Kotaku found something from Metroid

True, but only because there are now hundreds of random people on the internet going through all of his reviews and cross-referencing them with other outlets. Kotaku even said that it was a tipster that reached out and notified them about the Metroid plagiarism. If Boomstick Gaming doesn't catch Filip and call him out, thus drawing the ire of tons of people online, none of this additional stuff would get discovered either. It would be an extraordinary effort for IGN to cross-check every single review written by their every single staff and all the candidates they're interviewing with every single review written by all major and small publications. I don't see how this is feasible..

Yes and one is journalism, investigation, real problems, speaks for itself, didnt saw her flexing on twitter calling riot out, making a big fucking mess, it was on point , it was facts, the other is a guy going after another guy that was already given the right punishment, pilling on him with other colleagues to what ? What you want more? The dude is already fucked in the medium what more you want to happen on him, to me its just flexing on twitter, trying to gain followers , trying to gain fame, look how badass i am owning this kid, look how fucking hard i destroy him. To me its beating the dead horse for your own gain, kotaku should know a thing or two about copying shit you know, how many articles they created copying shit from reddit ?
Or it's just journalism. Lol

It's just so baffling that he needed to do all this plagiarism for video game reviews of all things. You have to be particularly untalented in writing if you fail to play a game and articulate at least some basic impressions. Did he seriously not even play most of those games? I mean, it really looks like it, considering the downright false statements he made when trying to alter the sentences-

That's just bizarre and for someone who does struggle that much with producing reviews etc. to actively search for and take this kind of job.

Also a little perplexed by these responses:

Filip: Keep looking and let me know if you find any more plagiarism

Jason and others: Yup, here's some more examples of where you plagiarized

Some people: Geez he already got his punishment, stop beating a dead horse, kicking him when he's down, etc.

I mean, he literally asked for it! Are people just supposed to take his word for it and let him attack, bully, and steal from others however he pleases? Christ..

Just in case it's not clear, since I've seen people debating this -- I've given Filip Miucin three chances to comment for my stories and I'd welcome him taking the opportunity to do so. If he wanted to come on my podcast and take my questions, he'd be welcome. I have many, many questions for him.

I'm starting to wonder if he's just really good at something, like say editing videos, and he just felt and/or really lacked the talent to articulate his views well. I don't want to generalize Youtubers too much, but I feel there are definitely at least some that crave the limelight and its rewards (more so than the joy of what they're doing), and maybe Filip falls into this category.

When I saw Jason's initial tweet with just two of the shorter paragraphs for Fifa 18 (I know he later tweeted showing more), I was only slightly leaning more towards plagiarism than not because of the Dead Cells review. Then, I saw the "Grand Theft Author" video and any traces of doubt I had were gone. AND THEN the news about the Metroid review hit.

I'm actually amazed (read: baffled) if he recognized these weaknesses early on and still chose to pursue this line of work.

Seems like a mistake by IGN to hire a Youtuber to do written content in the first place.

I mean this may have blown up in their face but a lot of these YouTuber writes their own reviews and scripts for the videos you may or may not click on to watch. They don't just turn on the camera and freestyle their thoughts. My opinion some of them are really good with how thought out, well written, and well expressed their reviews are. More so then traditional games site like IGN and others.

If I started taking posts from here and changing them up a bit I wonder if others here would catch on?

Kotaku just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Youtube videogame review culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in games 'journalism' where you can become successful by being a press sneak f**k. If you screw someone over in the comments section, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is Youtubers, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase Doritos, nor will they purchase any Mountain Dew Baja Blast. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Kotaku has alienated an entire market with this move.

Kotaku, publicly apologize and stop letting us know "if you can find anything else" or you can kiss your ad revenue goodbye.

Can we all just take a moment and say how much we appreciate Jason? Dude puts in his work, and deserves way more acclaim for it.

I don't know if you were referring to my post but in hindsight it wasn't the best way to convey what I thought here. I thought it was hilarious that Schreier caught him dead-to-rights once, he responds with a non-apology video where he calls Schreier out to find more examples (when he knew there were more out there, no less) and sure enough, Schreier delivered very quickly. I didn't mean "leave him alone already" but more commenting on how Miucin is getting completely wrecked here and it just gets worse the more he tries to counter-attack.

This isn't mean to minimize his plagiarism or belittle those he stole from, but it's telling that the reviews he's choosing to copy are ones that are typically on the more formulaic, buzzwordy side of the spectrum. Instead of plagiarizing, you could just not play the game and make up a review based on marketing material with some key terms popped in and you'd end up with something pretty close to his published work. It speaks to a spectacular lack of creativity and ambition.

IGN needs to open their pocket e hire someone with a decent salary. Its not like they dont have money. Actually, the game industry as a whole need to start paying more.

The extra examples don't seem like plagiarism. Seems those words/phrases would be used frequently when describing those games. And even if he did use that review as a reference, it's changed enough with his own thoughts added to not be plagiarism.

There's a good chance IGN will remove everything he's ever published on the site. Too risky to keep anything he's been involved with.
Scrubbing him from the site definitely seems like the way to go. If I was in charge I wouldn't feel like I had any other option.

Can we all just take a moment and say how much we appreciate Jason? Dude puts in his work, and deserves way more acclaim for it.
Jason is the best in the business, no question about that.

Tbh it wasn't Kotaku that found it. They were tipped by another source.
I dont think it matters who found it.. its about how fast they done fount it. If IGN dont care to look then thats they fault it happened to them. Its really they fault anyways since they hired him and obviously didnt do written example during the hiring process. He clearly dont know how to write and when he did it was a joke.

Jesus Christ those kotaku examples really double down on his plagiarism. I was giving him the benefit of doubt about the first report but this just keeps getting worse. He tourched everything with that "apology" video.

Do you have any background in writing, or are you coming at this with zero experience or knowledge on the subject of plagiarism? Look at the below again critically and with some discernment.

I mean, it's still plagiarism even if you change around a few words. I thought everyone learned this in school, but I guess not.

Oh no, I'm definitely in agreement with you. You weren't seriously telling people to lay off him, but were just referring to how he kept digging himself a deeper hole. I was just referring to the people that were either defending him or legitimately telling people to stop digging up more examples even though Filip asked them too, lol.

Yeah this is getting a bit much. Of course multiple people are going to say the same things about the same games. No one is going to be completely different talking about the same thing.

Now I'm just wondering how many examples will be found in the end. Amazing to think he believed his denial video yesterday would help his case.

Some people believe that if they just deny something hard enough and long enough, that kind of makes it not true. (See our current president).
