Thanks, reminded me to grab tickets for 2001. The good seats for that showing are already dwindling.

Supposed to go camping at our friend's cabin on the Entiat River, but the wildfires have shut the road down. Send some rain to Central Washington, they could use it.

It seems to increasingly be a summer feature of living in the area. I just ran out to the store and could see billowing smoke everywhere on the drive.

Yup. I can't remember a single day of smoke in the first ten years I lived here and now, it's pretty much guaranteed. The only bright spot is that it lowers the temps a bit.

Gonna be going down to LA this weekend. All this smoke is just prep for me I guess.

Any recommendations on retro gaming stores? Are Pink Gorilla and Game Gurus any good?

EDIT: I'm looking for any old or obscure systems, rather than just games.

Another Castle Video Games is a good one but it's a treck to get out there. I think there's multiple locations but I went to the one in Edmonds and it was great.

Has a decent collection of retro games and systems and also a good collection of arcade games and pin ball machines to play as well.
If there's something particular you'd want it's best to call as it's a long drive and while I think the collection is decent it's not amazing. Might be worth looking into though.

Haven't been to either of the stores you mentioned so I can't speak to those though. However if you do check them out please let me know if they're any good.

Reading the latest rumors about the 2080 Ti.

So is it way, way too late to even think about getting a ticket to PAX West at this point?

Back in town after a family visit. Today's weather is so nice, dead pleasant.

I feel hungover though after whatever you'd call a 6am flight. Black eye?

Speely is right. And if you're willing to pay a bit of a markup, you can always find passes online or even right in front of the convention center. Just make sure to get then verified before you hand over any cash.

Hell, I forgot it was coming up. I bought a ticket to PAX Dev and got a 4 day pass to PAX West with it. I doubt I'll want to go all four days, and last year i got a single day pass for each day, so if you have a day or two in mind, let me know and maybe we can work something out.

Red eye flight. And yeah those suck. I used to do those pretty often to/from the East coast for work.

On topic: I've been stuck inside packing all day. Have to finish moving this week.

I ended up going to Pink Gorilla in the University district.

They had a well organized collection of games for several systems, including Atari 8-bit computers and the 2600. They also carry Famicom, SFC, PC Engine games and other imports.

On the system side, besides the usual systems they had a Famicom, an expensive PC Engine DUO R, several (cheap) b&w WonderSwans... and Nintendo TV Color Game 6!

I was looking for a Sega Saturn, but unfortunately they were out of them at the moment. :(
In the end, for $60 I picked up a DC controller, a rumble, a controller extension cord, Samba de Amigo Ver.2000 (import) and Capcom vs SNK. Neither came with a case.

Ah nice! I might have to check that place out. I do remember Another Castle Games having a Saturn, but I only saw one on the shelf and that was a few months ago.

Sadly most of the their collection of Dreamcast games, which is mostly what I tend to look for didn't have many that included cases there either though.

It's absolutely horrible. Just the thought of enduring this (and probably worse) for our future summers is terrifying me.

I worry about our doggo going out in the smoke. Like I don't think this is good for him. We rather let him run free around the house than let him go outside in the smoke.

Air quality supposed to worsen before it gets better, and is officially unsafe for everyone, not just asthma sufferers and such. Take care of yourselves, SeattleEra. Get a mask... a wet handkerchief will help a bit too, plus then you look tough.

Well, I don't, but you might.

The last couple years, PAX has been incredibly easy to get into if you live in or around the Seattle area. The days of people hoarding tickets and selling them way above face value seem to be over. Just check Facebook Marketplace or Craiglist on the day before or day of the show and you'll inevitably find some tickets selling at or just slightly above face value.

Hey SeattleEra, I am seeking your advice. I am looking to get back into playing tennis, but finding people I know who want to play (esp during Summer/toxic Armageddon) is tough/impossible.

I have internetted some "partner program" type stuff and that's fine, but I figured I would ask here in case any of y'all had any first-hand advice/hot tips. I realize I'll probably have to wait till the temperature and air quality are better to do anything tennis-related but I figured I'd ask now to hopefully prepare.

I've been out on the court near me alone working on getting my serve back, which I assume is a very sad sight for anyone walking by. "Oh, look. The sad man is playing his invisible friend again. I wonder if he is winning?"

I know tennis is kind of a rich person sport, but I am pretty poor and would rather avoid any programs that cost a lot, though I am willing to budget in a reasonable fashion for this (like $50 or under a month) if you have program suggestions via first or trusted second-hand knowledge about. I want to get active again, and I absolutely love the game, so it's a no-brainer for me. I lack the discipline to stay active when I am not having fun, else I'd just run or something.

Sorry for the kinda left-field (court) post, but I felt like this was the most appropriate thread in which to inquire about this. Thanks :)

Is that home court the park in Ballard just off Market and like, maybe 10th or so? Were you playing by yourself Friday evening around 8ish? Because if so, I thought something just like that while walking by.

I suck real bad at tennis and have nothing helpful to add, but it'd be pretty funny if that really was you.

Haha no, I use a court near Tukwila. It's nice to know other folks are as ridiculous as me, though :)

Damn, I was just running by the tennis court on my running path two days ago and thinking how I'd love to play tennis again. I'm not going to join a league or anything but would've loved to play.

I say would've bc on that same jog I looked backwards when running and slipped off the path. Broke my ankle in two places. Out of commission for about a month and a half.

The smoke is miserable with a sick baby. Thankfully sick from teething and not the abysmal air quality but still keeping her in till this passes.

Not even gonna lie, I would be down for a once-a-month game. The thirst is real.

The HVAC at my work seems not up to task on filtering out the smoke. There is a nice smoke smell inside now. Hooray!

My kids are (unsurprisingly) losing their shit having to stay inside all day.

Rain 9 months, decent 1 month, smoke 2 months, repeat; the new normal here.

[edit] Maybe Cyberpunk 2077 can be set in a dystopian (read: current day) smoky Seattle.

I used to go to Pink Gorilla back in the day when they were still called Pink Godzilla and only had the one shop in the International District. They were super competitive with Play Asia and would custom order anything you wanted. Their owners would go to Japan two to three times a year and bring back goodies and they always had a great flow of used import titles coming in. I grabbed Ryu ga Gotoku 3 from them for like $30 a few months after it came out in Japan.

I think I went into the U-District shop once, back when it was half store/half arcade. Should stop by again since it's only about a mile from my house.

The Ave used to have tons of used record stores that had a good supply of games. Only one is left now, near the Jack in the Box.
