So this is my first time creating a thread and an OT so this is just going to be barebones but every additional input is appreciated.

Any hikers or interested folks out there? Come and join me at this campfire :)

Maine
I'm on the Board of a conservation Trust here in Maine and am responsible for about 1200 acres of conserved open space, including a 270acre parcel with some great trails that I personally steward. Otherwise I hike, backpack and camp all over Maine, including most recently the Cutler Coast up by the Canadian border which is gorgeous. In my youth I hiked in the mid-Atlantic quite a bit, as well as out West when I was living in California.

Going out to replace some treads on footbridges this weekend before the snow hits in a few weeks.

Cause I'm bored and like your avatar I'll post!

I'm a hiker by association and a begrudgingly one at that. I'm a relax on the beach person but a lot of my friends like to do everything possible including hiking. Will post pictures later once I can access my real internet and not just hotspot.

In the last year I've done Dragon's Back to Big Wave Bay in Hong Kong, Mountains of Kirishima to Lake Onami in Kagoshima, and now this Sunday going to Mount Kaimondake @.@ If I don't fall off the thing I will review and post pics lol.
You sound like one of my friends, he always swore he wouldn't join me anymore in each of our hikes, heh. Anyway, how are international hikes compared to local hikes? How do you get guides? Does the language barrier get in the way? Also, thanks for liking my avatar :)

You must be living the dream then, having a job which is doing something that you love. Maine, seems to me, like Colorado and Oregon, are some of the most beautiful hiking spots in the US. I'd love to be able to hike there someday, but the bears sound pretty frightening.

Ah, I don't do it professionally (I'm in the games industry), it's a volunteer thing that I do. I was out doing a stewardship walk today with a new volunteer, showing them how to check survey marker boundaries, etc. Also Maine has black bears, which generally do not attack/interact with humans. They will definitely go through your pack though, so you have to hang anything with scent at night. Highly recommend hiking the Bold Coast, Katahdin is a great hike too.

BriareosGAF wow, then all the more awesome if you're involved with two things that you love. I'd probably freeze in fear if I even see a docile bear, heh. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll put it on my list!

I might be going on a hike tomorrow if the weather cooperates. Three mountains in one day, albeit only 500 masl ones only. Dreading that 60 to 70 degree descent even now, good grief.

We did a small urban hike today to get the kids out of my parents house (a den of sweets and TV), it was a nice little hike. They had some lovely boulder sections where you could do some very light free climbing trying to get up the boulders: http://www.wildlandspa.org/south-mountain-preserve/

Would be nice to do something a bit more substantial like it sounds you're off to. Winter season in Maine will mean snowshoeing soon.
