Just make Spider-Man 2099 and have Silk be your "we can't use Peter Parker so fuck it here's a woman version with the same villains and setting".

This has to be a ploy to get Marvel to buy the Spider-Man rights before Sony torpedoes the whole franchise. It has to be.

On this forum, there's too much negativity about any comic book movie that isn't part of the MCU

I posted a video above where Holland says there's a third movie after FFH.

I just saw the date posted was 13th of June 2017. Feige's quote is from June 24th 2017. Plus Feige would be in a position to know more than Holland.

http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/exc...ons-220?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

We'll know for sure soon. I'm certain that questions will be asked as we get to Avengers 4 and FFH marketing.

Does Holland tied with Sony, or is it just Spiderman? Say that Parker retire being Spiderman by 3rd movie and become a new Iron Man instead.
How will that work?

I feel fairly certain part of the amended contract is that the MCU Spider-man cannot be used in non MCU movies without Marvel's consent. Likewise they amended things to say that sharing of the rights of a character does not mean Live Action movie ownership, etc. It's just a way to protect themselves. I am willing to bet that SM will have to be recast if Sony was to use him in the SUMC. Or Marvel will have to give their okay to Sony so they can use Holland.

I'm not sure I follow.

Disney has no reason to want to resign with Sony unless Sony loosens the grip they have on the license. Their sandbox pretty much doubled. SM did not really add all that much to the BO of CW and IW. Being tied to the MCU really helped SM:HC. SM classical merchandise is pretty consistent year in and year out. Movie sales merchandise get a spike when a movie is released. Disney still has to pay Sony a percentage of the BO gross for SM movies (even spin offs), albeit less than the 3.5% up to 35MM they had to. Disney has no incentive to resign the deal as is.

Sony has plans for the characters they have the live action movie rights to. They have no reason to give up the grip they have on the license unless Disney pays them. It's a valuable license and they can exploit accordingly.

Either something's gotta give or the contract won't be resigned.

I hate when people say this because it's not true. This movie just looks shitty.

I'm looking forward to Into the Spiderverse, Shazam, and to a lesser extent Aquaman and none of those are part of the MCU.

It sucks that they're giving all these characters Sony cooties. What if Feige wants to use Venom or Black Cat later? Hell, Silk is actually IN Homecoming. If push comes to shove, Marvel will go ahead and use their own version probably, but I bet they're much more likely to resist the urge if Sony uses somebody first.

Yep.

Nah I'm sure people are going to be hyped for Sony's Valiant universe. Bloodshot actually has an OK cast going for it.
That's false.

Do we know if Sony can even do live-action Miles? The small connection to Miles in Homecoming made me wonder if Sony only has the non-live action rights.

If I was Sony, I would've made a Spider-Gwen movie.

How the fuck do you make a Silk movie if you don't use Spider-Man

She was literally bit by the same spider

How the fuck do you make a Kraven movie if he isn't hunting spider man

How the fuck do you make the symbiote compelling without the grudge against spider man

How the fuck do you make a spider Gwen movie when So much of her supporting cast are Spider Man or MCU characters

Sony can, but I imagine Feige would be super unhappy if they did so. I believe the next 10 years of the MCU will focus on the younger heroes that rise up in the wake of the Avengers saving the universe, which is why I think that Feige has repeatedly said he wants Kamala Khan in the MCU. I would imagine that introducing Miles into the MCU after the 3rd Hollad Spidey film is definitely on the board for him.

I appreciate Sony's commitment to yet another attempt at a cinematic universe.

Surely it will work this time.

Throw enough shit and eventually it'll stick to the wall.

The more I think about it the more I think this deal is not getting resigned or extended.

Ignore for a second that the author was wrong about Venom not releasing. He's right about his overall conclusion.

https://www.mtrnetwork.net/news/sony-lost-spider-man/

Because once this current handshake deal is over, Disney/Marvel have no incentive to continue to work with Sony for free. Remember, this deal is basically one major studio making a film for another major studio, and getting none of the money made from the film. This is where the merchandising rights come in. Sony is looking to build its own cinematic universe outside of the MCU with other Spider-Man characters they own. They have a Venom movie scheduled to come out next year (not happening) as well as a Black Cat & Silver Sable movie. But here's the thing: If the merchandising rights are anything like film rights, guess who owns the merchandising rights for both those films? Disney/Marvel do. Therefore the idea that Disney/Marvel will keep the terms of the deal the same once the trilogy ends makes no sense. What business would agree to a deal that involves them keeping what they already have with nothing extra coming in?

Furthermore Sony seems to be all in on their SUMC. They are betting hard on it. The only question mark I have now is if they have to negotiate or go their separate ways post FFH or post FFH's sequel. At the end of the day each entity will do what's best for their bottom line and shareholders.

Yeah, I have a hard time believing MCU Spider-Man isn't in serious danger once the initial contract ends. There's very little reason for Marvel to work something that's so advantageous for Sony, especially now that they own all the Fox properties as well.

The only reason I see it staying put is if Feige reaaaallllly wants to keep making Spidey movies, but with Sony stealing so many characters away for spin-offs it might now be worth it.

Plus, if Spider-Verse is a success (which is primarily a 100% Sony movie, correct?) they'll have just launched a massive animated Spider-universe with loads of spin-off potential to make up for problems on the live-action side.

I'm sure Fiege's heart is broken about not being able to use JACKPOT in the MCU.

I think noone would really miss Kraven, Morbius, Silver Sable or Jackpot in the MCU but Sony is also fucking up characters like Venom, Black Cat & Silk who could be great additions to MCU's Spider-Man movies.

Venom and Black Cat are pretty big losses honestly. And if Venom makes them the big bucks there's nothing stopping them from trying to use more important characters unless there's something contractually keeping them from doing so.

I think it's partly playing chicken with Marvel, partly Avi Arad trying to show that he's a smart businessman by getting away with every weird thing the Spider-Man rights contract possibly allows even if those things are bad ideas.

Sony has the rights to all Spider-Man characters. If they didn't have the rights to Miles how would his uncle even be in the movie? :D

i wonder if in another reality the DCEU was the sucessful universe, would their stans be as annoyingly entitled?

I mean yes.

There's this weird child-like mentality people have, that if something is done correctly one way... it's the only way to do it.

So everything is filtered through the lens of either being the MCU or not being the MCU. And oddly the complaints are always the polar opposite... should try to do their own thing or should try to be like the MCU.

Replace that with DCEU, replace that with Spider-verse or X-Films, the attitudes would be the same.

They can do whatever movie they want once this five or six movie deal concludes. I assume the current contract probably stops them from doing any Spider-Verse live action stuff. I just feel like all of this stuff is leading to Sony pulling Spider-Man from the mcu if Disney doesn't want to play ball, considering Amy pascal had said in the past that this deal may not happen again or renegotiated.
