I like it too, maybe the mashing part could be done another way, but it's cool!

i hope it stays like that.

Aw man, I don't want to wait until next year for a potential PC version. I guess I'm buying an X1X; thought I was done with larger purchases for the year after building a new PC back in June.

I think mashing to run would be fine if it were on a shoulder button which also served another purpose. Locking out the x button is just too annoying

I actually tested this on GTA V PS4 by using the console's remap feature. I swapped L1 and X/A.

It worked perfectly. Way better than mash X/A.

Wasn't tenable though due to L1s use while driving etc

theres nothing new about it besides visuals, but im very ok with that.

Wut.
Did you read the previews back when R* held the press event in march ?
This gameplay video already covers a part of the new mechanics, but the game is a completely different beast under the hood.
It's like Bethesda's sandbox approach applied to Rockstar s open world.

I kinda feel like it gives you a bit more control of the pace of your run/sprint - maybe I'm misremembering it but I'm sure that was the case at least in red dead. Like you can mash it to sprint then slow to a tap for a slower jog and then release and it a back into a walk. Feels more gradual than just walk or sprint.

People liking mash to run is always the thing that lets me know that wrong opinions do in fact exist.

I know right? I mean I cant even begin to understand why this is supposedly a great thing... so many times I want to turn the camera around while walking in GTA games and red dead 1 and I have to either stop pressing X or do some weird shit with my hands... it is so archaic that it is not even funny anymore to suggest it is a good thing to exist.

Mashing a button to run is maybe my most hated control choice of all time.

And I'm gonna be real disappointed if free aim doesn't feel great and is perfectly viable in this. What's the point of improving the feeling of shooting if you still have to lock on to everything?

Not to mention Rockstar's tendency to have you move at slow speeds, if not outright walking, when your weapon is out. The lacking sense of urgency in their animations/mechanics has been as in need of a revamp as their usual open world control schemes. Now while this RDR2 footage was good, I'm not falling into the trap of buying into what we've seen quite just yet. I did that with GTAV and imagine the look of terror that crossed my face on September 17, 2013.

I'd rather have button mashing or holding one of the shoulder buttons than clicking the stick in, it just feels awkward and it tends to break the analog sticks on the DS4 at least.

Imo the four shoulder buttons are the most vital buttons in a game where you mostly have thumbs on sticks. They should dedicated to core gameplay mechanics that make the game "unique". Sprinting is usually just necessary evil (unlike lets say spiderman 2) to have somewhere and it makes sense to put it in clicking left stick.

I would also hope to would put melee buttons to bumpers instead dedicating bumper button to weapon wheel. I mean if melee was fluid and fun in RDR 2, they could definitely use it a lot in core gameplay, since i doubt everyone was carrying piece and enough ammo for it in the era.

Yeah looking at the trailer again outside of dead eye it seems the reticle locks on to everything automatically. Like RDR1 and GTAV before it, I expect more combat encounters designed around having lock-on enabled, sigh. Why can't R* let go of this shit. People actually know how to aim in video games today, and have for a long-ass time.

If this is anything like their other games, and I'm pretty sure it will be, it's going to have enough input latency induced by the rendering pipeline to make manual aiming without their standard lock-on a complete nightmare.
Rockstar sure can make a good game, but their aiming controls are always an unresponsive mess. I've just accepted that, learned to live with the dumb lock-on, and moved on.

At least movement looks a lot faster and crunchier. Let's hope controls get some more priority in this one.

You are confusing sprinting with running. Sprinting can be whatever button the dev deems appropriate to be. Simple running should be left for the analog sticks. Having me constantly pressing a button 90% of the time I move my character is just stupid and inconvenient.

You don't have to press x to run in GTA V. There's an option to run with the left stick.

Well, it looks they can talk and show it:

Aaaaaand I just noticed this (at 3:05 for example):

Is this Xbox-caputured footage or they just replaced the UI? I'm not saying it was done by MS, maybe R* made two versions of the video with different UIs.

Just replaced the UI. Xbox version doesn't say it's captured on an Xbox. PlayStation's does say it's captured on a PS4 Pro.

There is? For real? Its been a long time since I played the game so I dont know if they added it in a patch or something but it definitely wasnt there when I played the game on release. In any case if that is true, then it is good news as long as RDR2 has the option as well.

Yes. Not sure about the last-gen version but PS4 and PC have the option to run with the stick.

Yeah Ori 1 is my 3rd Best Game of All Time, BOTW is my 1st, GoW is my 4th, looks like RDR2 will jump in there in the top as well! FH3 is somewhere in the mid top 10 as well, FH4 looks to get even higher! Super Metroid is my 2nd and that's the only really old game on there for me. This generation has been nuts!

The only bad thing compared to last gen is that it takes like 3-5 years for many of the big games to actually launch, the waiting has been brutal. We only got 2 Uncharted's, 1 Gran Turismo, 1 Mass Effect, not even one Elder Scrolls. But it has usually been worth the extra wait.
Wow Ori is that good? Can't wait till next gen man...ironically I almost gave up on BotW since I didn't really enjoy the bow shooting that much and thought the combat could use some depth. I usually get like that with GTA games. Buy em after crazy reviews, but hardly ever enjoy them like everyone else. Gta3 is the only one I've ever almost beaten. BotW clicked after a 2 month hiatus, definitely in my top 5 games of all time now. I still have to play Witcher 3 and MGSV and Yakuza 0 and P5! My life is backlog...

Back on topic, if this is as good as the hype, I will try GTa5 again.

Don't know why people are doubting there base ps4. Gow looked phenomenal and are people forgetting about Horizon?

Only just got around to watching this trailer.

As someone who enjoyed the atmosphere and environments more so than the actual gameplay in Red Dead Redemption, I am getting exactly the same feeling with the sequel.

The new trailer features beautiful looking scenery with fantastic atmospheric effects however, I just don't personally 'feel' anything towards the game itself. The guns certainly packs a punch though, and it looks like the horse controls more naturally too.

I'm sure that those who were swept away by the original will find a lot to love about this.

The trailer gameplay was captured off the PS4 Pro right? So we can assume that there is at least checkerboard 4k rendering?

Either way, looked super impressive, can't wait for this.

I wish I cared for actually playing the game itself because goddamn, it sure does look gorgeous. The big open country vistas with cloudy skies are really beautiful.

The overall 'hazy' look it has going on reminds me of the cinematography-porn that is Days Of Heaven:

Im kinda laughing seeing this posts back but reversed now.

It's pretty funny isn't it. I mean I bought a ps4 and passed on the xbox for over a year as I could see the difference between 1080p and 900p quite clearly. I later picked up an xbox for exclusives and played the majority of games on PC and ps4. Now my pro is considerably weaker than the Xbox one X i've fully migrated to the one x as my multi platform machine and the noisy PS4 pro is for exclusives.

I go where the tech lets me see the best fidelity, I was saying the same argument at the start of the generation when people were saying you wouldn't notice the resolution from 4-5 feet. Now we are seeing playstation owners saying the exact same argument xbox players were doing. It just goes to show how 90 percent of the text on these forums is the same old stuff recycled from another side. The only thing you can do is ensure you are being true to yourself. I didn't defend the xbox then and I wouldn't defend the PS4 Pro now.

Manhattan is tiny. I think most people think of this map

subway_map_Jul18_2700x3314.jpg

Which makes Manhattan a good 3 times bigger than it actually is for tourists and extra details in the higher station rate. This map is also weird because once you're above 110 street everything is compressed. Old taxi maps ended at 110. I won't get into the socio-political elements of that...

Anyway Spidrman also seems focused on everything below 110. We won't see Spidey's (and my) home town of Queens. It wouldn't be as fun to play in outside of LIC's new high rises anyway. Spiderman attempting to swing through 30th Ave with it's 4 story prewar buildings and the sorrounding row homes wouldn't be too fun. The devs have already said they've tweaked the height of some Midtown Manhattan buildings to make things a little more fun.

Anyway I digress. Both games are exciting. But RDR2 will have the best map. R* are kinda the Kings/Queens of open world map design, only just now are devs like Ubi catching up to R*'s past gen stuff.
Yeah if I could have Spider-man chilling atop QB in LIC that would be amazing. But the map size like I was saying, in RDR2, will be massive.
