I just got this (took advantage of the cdkeys.com price error) and have no idea what to expect. Didn't play the original. Any tips before starting off?

- Don't spend too much time getting collectables in the first area. Act 2 is when the game really opens up and you can always go back for stuff later.
- Gems are your friend, especially the white ones when starting out because they give bonus XP when slotted on armor. Treasure Orcs can drop them and if you make small detours to kill them as you travel around you will build up a nice collection over time.
- Don't forget to use the Glaive (hold attack button to charge and then release) after you get it. Seriously, I forget it a lot but it really helps deal with crowds and captain who are hard to deal with using direct attacks.
- Always try to learn and exploit a captain's weakness before fighting them.
- Dying is an important part of the Nemesis System so don't feel bad when it happens. Getting revenge on a captain gives better rewards.
- Ammo count on your ranged weapon is more important than straight damage. Objects in the world can be interacted with to cause explosions and other chaos and many ranged skills require ammo to use.

Holy smokes the balrog mission is stupid.

Breezed through the snow level fort even though i wasn't trying to- just kept running into warchief guards. Had an orc on my side both save me once and then get held hostage during a betrayal - had no idea that could happen.

Definitely starting to feel a little drag as I've unlocked all the abilities I care about. Skill point levels are now just spent at random. Feels like I need something more.

I really need to keep playing the main story. Most of the time when I play I'll just find captains and see how long I can a big horde for, lol.

Thank you! Going to wait until Xbox One X is launched before diving in for that 4k update.

lol yeah the balrog mission was so random. they didn't even give much context. is that supposed to be the same balrog from the movies?

I hope not it was the shittiest balrog ever. Glorified Quick Time event that went down to arrows in the back and some tree troll I was piloting. It also felt small. Watching it run away afterwards was hysterical - he scooby doo ducks behind a wall.

My nemesis just kicked my ass again and after he was done with me (no chance to escape his kill once you are down), he casually killed the overlord, gained 5 levels and is now the guy to beat on this map. I am so fucked and I LOVE HIM!

AI in the pit fights is hilariously broken, as is the camera. Both enemy and and ally orcs behave nowhere near as intelligently as they do in the field or during nemesis missions. They reeeeeally need to fix it.

You get a good bit of XP in the final act. I was around the same level as you when I started, maybe a couple higher. I ended up hitting the level cap of 60 with probably like 6 or 7 fort defenses left.
man you weren't kidding. i turned on xp boost and got a level up each time i defended my fort. leveled up to 60 pretty quick. guess i can go around boosting my legendary gear now. although those sieges were getting a little annoying. mostly because it was sometimes impossible to heal a bleeding captain without getting smacked by someone. wish there was a better way to do it. do we keep all the orcs we capture during these sieges? i mostly go around pulling the chiefs somewhere and dominating if i can or shaming them if i can't.

yeah i almost don't even want to use orcs with caragors or with ologs because they just delay the fights by a lot sometimes. having legendaries rarely matters much too.

Yeah I experienced this too. Especially during the later Acts in the game where you use the fight pits quite frequently. I noticed sometimes Orcs that rode Caragors would stay mounted even after the Caragors were killed. This meant I had to wait for battle time to end as they stopped attacking each other.

As much as this game frustrated me so much (don't get me started on the Trolling trophy), in retrospect it was a lot fun; a great sequel.

god dammit one of my legendaries got killed on a mission and then i went to help another one win so the same didn't happen and 3 followers betrayed me on the way over there. one killed another of my followers as the betrayal so that was fun. one of them was a legendary too which hurt. i managed to take off iron will when i shamed him but i accidentally killed him when i couldn't get to him to recruit him again and he burned alive. :(

god i can't stand healing bleeding orcs in a freaking crowd. bad enough to aim correctly at them without trying to drain an enemy or a friendly but then you keep getting hit over and over again when you try and do it. they have to get a better way to do it. wish the heal ability just allowed you to heal them by taking some of your life away. i felt like throwing my pad through my screen i got so pissed. kept getting pulverized by other orc and got me down to last chance twice. just turned off the ps4 and i'll probably take a few days off.

got to love getting put into last chance out of nowhere while you were doing something else and already pressing a button and get killed. goddamn there is so much unnecessary dumb shit in this game. all because i was trying to dominate a warchief and kept getting random grunts instead...

Got to the last act a couple days ago. Surprisingly still fun, although I think I'll keep it as a game I come to every month or so to do a little bit more. I really enjoyed it and hope there's a third.

finally passed the game.
i stopped being frustrated during the last act and didn't care if my orcs died and just revived them when they did. just went up to high places and pulled the warchiefs towards me and captured them or shamed them if they had iron will. was pretty easy.

Finally "finished" this game tonight. Apparently the last time I played was literally 400m from the start of Act 3. Did act 3 just now and that's that. I'm not even going to bother with that act 4 nonsense. The gameplay loop already dragged on too long as it was.

I'm on part 8 of the shadow wars and have no idea how I revive my Orcs. Guess I missed something.
i think you get it by completing the champions pit stage in minas morgul. after that you just go to the army and hit triangle to resurrect. i wish they gave you the option of trading unused skill points for money. i ended the game with 30 skill points unused.

Wow thx. That makes a lot of stuff easier. Haven't been to Minas Morgul for quite some time.

Just finished the Bruz questline.
The quests after his betrayal were boring as fuck. They were just a series of "I tricked you!" all over the various maps. Totally undermined what little emotions was there in the first place.

Back to the sandbox.

yeah just like 90% of the mainquests. They are the weakest part of the game by far. Felt disjointed in SoM aswell.

Just got this. Looking forward to playing around with the nemesis system again.

Could anyone tell me when the game opens up? Like, any crucial abilities gated behind story missions or anything like that?

Act 2 is where the game opens up and also when you get the ability to start recruiting orcs. I wouldn't go as far as saying to speedrun act 1 but definitely don't spend too much time in it.

lol i think the game meant for one of my orcs to betray me except he was a zombie. it said cheated death and he even gave his zombie growls and then just stood there. pretty funny.

I finished the game about a week ago. Didn't bother with Act 4, though, because it seemed like a boring slog. It also helped my decision seeing how overpowered even the first army was, out of ten that would be attacking.

I wasn't going to spend money on loot boxes, and there are too many other games I'd like to get to, over grinding for hours upon hours to get better orcs in a game I feel done with. Until the DLC hits, perhaps.

It's a rather good game, but does get repetitive and a tad annoying at times.

Question for those who have finished / gotten to Act 4: If the sandbox is all I care about, is there a point at which I should stop advancing the story? Doesn't seem like anyone has attacked strongholds I've taken over except
the Bruz mission
, so I'd like to activate those, but not at the cost of triggering full on grind mode Act 4.

You will get a notification before the point of no return. But even after you finish act 3 you can sandbox around.

Finished Act 4 just now. Kinda glad that's over. That just went on too long.

Ok I'll just keep fucking around then. New fav thing to do is kill captains by flinging them off ledges.

Pretty much done with skill points - gotta say, while it looks like there's a lot, there really aren't. I wish there were more that significantly altered they way you play / fight.

Does anyone know if the Nemesis Forge/import a nemesis feature from Mordor to War can be done after beating Shadow of War? My Shadow of Mordor disc is not with me currently but wanting to start this on the X tomorrow and try and import my old nemesis at a later date.

If you can't, and with as few spoilers as possible, does the nemesis import add a lot to the game (especially since I can't really remember my nemesises that well, I just love lord of the rings haha).

Have they said if the Nemesis Expansions come with a new region? The trailer says that they come with new fortresses, which I assume also includes a region, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Is anyone else bothered by the jankiness of Talion's movement? There are lots of instances where I want to run towards or away from enemies and he starts climbing some walls next to them, or I try to dominate a captain next to me and Talion aims for another enemy much farther away.

I am currently making my way through act 2, dominating all captains in all areas and capturing fortresses. It is kinda starting to wear thin. I don't think I will bother with
shadow wars and call it a game after act 3
.

Talion's handling is a joke. For me it's most apparent in the double jump. Sometimes I fly across huge chasms with ease, and other times my second jump is like a few inches. I frequently miss my targets.

Even worse is when I want to jump down - I'm convinced it can't be done if you're looking to drop between two things. In any other game with a jump I'd pad the move, jump early and fall down. In this game I leap across the gap or i have to hang then fall. Even overshooting and using the second jump to go backwards results in me right back where I started. So ridiculous.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first game, Shadow of Mordor, but after finishing Act 3 here I was very much underwhelmed. It felt like the entire game was just a demo of the nemesis system with a haphazard skin of LOTR thrown on top. The story wasn't inspired at all which made it worse.

And I was not a fan of the changes made to the combat system, especially the manner in which you charge up executions. In Shadow of Mordor (SoM) I could just use a flurry kill and charge up two executions really fast. It made combat feel fun and fast. But now with the new system I'm just hacking away at enemies slowly and jumping around, rarely using executions at all.

Some changes were awesome, like the double jump and applications of the bow, but for the most part I wasn't a fan. The entire game felt like a grind. It actually held a lot of similarities and weaknesses with Mafia III that came out last year. In both games you go after your enemies established territory and grind away at the exact same objectives to slowly take over their territory. You then rinse and repeat 4-5 times till you reach the end of the game.

The nemesis system is cool for sure, but I would really hope the dev team doesn't get blinded by one game mechanic and focus just on that. The rest of the game suffered for it. In the end it felt like a glorified tech demo of their nemesis system. If it were a part of the entire game it would have felt fun, but it being the entirety of the whole game made it get old pretty fast.

Also, can you please patch it so we can skip Orc intros, I wanted to skip them after the very first one.

Edit: Oh and Act IV can completely fuck off. That is just.......I don't even know. It's not even hiding the absolutely appalling grinding that you would have to do....and for what? A cut scene?

Pressing B/Circle at a ledge will drop to a hang, from which you can drop to the ground. You can do it while mounted too, but they just jump to the ground instead of hang. It can be kinda slow but it works. The difference in this game vs. others is that this one doesn't have a free jump button so you can only jump at ledges or up onto things you can climb so you can't jump early. I personally like this compared to Horizon: ZD for example. I've missed some crucial jumps in that game and had to climb back up and redo them because I did it too early or was not facing the destination ledge at a good enough angle for the "magnets" to take over and attach to it.

Oh I totally get how the drop mechanic works, but I'm saying I'd prefer it with a free jump button. Free jump plus a more sensible double jump with Celebrimbor would be ideal. Dropping from a hang when I am sprinting is painful. I have to run from an orc pursuit, stop completely (otherwise I auto jump), then drop to a hang, then drop to the ground (hopefully, unless there's anything else below me). I want precision; this reminds me of the weak controls from Assassin's Creed.

Damn. I put in eleven hours on this game today. The first act is okay but things get really interesting when you get to build your army. That's when the nemesis system really shines. I played on Nemesis difficulty up until The Arena mission. I just couldn't survive the last encounter no matter what I tried. So I got back to the open world, did a bunch of missions, leveled up and came back on Normal difficulty. This time it was a breeze. I wish I could play more today since I just got to the best part but I just can't anymore. My hands are hurting and my eyes are red as blood.

It's not a great game but I did the same thing. Beat Acts 1-3 in four or five sittings all told, so clearly Monolith did something right. I think part of it was wanting to see how stupid the story would get as a semi-serious Tolkien fan, and by God it delivered. The migration happened around the time people started finishing the game en masse, so does anybody want to talk about the "twists"?

Talion becoming a Nazgul was... yeah. As much as I disliked the character, I will admit becoming a bit misty eyed at the true ending. The music choice certainly helped.

Oh man. This game is something. Second day, another eleven hours in and it's just so addicting to build and army of loveable backstabbing Uruks.

One of my Uruks betrayed me and I showed the traitor no mercy. Turns out he had a blood brother and out of revenge, that motherfucker also betrayed me and I made an example out of him. No other Orc betrayed me since.

Still on act 2 but I'm in no rush, just enjoying the game for now.

Wow this OT is a ghost town. After 49 hours of AC: Origins, this is pretty underwhelming and feels low-quality for a WB game from Monolith using the IP it has. But I enjoyed the first one and so the combat variety is coming back to me and I really enjoyed that. I saw some great tips from the first page. Any new findings since release? Trying to figure out a fun game play loop. I'll be sticking with it because the nemesis system along with the combat is definitely fun.

EDIT: Also, when playing on PC with max settings, sometimes the game will go low-res and slow. I have a 1070 and AC: Origins never did that. I'll be searching around.

Sounds like you've got adaptive resolution turned on - it's usually unnoticeable and helps keep the frame rate up but sometimes it goes full on SD.

My gameplay loop is usually avoiding the story as long as I can and training up orcs. Just have fun with the nemesis system, and try to breeze through the rest of it. This kept me interested through the skill tree but now that I've unlocked every active skill, I dunno. I just play as reckless as I can so that I actually die. Because gettting rival orcs is the best.
