I'm wondering if they're going to add new megas to the game. From everything being shown so far the game seems lacking in something I can't quite put my finger on.

I suppose a Mega could improve some of them

Wow they really went out of their way to make this game really simple. How stupid do they think kids are?‍
to Game Freak, mobile games are to blame.

the same games that are much more complex than Pokemon, and more open to boot

GF keeps saying "2019 are for the long-time fans", but with the dumbass decisions they make here, it's hard to take their comments at face value. they dug themselves into this pit and now they have to crawl their way back up just to meet standards that were set years ago

I... I'm just baffled by this game. All sorts of shit they eschew for nostalgia's sake, but Mega Evolution is in. I don't think I like that.

Yeah, it's pretty puzzling. Steelix isn't included, Scizor isn't included, Magmortar isn't included... but fucking Mega Blastoise is? What is going on?

Meh, I don't think it looks that bad tbh. I get what you mean, but maybe knowing that it's a remake means it's fine in my head.

I hope if the next big Pokemon game (that's not a remake) is fully 3D, this won't be a thing anymore though. It should be like a 3D/360 degree proximity thing. Like if you get close enough no matter what direction you're coming from, they'll see you.

You don't really see the awkwardness of trainers standing still in front of a room with trash bins in a grid layout...? It was fine on GB but with more realistic proportion and 3D graphics it looks very weird and out of place.

Honestly, though, I'm kind of glad they settled on 'Innofensive' as the target sound for this game. I dig it. I'll take that over the "Throw everything in the song! So many layers of noise!" kind of garbo that they've been putting out the last few generations.

Yea I have high hopes for next year game, I really hope it's nothing like Pokemon let's go. Something better than even sun/moon; where you feel like you can actually explore the world.

Lt. Surge's "puzzle" looks really bad in 3D. I wish GF would have just reinvented the gym puzzle and try something new.

I always thought Mauville's puzzle was a massive upgrade on the rng shitfest that was Lt. Surge.

Mauville_Gym_RS.png

Makes me wonder why GF is so weird with the way they take liberties in a remake. I mean they overhauled Mauville to be a Mall in ORAS whereas the original was a small city, so clearly they've shown they can do it.

... It's a chubby mouse.

Doing it '' badass '' I think it's pretty ridiculous.

Come on, it has a lightning bolt as a tail and has pointy bat-like ears. Aesthetically it is meant to be ¨ëdgy¨ compared to Pikachu. Not to mention Lt. Surgeś Raichu in the anime acted like a badass.

I mean really....

If I never saw chibi art style again I think I'd be totally ok with it.

Music continues to be the best part of this game. Excited for that.

Megas being added is a shame. Wish they'd be retconed tbh. Sorry, just my thoughts.

there's nothing edgy about stump arms and winnie the pooh palette. He might have "acted like a badass" in the anime when we were much younger, but that's not supposed to officially represent Raichu in any way. By this logic Pikachu is the most badass pokemon in the anime by a long shot, having defeated multiple mega, evolved and pseudolegendaries with the odds against him.

"lightning bolt as a tail" is no different to Pikachu

These games still do not have a day/night cycle confirmed.

To be fair, what would be the point of a day/night cycle? There's no evolutions based on time of day, likely no berry spots to grow (considering Gen I never had berry spots), and no day/night exclusive Pokemon in the original 151. It's a stupid thing to cut out but I'm expecting it to be the case.

I wonder how Japan will feel about this game? I feel like they're going waaaaaaay too far to make it accessible. I hope there's blowback, because they usually make subsequent Pokémon games address the criticisms of the last games.

When we were younger? That is the impression they were trying to convey for Raichu and the way we perceive it now doesn´t change it. But in this game they should have at least made it a little closer to how Raichu appeared in the anime since it was so memorable.

It just makes Lt. Surge look like he has no edge. And please dont say something like ¨Well bobble-headed characters arent suppose to appear edgy¨, I mean he is a freaking army man Pokemon trainer.

Why is an army man considered edgy? Pokemon excels at eccentric archetypes and this is just one of many.

So mindlessly clicking trashcans was better?
I think it's less about how it is in comparison to the original and how it now, literally, isn't a puzzle anymore. There's a difference between making a game for kids (Guess what, Pokémon games already worked as kids games!) and making a game for people who never touched a controller in their lives.

¨Hey, kid! What do you think you're doing here? You won't live long in combat! That's for sure! I tell you kid, electric Pokémon saved me during the war! They zapped my enemies into paralysis! The same as I'll do to you!¨

His words to the trainer in the GB games. I rest my case.

All the trainers in Pokemon are similarly corny. Im not sure what your case is tbqh. "all my pokemon are rock hard" is about as hardcore as this lol

Actually, thinking about this again, if you can read well enough to get through this game you should not be dumb enough to need that already lame puzzle completely nullified. Both of my toddlers could complete this puzzle without knowing how to read. The hell are they doing? I mean honestly.

Maybe you think edgy is a young boy with hair in his face saying ¨Quiet weakling¨ lol, but Lt. Surge is edgy in the sense that he has been hardened from his experiences on the battlefield and is saying he´ll thrash his opponent.

The artstyle is bland and an absolute crapfest. I wanted to revisit jhoto in 3d since I first played red and blue in my young days.
Not like this.

a grown man telling a 10 yr old hes going to zap him into paralysis is totally serious and edgy...
its typical themed Pokemon trainer banter, just like the fighting type trainers walking around in their karate gi and saying things like how they'll beat you into submission.

In the continuing adventures of making the enemy trainers weaker.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mt._Moon

XicVVYY.jpg

Jesse and James now have a Level 12 Ekans and Koffing, down from a Level 14 Ekans, Koffing and Meowth (Meowth just straight up disappeared from the fight).

I be slightly fair to this fight, this could be the first Doubles Fight in the game, so they needed to make it easier accordingly to introduce the concept of doubles the player. The movesets seem updated accordingly as Ekans uses Acid over Poison Sting to hit both enemies.

DlqgSWF.jpg

I have nothing positive to say on this Rocket though. A Rocket with only a Level 9 Zubat. in previous games, the very first Rocket you fought had a Level 11 Sandshrew, Ratatta and Zubat. The second a level 12 Zubat and Level 12 Ekans. All the rockets had at least 2 pokemon in their team in Mt. Moon, doesn't look like that's continuing in Let's Go.

A Level 9 Zubat is actually weaker than the Wild Zubats you could find in the Last Floor of Mt. Moon (They were level 10 minimum at that point).

Difficulty nerf still seems in play.

Do we know if levelling is as fast as it used to be? rematching trainers might be the only way to grind levels now.
For all we know, couldn't the levels have been readjusted to fit the new level curve rather than being comparatively weaker?

With those seemingly completely plane faces and rather chibi style the character models are beyond ugly.

Still no proper Hydro Pump animation either.

This is the problem when choosing to remake 1:1 the original game.

This layout and trainers standing still in the middle of the gym were ok on GB because of technical limitations. Now they look totally non-sense. They could have reworked the gyms while being faithful to the original idea.

The fake gym in Ultra Sun/moon didn't look this dumb.
