My only complaint is why does a flamethrower hurt the demons.

They're from hell lol

Ok the early sequence in the second vid as the Doom Slayer drags the guy with the key card over to the reader had me laugh out load. Followed up nicely with the two marines at the lift straight after.

Seriously coming off as overtly ridiculous. Any time the phrase "Political correctness gone mad" is used I cringe, but damn... you WANT this to be a problem.

They're DEMONS. From HELL. Get over it.

This is a stupid post. The entire first game was full of anti-corporate satire. The writers of this series clearly ain't goin' "hyuck hyuck it's just demons yall"

But it's also early so it's heard to know what the jokes are driving toward without full context.

The jokes definitely mean more than the team probably thinks they mean, or else they probably wouldn't be making them. Not happy to hear them, but not terribly suspicious either. I just hope they don't signal the tone of all the jokes in the game. I really liked the goofy corporate shit from the last game, but I would definitely end up pretty uncomfortable if the underlying joke of the game was that letting "demons" into our territory is destroying everything, and thst it's being sold as diversity.

The game looks seriously amazing though. I could barely believe how complex it's getting and how okay I am with that. The arcadiness is exactly what I wanted and I'm really excited to play with all those movement options, especially the grappling hook. Everything looks better and I am absolutely in day 1, from a gameplay standpoint this is what I wanted to follow my GOTY 2016

This was also the first thing I thought, as there were multiple jokes in one trailer (melting pot joke, demons is an offensive term joke). I don't think it's anything to riot over but it does seem like a stark contrast especially after Wolfenstein 2 which seemed hyper aware of the climate it was releasing that game in.

It wasn't so much anti-corporate as it was trying to play with a straight face how obviously subservient and indoctrinated the UAC has become towards demons, how they've normalised them as part of their lives and foolishly expect others to do so. Like "Please ensure you've properly prepared workstations for human sacrifices". You could read anti-corporate into it, sure. You could read anti-immigration into the new demo footage, sure... but I really don't think that's the case.

You've admitted you don't have full context, so whether my post came off as stupid or not, you have pretty baseless ideas yourself.

This is everything I wanted from a sequel to Doom 2016. I am LOVING the quick dash and grapple that looks like an attachment for the super shotgun.

Sometimes a demon is just a demon.
Considering Bethesda's political stances I doubt the jokes are supposed to have some real world meaning.

One of the best gameplay demos I've seen in years. And did a good job in showing how slow and boring the game looks with a controller compared to M/KB haha.

Bethesda learn their lessons after the terrible promotional campaign for the Doom 2016. We all remember that nvidia video that sell the game to more players that the entirety of all in house trailers...

Maybe it was insensitive without intention, which is completely possible. But I don't think we can make any concrete accusations about Bethesda as a result. Perhaps they could have been more sensitive about the current climate, I just feel like they never meant it to resonate on that level.

shit dont exist in a vacuum. if it was 2016 still id be like "yeah i dunno yall seems like youre reading too much into it" but with the past two years i get why people would take the jokes as sus. particularly with the lines almost back to back, thats gonna blip on peoples radars

personally im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. like sschol i think its a goof they didnt realize can take on an unintended meaning.

Whew, that's incredible. Giant levels with some great new platforming opportunities, top-notch animation and sound design, and that space station level is such a breath of fresh air with regard to design and color palette. Some of those weapons look Ratchet and Clank-esque in their flashiness and diversity. But my god, no other game can pull off the "you're fucking surrounded/"you're trapped in here with ME!" tightrope like these modern Dooms. And Eternal makes Doom 2016 look almost claustrophobic in comparison.

I'm guessing the "invasion" stuff is limited to Arcade mode? (see also: "extra lives"?)

I don't have any clue how this'll run on Switch. Very cool of id to make it happen but...come on!

I love how doomguy just gently grab the red keycard and the scientist with it to then just casually take the guard's plasma gun. Again, Doom guy says so much without speaking a single word.

I can't believe people are trying to put politics into DOOM. Doom is probably the least political game in history. THERE DEMONS. YOU KILL THEM. End of story,

To me the lines just come off as an extension of the Doom 2016 stuff, they're super indoctrinated and are bending over for the demons. I really don't think it's supposed to have any deeper meaning than that, it's just a goofy juxtaposition with the demonic invasion.

I absolutely loved the campaign of the previous game so I cannot wait for this one, just the purest form of fun.

Doomguy basically pulled a "Son, just don't" from Avengers without saying a word.

I love the PA system

"The Slayer has entered the facility"

"The Slayer's lethality at maximum levels"

Can't wait for this game.

Even with the melting pot joke (which paired with the UAC line about calling them "mortally challenged" is pretty clearly just world building to show how culty the UAC has become) I really don't understand how you could possible interpret the demons invading Earth as an analogue for immigration unless your brain is so cosmically aligned that you think any media that depicts individuals leaving one place and arriving in another is a metaphor for immigration.

Yes I know the author is dead and any interpretation that has supporting textual evidence is valid and blah blah blah, but come on.

Nobody has said anything about taking any kind of action in our posts. I think you're right, they probably didn't mean for that. I think you're right when you say that the political meaning in the first game was secondary to the absurdity. The only thing is that the political meanings are there regardless of intention. There just isn't any reason to act like others are wrong for casually noticing and pointing out an object of concern, you know?

Super curious how this looks on Switch. Kinda rad that they are releasing it on all systems at the same time.

So good, nice little mix of humor with the brutality of the game.

It's been repeated ad nauseum, but the bit in the beginning of the first game where the Doomguy looks at the monitor that has a message that's something along the lines of "demon levels at critical" and just shoves it away exasperatedly is absolutely genius in terms of character development, world building, and actually being funny.

Do4M is a very good game with tight mechanics, mostly good levels and top notch monster and weapon designs, but all the surrounding lore and world building is best-in-class. The further I get away from it, the more impressed I am that iD not only didn't screw it up colossally, but actually did a very good job.

Yup yup! Or when he breaks the argent cylinder while disregarding Samuel's instruction. He just...kicks it.
On that note, whatever people might think of the person Jim Sterling made a great video 2 years ago about how great of a character Doom Guy is, I recommend giving it a watch, it's one of my favorite JQ because of how on-point he is, personally.

What's the deal with seemingly all Bethesda games having this ultra compressed sound? Everything always sounds like there's a very thin blanket over everything, same here. I think it may be the compression but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable about sound can correct me if not?
