So with all the Castlevania hype because of Smash, and the fact that it is rumored that Konami is developing a brand new Castlevania and a collection for Switch, what do you guys think it would have?

My list would be...

Castlevania (NES)
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES)
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES)
Super Castlevania IV (SNES)
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood/Dracula X (SNES)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (PS1)

I wouldn't be shocked if they do a few collections, but at least in the first, I think it will contain these titles.

The first would be Castlevania 1-4. Dracula X and SOTN would almost certainly be their own separate collection, maybe with Bloodlines and Haunted Castle to round it out.

I'd buy a collection of the GBA/DS era in a heartbeat. In fact I think that would be my preferred collection.

I'd buy the three of them on Switch without hesitation tbh.
Pack them with sprite, artwork and music galleries and we're golden.

This would be my guess. Some of people are way too optimistic about how generous Konami would be. No way they'd put all the Igavania's into one collection.

I really wonder if it would be a chronological release list, or a mix.

If they do a mix, it'd be weird - but it would allow them to offer games that are both old and new, beloved and forgotten - and keep people interested in owning multiple Collections if they prefer one generation of the series over another.

As long as one of the collections includes the Japanese Rondo of Blood properly emulated/translated, it will have my money.

Ideally should be The Essential Collection:

-1
-Sharp remake, ps1 port
-2
-3
-4
-Bloodlines
-Rondo (pce)
-Symphony
-Circle
-Harmony
-Aria
-Dawn
-Portrait
-Ecclesia

14 games are a good number.

Konami won't do it though.

No Circle of the Moon love? Would kill with a stake for a collection of all the handheld games, from CV:The Adventure through Order of Ecclesia.

The most necessary classic-style game in the collection is Bloodlines since it's never been ported, it's only available on the Genesis/Megadrive.

I'd pay $60 for a "remastered" SOTN that just runs on modern systems and maybe has some minor tweaks (loading times, music, etc)

Considering that the series is all over the place I don't expect anything not disappointing from them.

I fully expect a fully-priced collection of CV 1 2 3 4 at MOST, throw in Dracula X for good measure. But they will certainly not go through the effort of emulating more than two systems.

They will absolutely not adapt the gameplay of the DS games to non-touchscreen devices

Realistically, an initial collection would probably comprise something like:

- Castlevania
- Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest
- Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse
- Super Castlevania 4
- Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth

If that initial collection sold well, a follow up would appear containing the MetroidVania entries, possibly with some adjustments for the DS entries removing the touch screen.

The 360 version has input lag, bad audio mixing compared to the original, removed cutscenes, has a weird "emulator" filter as the only filtering option that isn't all that great. It's not entirely definitive.
Realistically, there should eventually be a new version created that also adds in the Saturn content. Still surprising that that wasn't in the 360 version.

Ideally this and we wouldn't get the 3rd.

Just split it pre and post SOTN. So you get all of the clsssic level based games in a collection. Then you get SOTN and the GBA DS follow ups in a collection.

Both would sell like gangbusters. I think this would be a bigger deal than the current Mega Man collections, and those are assuredly money makers for Capcom.

That's not realistic at all. No way does any collection contain more than four games.

I secretly think the saturn version is the definitive one just because of the third hand and sprint boots. Loosing the map button to use consumables without unnequiping the shield is a game changer.
Konami should remake sotn in 2.5D with all the saturn content.

- Castlevania
- Simon's Quest
- Dracula's Curse (with an option for VRC6 audio)
- Super Castlevania IV
- Bloodlines
- Rondo of Blood
- Belmont's Revenge
- Adventure ReBirth
- Symphony of the Night
- Circle of the Moon
- Harmony of Dissonance
- Aria of Sorrow
- Dawn of Sorrow (Soma given Julius' fixes around the touch screen stuff)
- Portrait of Ruin
- Order of Ecclesia

Mix and match and release that in two collections.

This is probably best split for a collection, but I'd like to see Dracula X (SNES) in 2, and Adventure ReBirth (WiiWare) as well. Collection 3 should have the Game Boy games too.

Smart to split SotN from the other Igavanias. Makes them all strong compilations.
