In fact, Trump often leaves the White House for his private clubs. He's now spent more than 180 days of his presidency at one of his properties. Aides are loath to say he's golfing, even though Instagram shots show that he seldom misses a day on the links.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/11/politics/donald-trump-vacation-new-jersey/index.html

The article is mostly about Trumps 'non' vacations (can't say they are actually vacations! Then he might be compared to Obama who spent so many times on vacations!) but this particular line jumped out at me.. The man hasn't been president 2 years, but he's spent half of one year at his personal properties. The man is enriching himself since the secret service and all of his attendents have to pay to stay there with him.

Some people say "good it's better than having him at work destroying the US" but that's still happening, he should at least have to be miserable sitting through hour-long intelligence briefings like every other president instead of just golfing, tweeting, and watching Fox News.

He's profiting from the presidency.

By spending time at his property, he makes tax payers PAY for the goverment and secret service to move there along, with talking the travel expenses.

Its straight up personal enrichment from a public job. That's what we call corruption.

What about the many millions of dollars it's costing US taxpayers?

What about all the corruption, like the fact that three Mar-a-Lago members basically run the Department of Veterans Affairs?

'Mar-a-Lago Crowd' secretly shapes Trump administration's veterans policies
Yet from a thousand miles away, they have leaned on VA officials and steered policies affecting millions of Americans. They have remained hidden except to a few VA insiders, who have come to call them "the Mar-a-Lago Crowd."
...
But hundreds of documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and interviews with former administration officials tell a different story — of a previously unknown triumvirate that hovered over public servants without any transparency, accountability or oversight. The Mar-a-Lago Crowd spoke with VA officials daily, the documents show, reviewing all manner of policy and personnel decisions. They prodded the VA to start new programs, and officials travelled to Mar-a-Lago at taxpayer expense to hear their views. "Everyone has to go down and kiss the ring," a former administration official said.
...
At times, Perlmutter, Moskowitz and Sherman have created headaches for VA officials because of their failure to follow government rules and processes. In other cases, they used their influence in ways that could benefit their private interests.

You don't see a problem with a President forcing the US government to pay him and his properties millions of tax funds to house his staff and secret service instead of using the buildings and housing the government already spends money on? And not just for a few weeks of vacation, but for roughly 25% of his entire presidency so far?

Not to mention it allows club members to influence him.

Lmgtfy

The budgetary increases required for secret service to cover the cost increase made news months into his presidency. Before that, it was headline news regarding the amount of rent he was charging to have the Secret Service use and an entire floor in the Trump Tower. And that doesn't even cover the fact that he's charging foreign diplomats to stay at his properties when they come for State business. Or the fact that he and his family haven't relinquished their business to an impartial third party to avoid conflicts of interest, as has been expected of presidents for a century. And don't forget his family traveling the globe using the Trump name to charge people for access to the first family in thinly veiled 'business seminars'.

You can look this shit up and enlighten yourself before coming into a thread and derailing it by stating your ignorance and demanding others to fix it for you.

Here's one

https://money.cnn.com/2017/10/12/news/secret-service-mar-a-lago/index.html

He's also heavily increased prices at his Mar a Lago resort to profit from the people that are, in effect, buying access to him.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-resort-idUSKBN1592NW

It's all disgusting.
I kinda skimmed over the articles, but I think nothing is said about the fact they might also pay a good bunch on renting golf carts to protect him as he moves around his own golf field.

Edit: lol found a link by accident https://www.aol.com/article/news/20...to-rent-golf-carts-at-trump-courses/23235315/

He's not sitting through those briefings when he's at the White House either. He has no attention span. From day one we've had reports about written and oral briefings being dumbed down and greatly shortened.

i didnt derail anything i actually was curious about the topic at had but it seems you're trying to derail it yourself by attacking me now?? Sorry i dont take people who throw out claims with no evidence at their word. Why are you so mad? You have an issue with a simple question and a discussion? Like its a forum and i genuinely wanted to educate myself on this because i thought not staying at the white house = you know less expensive since youre staying on your own property. But hey thanks for being a rude ass person and trying to derail the thread it your hatred towards others.

What a shitty post.

Scope is pretty important in regards to this subject.

I don't think it's anyone else's responsibility to prove the existence of countless other headlines to a user who denied any wrongdoing of THIS topic's allegations. Finding this to be innocuous is one thing (an awful thing, considering the tax costs and personal profiteering), but to then demand evidence by placing the burden on others is exactly what the GOP and people like Jack Dorsey of Twitter do. It's the mantra of those who spout 'fake news'.

I won't deny I was angry, and I will admit it was unnecessary. In those two posts, I recognized the patented attempt to 'control the conversation' used by the right, and assumed it was an attempt at derailing, as seen here:

It's just that this topic can be applied to any President. It's arguabky the most common talking point that comes up in conversation.

Even if there was an accurate historical chart, it's not changing minds.

There weren't that many Presidents where the Secret Service had to rent his golf carts.

But given that dismissal is your objective this conversation probably already ended.

Yeah I'm not buying that either... Especially since the white house, and it's housing for all of the secret service/etc are already budgeted and paid for and these are unbudgeted expenses added on.

It's also not uncommon for someone to use "receipts!?" as a way to state disbelief versus actually asking for sources. But whatever, the discussion has been derailed enough.

Hey, it's not like the user that thinks Kaepernic sucks, defends the president of the US praising a dictator, engages in false equivalencies between Roseanne Barr and James Gunn, wrote... whatever the hell this is about the president and the hypothetical of impeachment, and previously banned 3 days for downplaying culture of sexual assault, sides with Hannity when he was feuding with Kimmel, downplays peoples' concern with reddit and racism, and this... might be a tad... I don't know, suspect, when it comes to criticisms of the President or certain things.

Hey it's important to "ask questions" when you clearly have already made up your mind about the topic and the president in particular. But "us people" will continue to be upset about Trump vacationing away his presidency costing tax payers millions and putting money in his pocket when he literally spent years mocking the Black President for taking a fraction of vacations.

never mind Trump saying that when he became president he would be so busy he wouldn't have time for vacationing. Fucking LOL. I will always call out the president when he shows to be both a liar and a hypocrite as should everybody.
