Sony has the rights to all Spider-Man characters. If they didn't have the rights to Miles how would his uncle even be in the movie? :D
I get that. I'm saying I'm curious if they're contractually unable, for this period of time, to produce a live-action Miles, a restriction that would be theoretically lifted if the deal wasn't renewed. (I do expect it to be renewed.)

There's a deleted scene on the Homecoming disc where Prowler calls Miles on the phone and refers to him by name. So I don't think they have their hands tied there.
Marvel should pay Sony to rent the rights, and Sony should just make a animated Marvel universe tbh.
Yes, I like this idea. Marvel gets to do whatever with live action Spidey but Sony can build a proper animated universe of characters. With how good Spider-Verse is looking I'd be very happy to see more films directly related to that, whether it's about Black Cat or Fisk or Doc Ock or Spider-Gwen or whatever. They can be more outlandish with the animated films and not worry about having to stick to 'realism' as they would with live action.
Who knows. Maybe Marvel gives up a cameo, figuring most people can separate the two. (Conversely, Venom could enter the MCU in a few years and I'm not sure audiences would mind/remember. Easy to see that being seeded in Cosmic MCU.) Or if Venom only does okay, maybe Sony realizes becoming the bad guys that stole away Spider-Man from the MCU will taint their brand. It just makes a lot of sense for both sides to find another deal.
Yea it would be a win win for both parties. Give Sony a percent of live action Spider-Man sales, meanwhile they can focus on the animated universe. Spider-Gwen is dope, Black Cat and Silk team up, maybe even let the Avengers make an appearance or two (nothing major).
Involve time travel in one and involve Spider-Man 2099, etc. Possibilties are limitless and i think the audience would find it refreshing.
Sony already gets a percentage of the live action movies (on top of the regular profit as a production company/distributor).

Disney ain't doing that. Sony doesn't want that.
Sony gets profits because they also funded the project big time. I'm saying Disney should fund the movies and just give Sony a percentage. Disney would actually make more money with a likeable Spider-man because they own the merchandise rights. Out of any Superhero Spider-man sells the most merchandise.
Of course the studios wouldn't be happy with it, but lets look at the other solutions.
1.) Sony keeps the franchise, says fuck off Disney. This is a loss for Disney. They spent time setting up a universe for Peter, integrating him, setting up the future with hints for Miles, etc.
2.) Sony sells him. It really doesn't matter for how much, this is a loss for Sony. Spider-Man is extremely profitable and well-liked. This would be a short term idiotic move like selling his merchandise rights and TV rights. This ultimately would be a loss for Sony.
Sony doesn't just get a percentage, they get all of the profits from the Spider-Man movies. Homecoming and Far From Home are completely Sony Pictures movies released through Colombia.
The difference is that Marvel Studios is handling the production of them, and is able to do them much cheaper and as a result Sony gets a lot more profit for a lot less money.
Amazing Spider-Man 2 cost upwards of $300 million. It "flopped" with only $700 million.
Homecoming was made for about $175 million. It made $880 million.
It's a much bigger profit for them having Marvel Studios produce the movies, they benefit greatly from the situation. There's no way they can justify to shareholders to back out on a situation where they're making more money than they did before the arrangement came to be.
In exchange Marvel gets a strong Spider-Man brand for merchandise, since Disney owns the Spider-Man merchandise rights 100%.
Prior to the Company's acquisition of Marvel in fiscal year 2010, Marvel had licensed the rights to third-party studios to produce and distribute feature films based on certain Marvel properties including Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four and X-Men. Under the licensing arrangements, the third-party studios incur the costs to produce and distribute the films, and the Company retains the merchandise licensing rights. Under the licensing arrangement for Spider-Man, the Company pays the third-party studio a licensing fee based on each film's box office receipts, subject to specified limits. Under the licensing arrangements for The Fantastic Four and X-Men, the third-party studio pays the Company a licensing fee and receives a share of the Company's merchandise revenue on these properties. The Company distributes all Marvel-produced films with the exception of The Incredible Hulk, which is distributed by a third-party studio.

One man yells out "GIVE ME SPIDERMAN!"I hope this works out unlike say Universal's Dark Universe solely so it can build up to what's sure to be an absurdist culture-jamming masterpiece: Waiting for Spider-Man. a bunch of non-spider-man spider-man characters waiting in an empty space for spider-man, occasionally asking each other questions like "have you seen spider-man?" "when was spider-man supposed to get here?" "should we keep waiting for spider-man?"

Yeah
It's disheartening. One of the reasons tend to just browse and not partake in these threads anymore.
except Wonder Woman, Logan, Deadpool 1 & 2, etc
Shazam, Aquaman, Animated Spider-Man also have great vibes
people just like good comic book movies, it's not a conspiracy
Morbius will be true vampire kino. It has been too long since we had one of those.
You have good taste lol. I agree and would add MOS as well
I mean, they're introducing the concept of spiderverse in Miles movie. I see no problem why MCU and Sony can't have their own separate spider-man.Sony going full steam ahead with this shitshow makes me feel pretty bad about the likelihood of them extending their deal with Marvel. If Spidey gets pulled from the MCU after only 2 solo movies I'm gonna be pissed.
I loved Man of Steel. The Smallville fight and Faora was awesome.

Wonder Woman was only after the fact, don't pretend folks weren't snarky and down on the movie before it came out.
Same thing happened with X-Men First Class.
Like folks tend to be more negative for months until the movie proves itself, and I know someone will say "Well it's because XYZ" and that's fine, but it gets annoying when even the hint of an announcement is met with nothing but snark and cynicism, why would anyone want to engage with that?
This is my same opinion. I'm all in on Sony exploring lesser known Spider-Man properties. This seems like something fans of comics would like. Marvel/Disney can't make movies about all of the characters, there's just too many. There are bound to be interesting stories in these characters that Sony has access to. From my time looking at back stories to characters I unlocked in Marvel heroes, I was always fascinated about these characters I never knew about, characters that may never get a shot at having a movie in the MCU, streaming/network tv.
When Venom was announced, I read reactions here, and absorbed the same feelings. The latest trailer made me shake all of that off and I'm loving what I'm seeing. Venom looks amazing, and I liked the turd in the wind part. Seems like something a alien not familiar with this world would say, also reminded me of Pickle Rick (helpless pickle in the wind and rain).

Marvel has its hands full and is about to get X-Men and Fantastic Four. They can only produce so many movies a year. Sony has Spider-Man and Valiant. Warner has DC. Let them utilize their IP and hopefully we'll come out with creative and interesting movies that fans of comics (and not just one company) can enjoy. It'll only motivate the others to produce even better films.
