There were some good arcs, Avacado worked, but overall pretty middling show.
I liked the sudden cosmic horror twist, that was kinda coo

Gary makes the show fucking unbearable. I gave it my usual three episodes, the humor doesn't get much better and the main, POV character is fucking obnoxious and cloying in ways that just aren't funny.

His voice actor has no real identity to the character, so his tone and the way he speaks are all over the place all the time, and the mania just isn't entertaining.

Holy shit, this show is awful. Some of the least funny jokes I've ever heard and the lead guy's delivery of lines makes me cringe like crazy.

Yeah, I have friends who have worked on this and I can't look them in the eye and tell them "Yeah, I like it!"
The main character is terrible and tone deaf to everything else this show tries to achieve,

This show is pretty great. Sure, Gary is annoying for a bit, but I found him tolerable by the end of the season. Hell, I'd say I hate KVN even more tbh. Can't wait for season 2.

Binged the season yesterday.
The show is pushed as a Comedy, but its really not that funny.
But the adventure, characters, mystery and the visuals reallllly carry the show.
Its great i loved it.

Its more Johnny Quest rather than Rick and Morty. I think they should really push that angle and not the comedy angle.

The injection of comedic dialogue into serious moments of drama is just incredibly jarring. Can't stand Gary's insufferable attempts at humour, stop shouting mate.

Show felt like a Guardians of the Galaxy/Futurama for the teens who grew up with Adventure Time.
Wasn't funny per se, but I did get it pretty hard when
Gary and his dad beat up Jack in the past

I didn't. That was my one complaint for Cabin the Woods as well. Not everything has to be fucking Eldritch. Come up with new bad guys; Lovecraft's been in his racist grave for almost 80 years.

Watched this this morning. Enjoyed the music and some of the imagery. Got a few good laughs out of it. Would watch season 2

This is such trash. The dialogue is woeful, none of the jokes land even a little bit, the lead is unbearable and the other characters are cardboard cut outs. Even the plot has literally nothing to it beyond tired cliches and constantly feels like they're just making it up as they're going along.

The animation isn't bad but even there it just feels like it's aping better shows styles. I was pretty excited at first because I thought this was something to do with the team behind bravest warriors, but sadly it's not even a pale shadow of that show.

The problem is that KVN and Gary both exist in the same show and get a large amount of screen time. No need for two hugely obnoxious characters.

What sucks is that Gary has some legit great scenes near the end. The one with where he
travels back in time to meet his father right before his death was pretty well done and Gary is actually pretty tolerable in that scene.

Final Space is a super fun and surprisingly dramatic sci-fi adventure cartoon. I love what it does; the goofy humor balances nicely with some of the heavier stuff (I feel that sorta works for this show's aesthetic). Also, wow, it was better animated than I'd have thought, it really knows how to sell its most dramatic parts.

I really hope we hear a lot more from Avocato too, his voice is ... :( purrfect.

Yeah my impression was that this was a fully budgeted show from someone in the Newgrounds animator circle and this isn't helping, from the subtitles alone I can tell the people writing this are trying very hard to capture Oakley/Weinstein era Simpsons/Futurama and are failing.

...Well both shows got Conan O'Brien in common. :P
And whatever, the art style is simple but I admire the animation being expressive, it's got some great physical comedy~

Watched this a week or two ago.
I came in for the lols... and left with a lot more feels than I bargained for =(

I think you really have to watch the whole thing for the experience because the story/drama in the second half is incredible.

Booty butt cheeks. Main character wouldnt shut up. None of the dialogue reached me. Didnt laugh once. Not mad I checked it out though. The animation/artstyle was dope.

Watched it yesterday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really good looking show, surprisingly emotional. I do see how Gary could annoy people, but as a wrestling fan, WWE announcers blow Gary out of the water in terms of obnoxiousness. He's nothing.
Good voice cast, good animation, neat action and concepts...what's not to like? Looking forward to season 2.

I think the writers killed off Avocato way too soon.

Absolutely. This show wants big emotional moments but won't put in the groundwork to let us care about the characters.

I'm more annoyed the killed off Avocato because he was a good foil against Gary

Still it's on my Netflix list and I'll be tuning in next series to see how it improves. Afterall Bojack wasn't good in series 1 but it just kept improving.

Yeah I didn't last five minutes and this would normally be my type of show. Lead character was just unbearable.

Your Mom
regarding character deaths
everyone is dead, so I would be very surprised if they didn't reset the time in a show that has plenty of time travel already anyway

I think it's a disservice to call this "Rick and morty meets [whatever]" because other than being sci fi and vaguely drawn in a similar way, this is nothing like Rick and Morty.

Humor is completely different, ie, doesn't rely on shock or overly edgy humor, hell, Gary is the polar opposite of Rick as a character, he starts as a dumbass who seems like a selfish prick and as the season advance you realize he's actually a good guy despite everything.

I think the writers killed off Avocato way too soon.

Im pretty sure he'll turn out to be alive

Abysmal garbage that I endured just to placate a friend who kept screaming about how good this supposedly was.

As a final "fuck you" bonus the one finally good part at the end
Gary being dead
gets undone because lolzrandum!

Really liked the show, but didn't like the love angle I know it's not meant to be taken seriously but didn't find it funny.

It helps to know the source for this -- as well as being the voice of Gary, KVN, and some others -- is a youtube pilot. So while keeping that in mind, the comedy suddenly makes perfect sense as to what a youtube audience would consider 'the greatest evah'. Well newsflash everyone, it's not, but I do feel it would be disingenuous to say it didn't try to elevate itself from the rest of them. I do feel it's late to a party that basically already died from over-exhaustion. I mean, it's hard to find edgy humor funny when the real world is beating it every day.

Same thing actually happened to me when watching Archer S9. It's like... can we move from the satire now? I want to go back to a real planet with real people (and not whatever the US admin is)? You know?

But at any rate:
Playing KVN's death straight was actually funny though.

I'd say the whole 'Bolo' episode was the best one. For one, you get both Keith David and Ron Perlman in one episode. I do feel people are really waaaaay too 'omg lovecraftian stuff'... like, wtf do you think we saw as kids in those 80's movies? Non-nightmare fuel that can't be described that way? There is literally a Call Of Chutulu episode in The Real Ghostbusters, a kids cartoon. Why would that be impressive to anyone NOW? Like, really? Really?

I couldn't stand this show past the 4th episode. They should have skipped the humour because it's really trying too hard and yet the world building was actually pretty good.

I really enjoyed it after the first couple of eps and Gary grew on me as you realise that while he's an idiot he has some surprising areas of competency and he's very loyal.

Needs to settle its tone tho. It needs to devise on being a proper dramedy where the humour is situational rather than jokes or straight up adult comedy with ultra-violence and gore.

Great SF elements too.

Finished watching this tonight. I initially expected a comedy, but really it's much more an adventure show than it is a comedy, which is fine by me. Overall I had a really good time with it, I'll definitely be back for S2.

Abysmal garbage that I endured just to placate a friend who kept screaming about how good this supposedly was.

As a final "fuck you" bonus the one finally good part at the end
Gary being dead
gets undone because lolzrandum!

...in what was is it "undone"? The ending seemed pretty clearcut to me:
Gary is on the verge of death when he's rescued by an unknown benefactor.
I'm not sure what's "lolzrandum" about it. Kinda seems like you've got that whole bitch-eating-crackers thing going on.

Watched about half of the first episode. Rick and Morty this is not.

Well after a whopping 11 minutes I'm sure you'd know.

C'mon.

This really isn't Rick and Morty, but if you look at it through the lens of The Lego Movie (and presumably Lego Batman, which I haven't seen) then the comparison actually makes sense.

The Lego films have exaggerated main characters and an irreverent tone, where R&M features gore and violence as comedy as well as an anti-hero protagonist. I think Final Space is quite aptly described as a fusion of the two.

And that's actually a good thing, this is good because it's not trying to be rick & morty.

This is not a "me too!" show, this is its own thing and the first episode can be somewhat misleading as to what the show becomes.

Really, REALLY wish the title of this thread would be changed.

Yeah. We really need a proper OT that sets expectations. The Rick and Morty comparison seems way off for me.

Yeah. Too many are coming in and saying "hey this is not just like the thing I know and love. The tone is very different. They are both sci-fi, but that's about where it ends in comparison. Rick and Morty is nihilistic, is dark in comedic tone and has some very interesting/intelligent plots. Final Space is more slapstick is far more sentimental. Definitely far closer to the Lego movie in tone and comedy.

If anything Gary is plucky, intensely lonely and it comes out full throttle in overcompensating for that in the writing and where he is as a character when we're introduced to him. I think his character arc from where he is at the beginning, to where he goes is worth watching.

I didn't like him at the start as well. He gets better.

Not Kevin though. Kevin will always suck.

The only good thing about Kevin sucking was that the show shamelessly rides the concept that he sucks and he never gets an emotional "well, i guess Kevin didn't suck" moment
Even when he dies
