The Mi 8 is indeed going to be released outside of China. It's in the official Spanish Mi Store (and others) to be released soon for 499€
I saw it mentioned on their French Twitter feed right after your reply. It's apparently being released on August 20th.

Seems like an odd moment to announce this, considering Samsung is dominating the news cycle.

Note 9 looks pretty sweet. I see T-mobile has 500 off for an 8+ trade in. Would I be able to pay that outright or would they make me add to my plan? 8+ ruined me on big phones, now I need to go larger on the screen. Fucking shame nobody is really stepping up to eat Sammys lunch in the Android market though. HTC let me down, Sony is taking to long to catch up with the trends, and no thanks to Pixel or One+ for various reasons.

Don't trade in the 8+. You get $500 for note 5 or S7, which I'm seeing on swappa for $150 lol

Tons of people consistently complain about wanting smaller phones. Palm might just be on to something here.

I have small fingers and yet on-screen keyboards are a royal pain on a 4" (and I know since I have one of those for work). Anything smaller is crazy, we just endured them back in the early years of the decade because anything better was 500€ minimum and would be obsolete and screaming for more RAM by the 9th month in the market. People only claimed to like them because Apple was still making them, once they moved on to reasonable (still small) sizes with the iPhone 6 nobody but the most diehard kool-aid drinkers stuck with them and the iPhone S.

TCL doing something different at least.

Battery seems a bit small for the screen size. If I recall those used to be 1200-1500 mAh for 3-4 inch phones.

So wait, I just realized something I think. The Huawei P20 is the sequel to the P10?

Trying out Digital Wellbeing. Felt pretty weird when my screen was suddenly B/W. Let's see if it actually works the way it's meant to...

I'm suddenly interesting in Chromebooks again because of that HP Chromebook X2, lol...

Can anyone comment on stand by battery drain when the chromebook is on sleep? This is something that Microsoft tablets suck at that Android tablets and iPads excel at.

Got a chromebook pro.

Standby is good. Can go a few days just fine. Better than any windows in sleep mode.

Have a Pixelbook, so I don't know how useful this'll be, but my standby time is absurd. It feels like I can leave it alone for a week and come back to it with it still having a significant amount of charge.

I can't even fill up my 128GB iPhone. I can't imagine what people need a 256GB phone for. I back up photos weekly so isn't like they are ever a storage issue.

I feel nice and comfortable with the 128GB I have. I keep backup under high quality settings for google photos so that's unlimited. But then I will very infrequently do a mass transfer between my phone (from the SD card) via USB 3.0 to the big hard drive in my desktop. I eventually want to cop one of those 8TB hard drives for cheap and use that to throw all my media backups in there and double as external storage for the PS4 Pro.

Xiaomi introducing a new subbrand 'POCO';

There's already an unboxing video of the Pocophone:

Spec wise it appears to be very similar to the Mi 8 (Snapdragon 845, 3D Facial Recognition, etc.), but with a headphone jack, a 4000mAh battery and metal instead of glass back.

Release is rumoured to be for September which suggests we might not see the Mi 8 outside of China.

"Poco" in Spanish means few, not many, a little

Hopefully they don't release that stuff in Latinamerica lol

I'm upset with myself right now because I'm honestly considering the possibility of just getting a Note 9. $1000 is an insane amount of money for a phone, but that 4000mAh battery is extremely tempting, seeing as batteries going bad after ~1.5 - 2 years has been a problem with every smart phone I've ever owned.

Man, I'm really not a fan of some of the UI changes in Pie. My clock was in the top-right before, and now it's in the top-left! Now I keep thinking there are notifications!

Gotta keep the middle empty for the notch! Same reason they thought it was smart to remove the icons showing you whether you had bluetooth or GPS on -_-
I also noticed that, at least on my Pixel XL, after I had 4 or 5 notification icons it just displays a dot afterwards, leaving a bunch of unused space to the right, as if I have a notch. It's unbelievable. Assuming every phone your OS is running on has a notch is NOT notch support.

Yeah that's dumb. It should simply respond based on if you have a notch or not.

The top left corner of your screen is literally Android's biggest killer feature and they've just gimped the hell out of it because of a baffling trend that should never have caught on in the first place. It's unbelievable and it's pushing me away from the "stock Android" experience more and more.

Really tempted to just get a Note 9 right now, considering T-Mobile is offering $500 off in plan credits with trade-in of Samsung phones, including some rather old models including the S7 or Note 5. Seeing as I can grab a good condition S7 from Swappa for around $170, that's essentially $670 for a Note 9.

Not really looking at buying a phone right now but even still the OnePlus 6 bundle for $502 with student discount is super tempting.
