Its the cold hard truth sad but true. Just because Pokimane and Myth played and talked together millions of people are convinced they are dating, had sex etc. even if they both say they are just friends. The internet fame celebrity status is weird with stuff like this not to mention people saying derogatory things about others just because they hung out together and people somehow shipped them with another popular person.
I definitely sympathise with him on that. The internet hate machine is a disgusting thing. This very thread shows people are incapable of moderating their own behaviour.

But you can't do this kind of shit. It's sexist as fuck.

a little weird that he was cognizant enough of his celebrity status to take into account the unintended speculation around playing a video game with a woman but not cognizant enough to realize how saying "I don't stream with women" might make him look lmao

twitch culture is so toxic in like a billion ways

Where X marks the spot.
gee I dunno maybe he respects his wife and family to not get drawn into let's say a compromising situation and blow up his fame fortune and career over something someone else perceived and ran with.

If this is his reason than fine. Filtering isn't something married should be doing in the first place.

This fuckboi is branding himself as a fuckboi. Y'all need to stop caping for fuckboi shit. Have some goddamn dignity.

Also hardly surprising that toxicity is only acknowledge when it allows for a bunch of dudes to sympathize with another dude.

Even funnier when that sympathy is for him excluding all women from his stream.

By excluding people based on gender.

And that's his workplace. Is that ok at yours?
Yeah but at his "workplace" (Twitch), there are no laws in any country that says he is forced to stream with certain people. So it's actually legally ok.

Different types of workplaces have different laws/rules.

Do you recommend a law be made to force every single streamer to stream with the opposite sex? What about streamers who don't stream with other people period?

What about female streamers who don't want to stream with males? Why should they be forced to stream with males if they don't want

It's understandable and unfortunate. Twitch chat is by and large sexist, so it's not unrealistic that there would be harassment stemming from it. I don't know the details but if Ninja was perpetuating this sort of gossip stuff as well then obviously that's hypocritical and hopefully he knocks that off, but I also don't think that obliges him to put himself in the cross-hairs to make a dent in Twitch's toxicity. It's obvious that that rule will disproportionately benefit male streamers vs. female streamers, but he's an independent streamer that can choose what's best for him. It's not like we expect bands or musicians to be obliged to collaborate with other artists of specific genders or ethnicities. They just do what suits them.

Hopefully one way or another Twitch chat will improve over time. I know that the few streamers I follow have generally good chats, but, of course, that's not representative of the whole.

It happens a lot on youtube too. Two people collab and people in comments start speculating that they are hooking up every other comment. Both are in a relationship, there was no flirting, and it just happens. It seems you have to be in suits, with more than 2 or 3 people, if the guy is black, even more speculation will happen.

I can see this being bad for people that are married or in a relationship, is very popular, and has a image/brand that they make millions from. I would just invite a ton of people, and make it a serious thing like a podcast/meeting setting, nothing one on one.

Yeah people should start sending in job applications to be Ninja's co-streamer of the day to see if they can join his "workplace"

So it's ok to exclude women at your workplace?

Twitch isn't a workplace; it's a lucrative hobby. I'm sure we'll disagree on that but fine.

It's no different than avoiding a one-on-one dinner with a colleague of the opposite sex due to the image it may/may not project

Ninja isn't suggesting women cannot play games, or can't play and stream on Twitch, or even make money similar to male streamers. He's simply avoiding a situation that may negatively affect his family.

It's as much respect for his own family as it is respect to avoid rampant online rumor mill.

Why is everyone pretending the internet is harmonious and pleasant to it's users? We've seen online rumors run wild time and time again and cause sometimes significant damage to those affected.

It's a logical and rational response by Ninja.

Doesn't even have to be a collab, here is a video where Hamlinz simply see's Myth's sister in a video about Myth and makes no comment or mention of Myth's sister once

She's in the video for about 30 seconds

Nah it wouldn't they'd define his work as art and thus whatever whatever... he's not breaking laws he;s just perpetuating sexist culture.

The joke of that comment is defaulting to it's not illegal would basically be a cover for mist bigotry because most bigotry isn't illegal

So you will at least admit that gaming is sexist then right?

Cannot agree. He has proven financial influence with who he chooses to stream with and feature.

It's no stretch to get this litigation started.

Do some of you have conversations with Mom? Or do you avoid that because someone might think you guys are in a relationship together?

I get that shit all the time, what a pain. I just stopped calling Mom altogether

Maybe I have my doubts. I think arguing a legal perspective is pointless because it being legal or not is pointless to it being part of sexist gaming culture.

I do not think the law will define streaming as similar to an office.

Haha ok wait... so I want you to answer this clearly --

DO YOU ACTUALLY KNOW THE TECHNICAL LAW FOR THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION??

*Are you seriously stating that every single Twitch streamer is legally bound to bring other people on their stream?*

If this is a law, then obviously it applies to every person, not just Ninja?

Show us the actual law as it relates to this case.

You see, this is such a garbage counterargument. We are saying "The reason why he is refusing to stream with women is horribly misogynistic and an example of sexism in gaming culture" and you are responding with "Do you want a law to force him to stream with women?" as if that was even the question to begin with!

I'm pretty sure 99% of Twitch streamers and viewers would insist that GG was about ethics in game journalism so I can't say I'm shocked that one of the biggest Streamers on the service excludes women because he's afraid of the trouble it might cause them.

Heck, I was a video the other day of Trihex and a group of significant Twitch stream cry over a Kotaku article and calling it fake news because in an interview Trihex made a statement calling people "cucks" and "snowflakes" and the interviewer had the audacity to say the language were terms used in alt right circles. Clearly fake news. Ignore that the use of snowflakes refereed people who got offended at people spamming Trihard, which they do as a substitute for the n word whenever a black person appears on a stream or whenever someone steals something. Twitch is a cesspool when it comes to streamers with a large amount of viewers and their communities.

If he really believes that maybe he shouldn't be doing the same to others though. He himself perpetuates this culture of the inability for men to have a platonic relationship with a woman on the internet.

If this is about him spreading rumours about other streamers then I won't defend his actions on that. Yes, it was idiotic and hypocritical, and he deserves to be called out, but his decision to leave his wife out of the same drama he perpetuates is still understandable.

Furthermore, I don't really think his reason matters at the end of the day because it still ends up being sexist. Compare this to a talk show or something, which also has guests on - much like his Twitch Stream, if any of those suddenly stopped accepting female guests they would absolutely be called out about it. The only reason this is "acceptable" on Twitch and in gaming is because the industry is already toxic to women, and some are probably very happy at the prospect of women being excluded even more.

I disagree. It's his personal channel in the end and he explains that excluding women from it is to protect his marriage.

It's shitty but Twitch does run with all this drama garbage and drive it into the ground and try to spin everything. The sheer amount of Myth/Pokimane stuff on youtube is CRAZY just for playing together, and it all seemingly gets million+ views and backblows into both of their chats constantly.

Eh I think streamers are private contractors, not actual employees of Twitch. Streamers are not offered health insurance, 401Ks, PTO, or any other benefits that come with a normal job. I'm pretty sure Twitch treats each streamer as a separate business partner with the workplace being the streamers stream. They only have to follow the TOS.

Streamers are considered self employed.

I understand being frustrated with bullheadedness in the thread, but this is the most nonsensical shit, dude. There is apparent evidence that the rumor-mongering, gossip, and harassment, is real for streamers and internet personalities in these situations. Whether or not you think Ninja's approach to that issue is appropriate is one thing, but your Mom example is beyond irrelevant.
