I know it's kind of wrong for me to feel this way, but I'm a little offended that some people think the game will have a forgettable story and/or characters (I'm not actually letting it bother me, but there's that tiny little itch at the back of my head when I see comments like that) because everything I've read and seen about the game so far points to that not being the case. The more I read learn about the game, the more it's sounding like a dream come true for diehard Spider-Man fans. I've said it again and again, but it sounds like Insomniac truly understands the character, and that's not surprising considering how closely they're working with Marvel Games on this. With Spider-Man's recent homecoming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spencer and Ottley's (so far) fantastic new ASM book, and Marvel's Spider-Man, it feels like one of the best times ever to be a Spidey fan.

I think the characterizations and the story in our game that anyone can appreciate. We focused not just on the Superhero/villain stuff, but also the human story. It's relatable. I still think A Crack in Time is some of our best story work in telling a relatable and heartfelt story, but this may eclipse that for me, personally.

All that said, the hardcore Spidey fans should find tons of stuff for them.

I really can't wait for people to experience it. Go dark if you can, we are trying to keep a lot secret and lots of little surprises in the story and game, which is tough to do and even tougher as the game gets more and more outside of your control.

So, random question. With us being weeks away from launch is there any chance of us seeing the photomode before release. That is literally the reason why I buy games lol. Had 300gb of screens on my PS4 at one point.

yeah, I'm trying to figure that out, we may do a live stream where we just show it off live as I don't think we can produce a video and get everything signed off in time at this point, I'm still buried from the press tour and other launch stuff but it's on my radar to work on figuring out this week.

Does anyone know if Sony announced their plans for Gamescom yet?
Yes from what we know its no plans at all.
Sony will be at this years Gamescom just like every year. Again, with a huge booth and many playable games, like Spider-Man, Blood & Truth, Firewall: Zero Hour and From Softwares Déraciné. There will just be no press conference.
They will be at many more german/swiss/austrian events this year:
  • Gamescom 2018
  • Zurich Game Show 2018
  • EGX Berlin 2018
  • Game City 2018

See? Stuff like this just makes me be even more confident in the game's story! I'm so excited for that human side of the story. We've never had that in a Spider-Man game before, and I think having that is what will elevate this Spider-Man story from good to amazing.

I'm doing my best to stay in the dark! Sadly, I've seen bits of the opening mission, but I suppose that's not too bad since it's something you guys have allowed to go online... Hopefully I can resist everything else story-related that comes after.

So I've been looking at the current best sellers for Amazon UK for upcoming games, specifically about the September releases:

#1 - Spider-Man
#2 - Red Dead Redemption 2 (October, but the hype is real)
#3 - FIFA 19
#7 - Spyro Trilogy Reignited
#51 - Shadow of the Tomb Raider
#98 - Dragon Quest XI

Nice to see Spider-Man doing well. DQ being low makes sense due to the franchise not being popular the UK. Shadow of the Tomb Raider being so low actually shocked me a little as Tomb Raider games tend to do well in the UK. The Xbox version didn't rank in the top #100, so not sure where that places.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider at #51 is disappointing but not surprising since it releases a week after Spider Man. DQXI is September 4th. Funny how the two lowest games on that list are both published by Square Enix with horrible release dates. SMH.

TB is multiplatform so PC and Xbox will help. Spidey will win anyway imho
DQ is dead tho

I seriously appreciate this. God of War did this too , probably to a greater extent, but it made the overall experience so much better

Dunno where to discuss this but how much of a system seller will Spider-Man be?
Better then GoW?
The IP itself's got a much, much larger audience, so that's almost a certainty if you ask me. Only way I see it not doing better than God of War is if its a critical flop, and I highly doubt that's gonna happen.

I don't know if Spider-Man will be bigger than God of War, that's not an easy task itself, but Spider-Man appeals to kids more than God of War ever will, so it can bring in the "family" audience to the PS4 in a way that no other SIE WWS exclusive can.

Any updates on Bluepoint's next game? Still a SIE first-party game and for PS4?
Some stuff from recent job postings suggest a few things:

- Remaking a "classic" game for current-gen systems
- Larger in scope than their previous remakes
- Humans and "creatures"

My best guesses are:

- Silent Hill 2
- God of War
- Resident Evil 4

Spider-Man creates a unique avenue of potential growth because it's unexpected. What I mean by that is that going into this generation you knew that if you wanted to play a Naughty Dog game or a Sony Santa Monica game then you were going to need to won a PS4. But if someone told you at the start of this generation that there was going to be a AAA Spider-Man game developed by Insomniac and published by Sony exclusively for the PS4, then you would've been laughed at. So maybe you have a massive Spider-Man fan whose just been waiting for a modern Spider-Man that's of the quality of Spider-Man PSone or Spider-Man 2 at the time of their launches. Or someone whose been on the fence about buying a PS4 and this is what's going to push them over.

Fantastic to see Spidey doing so well. Game will be HUGE.

I don't think anyone at Sony cares about the original GoW trilogy now TBH.

I'd say yes. Spider-Man is arguably one of the most recognised brands in the world, or at least one of the most recognised superheroes. His value in market is much higher than that of Batman and Superman. The question as to whether it sells the system ultimately comes down to reviews. Reviews are absolutely critical to the overall success of the game. I have faith that Insomniac will do well here. If you're looking at a meta of 85+, I think it'll definitely sell more than God of War.

God of War's a good pick for a remake but I don't think Sony will revisit og GoW any time soon seeing as they just soft rebooted it. Maybe next gen once the novelty of the new formula has worn off a bit and people are hungrier for an old school GoW. I'd also want Jaffe and/or Barlog involved in some way, so they can redesign some of the parts that didn't work in the original, like Hades.

As for the other two, Konami doesn't care about quality or Silent Hill, so I don't think there's any chance they're working with Bluepoint or remaking SH2. And if Capcom remade RE4, they'd do it internally like they're currently doing with RE2make.

My bet is Demon's Souls. All but two of Bluepoint's projects have been with Sony, so it's a safe bet they're working together again, and Demon's Souls is by far the most demanded Sony remake/remaster.

So everyone thinks that Spidey will help move more consoles than GoW. I have the same opinion. Those bundles gonna do great
NPD gonna be interesting

Looking at DS remaster sales... i dont think it would be such a good idea. I hope they are actually dping something else than DS.

Don't look at numbers sold isolatedly. In the end it's about profits and pleasing your hardcore fanbase. Demon's Souls could work wonders in these two areas, a swan's song before this gen is over.

A different thing is if they're actually doing that.

Spider-Man ain't going to sell more than GOW, the chances of that happening are less than 0. GOW is the fastest selling Sony first party title ever, 5 million sold through month one is big time. Spider-Man being family friendly means fuck all for games, I was playing San Andreas at 13 because my parents knew I was not a fuckhead and wouldn't start running people down in real life with a car. Suffer for a minute and hear the voice chat for 18 games like Battlefield and COD, most sound like they ain't hit puberty yet.

I care less and less about Spider-Man as the days go by, it looks like a very safe game and as cookie cutter as you can get. After watching the RDR2 redemption trailer, my hype for Spider-Man has gone down like crazy, either way I'll be playing Spider-Man next month as I might as well make use of the rental service I have. That can all change come review time though, they have not shown much of the game so maybe they are hiding some great stuff.

Sony holding their crown jewel back, keeping me thirsty all generation. It is amazing what that studio is managing, the game is above and beyond anything in the industry, the animation and graphics are just out of this world. Sony will have given the studio the biggest budget ever and rightly so, for Dreams will be the best game ever made.

Let's not forget that April was pretty much GoW. The other "big" games that month was Labo, and Hellblade.

September has Spyro, TR and even DQ XI. I don't doubt Spider-Man will do amazing numbers, but I don't think it will sell 5 millhons in a month like GoW did.

Does anyone know if Sony announced their plans for Gamescom yet?
Shu said TGS is the next event for a press conference during the E3 week. No plans to talk about the rest of the year. Nothing was set in stone. There was ChinaJoy with localized games and China Hero Project he didn't mentioned. But the question he got from the interviewer was probably SIE WWS related since he is president of first party games.

https://youtu.be/2xk-TYS7p5Y

Just a reminder: They have canceled Tsutomu Kouno's speech at SGC
http://swedengamearena.com/conference/#speakers

I expect a press conference at PGW which will include from SIE WWS. As for PSX we can only speculate now. They can either decide to have only panels and livestream from the showfloor or go back to a keynote that focus on indies and third parties. I don't expect anything first party related at the keynote like 2015.

That presentation they made last year won't they do again with the backlash they got after.

You're right.

It'll sell 10 mil in a month.
