I didn't really get into futbol until about 4 years ago during the '14 WC. After the WC was complete I made the effort to follow the transfer season and just pick a team and try and stick with it. I chose Chelsea because I liked that Diego Costa acted like an asshole, something you hardly see in American sports. What I found though was by the end of the season I was actually rooting against Chelsea. I ending up loathing them and still do. Almost naturally, I was more tempted by Arsenal and Liverpool for style of play and club drama. My natural disposition was fuck Man City and to kind of laugh at ManU. I actually felt passionate for teams I knew nothing about..and it all came so easily. Like seriously, Chelsea and their fans can go fuck themselves.
Anyway, futbol was a great way to start a Saturday and Sunday morning (Pacific Time Zone here) before college and NFL football. An appetizer of sorts. Nothing better than cooking breakfast, first cup of coffee, wife and kids is all still sleeping and watching some wonderful EPL. After a few years though I'm noticing I'm consuming far more futbol and not really watching as much football. And this year, well, I'm fucking giddy about EPL starting back up and don't really care or know when football is back. I can't believe it took only 4 years for my taste in sports to completely change. It's just such a better game. Between relegation, games being only 2 hours, no commercials, ball is always moving around the pitch, level of skills, and the genius on the field, it's breathtaking to watch. I also feel futbol is becoming more inclusive and doesn't hang on to old stereotypes and machismo like American sports do. I'm sure I'll get a lot of, "cool story bro" reactions from this, but I'm curious if my reaction and slow indoctrination is becoming common in the US or did I just finally see the light that so many of my fellow county men and woman are too scared to seek out?
Also, Juergen Klopp is a sweetheart. I'd pay $1,000,000 just to give him a hug.
