raw damage for a low rank weapon. The poison damage is just icing on the cake. The materials are not that hard to obtain (only exception is Rathian plate). I managed to get this weapon before the Tobi-Kadachi quest.

I don't like how there's so much emphasis on upgrading weapons instead of making new ones, like with gear sets. Do I have to keep making low level weapons to upgrade them the whole game? Does it change to be more like in the old games at some point?

Bluescreen points to a much bigger problem. A buggy game rarely causes a bluescreen. Did you overclock your hardware? How old is your pc? All Windows/driver updates?

Busted thru to HR11 this weekend. Not setting the world on fire but into the high stuff anyways.

Didn't even bother with armor until HR 8 or 9, but I played on PS4.

Guess I should mention that I'm running i7-8086K, 1080Ti, 32GB with zero issues. It runs great so far and no technical problems.

Sounds like you are overclocking or have faulty hardware.

Application issues generally don't drag windows down, hardware issues do drag Windows with it.

That is cool, thanks. So Y+B+RT/Triangle+Circle+R2 via default controls?

Just yesterday you were saying GL is weaker than Switchaxe. Now what have change for you lol.

While I still like switch axe, and honestly do feel like it does easier damage in the long run, I just really like wyvern fire. I knownwide lance is considered to be the worst of the 3 by a lot of people but I'm gonna use it anyways, just for the Webern fire damage.

And I didn't upgrade my armor either till HR 8-9, basically when you get the rathalos/diablos quests. Up until that point I was still wearing great jagaras gear...

Thanks guys. Gonna look into it. I am running my CPU and GPU overclocked. Never had a problem with them before, but then again, I've never had a game tax a CPU to 100% like Monster Hunter does.

Wide is considered worst of the 3 is due to the fact theres no lvl 4 wide shot in the game whereas there is for Normal 4 and Long 4. You have to wait for Capcom to release Kulve Taroth for PC where it has Wide 4 Gunlances. Wide 4 shelling damage with pokes can output crazy damage.

Testing with a DX12 application is a pretty good way to see if a system is stable with games.
Rise of the Tomb Raider or 3Dmark Time Spy usually crash for me within 15-30 minutes if the system is unstable.

I run an overclocked 1700x and 1080 on Win10 with HyperV enabled and I have been able to run MHW for 30 hours without a crash.

Somewhere.
Man, I seen the complaint about it and all, but think now as I was looking at the hunting horn upgrade tree, damn it hit me at many of these of these looking so same-y. I wonder if that also means the sounds are quite same-y throughout too, since that was part of the charm for the hunting horn selection. Ah well, Teostra's horn is one of my favorites, so I will definitely work on that when access to it comes around.

So even though there is a lot of depth to it and I'm a noob, I am now using the insect glaive. That vault you can do with it is just the best :) It also has the speed and reach I was looking for and it's not too weak on the attack power. The insect that comes with it is cool too. It actually killed a beast for me already >.>

Is it possible to create sessions that are private that then allow friends to join directly or do they have to join via ID every time?

Just create your own session and have your friend join through the friend sessions option. Treat it like a private session, because people generally don't randomly hop into other people's missions unless they're communicating in some way.

In other news, I just picked up the Magdaros gunlance today and HOOH BOY does this baby pack a punch. It's crazy how much the charged blast + blast element changes your playstyle. Went from a wide gunlance quick melee combo + shelling style to a completely charged shelling powerhouse. Doing 80+ damage per charged blast, and am staggering HR monsters left and right. There is NOTHING more satisfying than wailing charge shot after charge shot into an enemy, seeing it reel back for a charge, then hitting it with another charge blast mid-attack, causing them to do a backwards somersault onto the ground. I'm in love with this weapon.

Interesting, after downloading the above mod and test it out.

The performance still bad (100% CPU all the time) but no more micro stutter when fighting Vaal Hazak. The interesting bits are the fps drop every time your weapon hit the monster (in my case it dropped from 60 to 55-58, or 56), I think because the game has to calculate what the monster will do so you will have like a 2-5 fps drop.

FPS will dip and raise like mad whenever you use the elemental weapon especially thunder weapon (tested it out on Nergigante using Tobi bow) But the weird thing is, if you use charge axe, when you do the charge your blade thing, the framerate will stutter. But when you do the SAED, and a bunch of explode happen. Your framerate won't even drop ???

The heck is wrong lol.
Also the best weapon in game also a framerate murder, Cluster Bomb. My Fps drop to 30 when I try to use it on Nergi lol

Used LS/HH on console, and decided to go Lance for PC. It still feels a little weird to relearn staying in to attack with counter thrusts, but it feels boss as hell to hold block on Nergigante's dive bomb.

What exactly is Special K and can it be used to increase performance?

Also does denuvo block it for some?

Does it have ps icon/switch pro icons?

I got ps ones which worked great. Switch on the other hand not do much.

Question from a MH noob: when undertaking quests is it better to rush to the quest objective or take your time and explore some? Or is it a 'do what's best for you' type situation?

Do you have any overclock on your GPU? I've experienced crashes with overclocks which usually work in every game.

Either or - if you have something you want to grab along the way there's no penalty for doing so. The way the game is designed, you can grab plenty of resources as you track down the monster.

Do what feels best for you. If you feel like exploring, go explore. You can also go on expeditions if you want, which is basically free roam.

Are some of the armor sets just really low rez? The helms in particular look awful on some of them. They look like placeholders before they pop in. Super distracting in cinematics.

General recommendation: When going on a hunt, go straight to your target and just stop to pickup some rare stuff (mining spots, etc.), if you want to gather, make an extra armor-set with gathering-skills, eat for gathering-food skills and make a minimal item-loadout.

The Insect Glaive is super fun. I'm not sure I'll actually be able to give any other weapon a real go, the mobility is just great.

Really enjoying the game so far but the extremely low resolution armor on the PC is a major turn off for me. Half the textures in the game look like ass. I believe it's a bug but I really wish it was fixed asap.
