the edge
Google should've just stuck with the 2XL design and went from there. I don't believe they couldn't decrease the top/bottom bezels and still have stereo speakers. The regular Pixel 3 looks a lot better because of this. Google seems to just be putting in the minimum effort for everything but the camera.

I really wish they did this instead. I adore the Panda color scheme and it pains me that it's wasted on the flawed 2 XL. It wouldn't be so bad if Google wasn't asking almost 1000 bucks for it. A refresh with a better display to body ratio, wireless charging and better OLED panel would've come a long way.

The info I've seen floating around points out at Google working directly with Foxconn, which sounds about right for the 3XL to look like a cheap Chinese iPhone X bootleg.

Thank you. I haven't heard this before but it sorta makes sense.

If they put 2xl sized bezels on the Pixel 3 that will be the way to go.

Hopefully that would mean the phone is slightly smaller than the 2xl too with a 5.5 inch size screen. That would be perfect.

The CAD renders show exactly that. The 3XL render turned out to be right, so I'm sure actual hardware for the regular Pixel 3 will look like this.

Getting my 6P battery replaced at a huawei-cert repair shop. $75 after tax, but even a second-hand Pixel is more than double that and i wasn't disappointed with the 6P performance when the battery did work.

Gotta wait for the replacement to come in, so maybe by next week.

If it works out I'll be good until the pixel 5 or whenever google comes to their senses

I haven't been this disappointed in Android in a loong time. Barring the 6T, the OnePlus 6 was probably the best all year. LG is giving away G7s and the even the S9 was meh.

Chinese OEMs are showing how it's done. If the 6T has a DAC, that'll do it for me

What a disappointing year for phones. OP6 and last year's X is ahead of the pack imo.

Pixel 3 XL is too ridiculous to even comment on.

I think it was disappointing in terms of the big players, but we did get some exciting phones this year like the Vivo Nex and the Oppo Find X. Both of those phones have a crazy screen to body ratio with a nifty way to hide the front facing camera, and the Vivo Nex even has the elusive in-screen fingerprint sensor. I can't wait to see these features adopted by the mainstream companies.

I still need my triple camera's, in screen fingerprint reader, and no notch, minimal bezel design. That will do it for me.

I honestly just need the big boys to have a faster refresh rate phone. I'll see what next year brings and get a Razer or ROG if they don't step up to the plate.

So what is pixel 3 xl offering besides dual front camera?

Pie is butter smooth on 2 xl. Can't imagine better day to day performance with the same ram.

Rear camera will be a bit better? Wireless charging now with the glass back?

Do we know battery size?

Even the midrange feels more interesting than flagships now (at least outside the US). Nokia has been killing it this year with what's essentially a Nexus "lite" line and Xiaomi has become a really strong contender jumping on the Android One bandwagon with some models and getting an actual official retail presence in Europe so no more gray market imports with missing LTE bands and "multilanguage" ROMs from god knows where that you have to manually overwrite just in case.

Xiaomi introducing a new subbrand 'POCO';

There's already an unboxing video of the Pocophone:

Spec wise it appears to be very similar to the Mi 8 (Snapdragon 845, 3D Facial Recognition, etc.), but with a headphone jack, a 4000mAh battery and metal instead of glass back.

Release is rumoured to be for September which suggests we might not see the Mi 8 outside of China.

Ugly ass phone, 4 GB of RAM, possibly steep price tag, still lacking headphone jack. Might as well cancel it and go straight to Pixel 4 line, but actually try and make something compelling.

The Mi 8 is indeed going to be released outside of China. It's in the official Spanish Mi Store (and others) to be released soon for 499€

Thinking about getting back into the Android game. Is it worth it to get a Pixel 2XL at this point or should I hold out for the 3? What's the messaging game like? Did Verizon ever implement RCS for Android messages? How's Pie compared to Oreo?

If you prioritize a good camera, the Pixel 2XL is your smartphone. But if you are looking for a device that delivers a good camera with a killer performance, than One Plus 6 might be a better choise.

A good camera is a must! Timely updates, also a must. Unfortunately, I don't believe the One Plus 6 is compatible with Verizon.

I'm more interested in what the Gear S4 is gonna bring vs the current S3 lineup.

I also wonder if the S3 line will get a software updsup with some of the S4 features.

I'd trade my S9 if Note 9 phone is enticing enough. I want that extra storage and battery

MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH

It seems like smartphones have hit a wall in terms of innovation or differentiation from its competition or even it's own product lines.

999 Euro for a BT pen, a bigger battery and an extra .1 inch.

Meh.

Or 999€ for a BT S-pen, a big battery, 1228 GB, 3.5 headphone jack, Samsung Pay SD slot, an amazing body to screen ratio and a 6.4-inch qHD state of the art AMOLED no notch ...

I would I want an in screen FPS but there's no other phone on the market as features packed as the Note

If you're looking for a new phone this will be one of the best if not the best option

S10 is supposed to change all that apparently so I'll wait for that instead.

I will not hold my breath on this

I agree

Samsung, for the longest time, was rumoured to be including an in-screen fingerprint sensor on the S9 and that never happened. I'm just gonna wait and see what they unveil, but I expect it to be an iterative update.

Note 9 AFAIK seems like it's unquestionably the most complete device; Bluetooth pen, one of if not the best S2B ratio, no notch, the best actual display, headphone jack, 8GB RAM, large storage plus a SD slot, dual cameras with one being variable aperture, iris and standard FP sensor, waterproofing, 4000mAh battery, metal/glass body. Did they forget something or...? I get that other devices have some of these features but are there any with all of them or is the issue that the actual design is iterative?

I just ordered a (lightly) used Gear S3 LTE on ebay for about $160, should get it on Monday.
Unless I hate how large it is and want the smaller Galaxy Watch, the new one doesn't seem like it's worth over double what I paid for this one.

They didn't announce the LTE price, they didn't confirm if it had the full card reader Samsung Pay functionality (there were rumors saying it would, but also that it wouldn't), and they didn't confirm what the smaller watch's battery life would be (its like half the capacity of the larger one).

Edit: Regarding Samsung Pay, I found this buried in the fine print on Samsung's website:
"Samsung Pay on the Galaxy Watch is compatible only with NFC-type payment terminals."

So I guess I'll stick with the S3, the magnetic strip stuff is kind of a selling point for me with Samsung Pay.

Lol I wonder who will still be stanning Google phone...what a joke. But I bet some will still defend stock Android and the pixel line..

Also, the Razer phone is the best performing phone I've ever owned(in relation to current technology)

After months of use, it never gave me a single hiccup and it performed like a beast. Having the first to have 8gig of ram really helped.
The battery is still excellent after many months. Also, the 120hz screen pretty much ruined other phones for me. Definitely will be getting the Razer phone 2 when it comes out.

But yeah, I got the Xperia xz2 premium like I said I would....
4k screen is beautiful, definitely high tier screen, not some low tier OLED garbage that some phone uses.
Battery life is Ok.
The phone is huge and kinda ugly, especially the chrome version. I wouldn't mine if they've kept the xz premium design.
Camera is actually good! Not some garbage like all Xperia phones.
The finger print location is stupid, why can't they just keep it to the side...
But yeah...phone ain't bad at all...

Immagine the Note 9 with an in-screen fingerprint........ maybe they are not doing it because of Samsung Pay

600€ of trade in value for a Note 8. I bought mine for 650€. I think that I will bite

Every rumor has strongly pointed to in screen fingerprint scanner being in the S10 series due to Samsung not thinking the tech was ready.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get the 128gb model with a 400gb SD card?
The 512 GB sku comes with 8GB RAM. The 128GB one comes with 6GB.

edit: On-board storage is normally significantly faster than expandable and can handle more writes AFAIK. Granted, you could in theory get that microSD card and start walking around with a 912GB phone.
