My hope is it'll at least run better than the base PS4 version on my aging 3570k (OC'd to 4.2Ghz) and 970GTX. Not holding out hope for 1440p or anything.

Max everything are generally really bad real word performance benchmarks anyway. Just turn 3 taxing effects down from Ultra to High, you don't see much difference and suddenly you have double the FPS (exaggerated and generalized obviously, but you get the idea). Some effects really can be extremely taxing and it doesn't automatically mean they are badly optimized.

Not to be critical of the person you quoted... but this game is NOTHING like Diablo. There's no top down camera, no randomized dungeons, no random gear drops with random stats, no exp system, no skill unlocks... I just can't see where he got this comparison from.

He did say that while the gameplay is very different the loop is similar, as in I assume farm current level enemy to be able to fight next level enemy so you can farm gear for nextnext level enemy.

I think I can very much live with that as long as the actual fighting is fun. Which MH's seems to be, while I find Diablo incredibly boring.

It's not like that, a set of equipment can last you quite a long while.

The last MH I played before MHW was Portable 3rd on PSP and I went through the entire story mode with about two sets of armor, that I didn't put much effort into getting.

At its core MH is a deep action game that is very much about skill, which is why you will often see players play 'naked' without armor (which they used to do well before Souls was a thing).

You just made me very hyped. Good thing I've only been actively waiting for the pc release for less than a day :)

Kinda? I feel that's the gameplay loop for a majority of non puzzle games. Also, instead of killing one enemy to advance to the next, you have a spread of bosses you can kill. So instead of farming A to kill B, you're farming A - J to get stronger enough to fight K - R and so forth.

Really ? How so ? I want to play with a friend tonight, do we have to join the same Steam group ?
If its the same as ps4/xbox then multiplayer coop works like this :

When you enter the hub a new session id is created. If you want to invite a friend to your session you have to give him your session id.

Now in the gathering hall you can create a clan. Being in a clan means all members have the same session id when you enter the clans session, its a lesser hassle.

At the 11th hour, a friend of mine has gifted me the money to pre-order the game and I can pay him back at a later date. So, I'm all-in to play! Got a 1070GTX, so I'm aiming for 1080p at 60fps with High. That'll do me just fine.

On the console version you can also just join a friend's session directly from the system menu if they're in a public session, you don't need to share a code or go to a private session. No word on whether the PC version will work the same way, but Steam does have the ability to let you join a friend's game from the friend list if the game supports it.

30+fps/1080p max settings with a 970 sounds fine imo,i expected worse tbh.

If you look at the chart that shows how high vs. max impacts FPS, I think it may well be possible to tweak some things around and get a nice high frame rate.

It's fine when they put in settings that even current cards can't really handle all that well at high resolutions. Don't need to max everything. Sometimes stuff like that is more for the future.

So you basically need a GTX 1080 for constant 60fps on Max Settings in Full HD...
oof

Some of the settings are down to personal preference though. Shadow quality is unrealistically sharp on higher settings, Volume Rendering Quality makes the lighting look a bit better, but also washes out all of the colors; both are quite taxing and probably not worth it unless you have a beastly rig.

Is there some kind of thing in World that is advisable to start doing from the very beginning? Like collecting honey in the older games, so you always had enough for mega pots (until you got your farm going anyway).

Spend Armor Sphere and Armor Sphere+ when progressing through the main story. No pint in saving them as they are replaced by more powerful Armor Sphere later in the game.

Can you just go online and look for a random group to join mid session or in the lobby(if there is one) or can you only do co-op by grouping up via Steam groups?

Yes you can do that, in fact majority of random matchmaking happen using the SOS flare system (for better or worse).

I usually just create my own session, and if I'm looking to hunt specific monster, I either post one myself, depart on the hunt then shoot SOS flare, a few minutes later 3 people joined the hunt. Or search for an already ongoing hunt (the host shoots SOS flare) and join it.

Hmmm. I getting a bit worried about my i5 4690 not doing so well in this game.

You'd think CPU would have little impact in a console port but apparently not.

but they're not telling us definitively so we cannot make an informed decision...they keep stating that they 'might' release one:

Right, so why wait for a possible texture update that may never arrive? You can enjoy the game right now. I put a decent amount of time into the PS4 version and never thought it was a bad looking game, in fact, some parts look pretty damn nice.

it may never arrive but it also may arrive and will be the best way to play the game- improved graphics + MH gameplay...if given the choice you would want to play with both if possible...if I put in 200+ hours into the game now then I most likely will not want to go through the entire game again if the graphics patch is released...

You'd rather choose the possibility of better textures over a more active multiplayer scene and engaging the content as it is added rather than later when the community is far ahead?

Is there much chance they will work on optimization down the road, or is it going to run like this forever? Pretty unfortunate performance it looks like.

The steam group thing is more or less clans. You can still play with randoms or invite specific people to your instance etc.
I see. But as I understand it, you can't actually search people by name, right? So if you want to play with your friend, you need to be in the same clan, right? Or the alternative is by inviting them manually to your session by sharing codes.

the MP scene will still be active 3-6 months from now...how does the community being far ahead matter when there's not any level based matchmaking?

where is the current cheapest place to purchase? No longer on Voidu it seems. Seems Fanatical is sold out too.

After some searching I think the answer is Gamersgate.

Engaging the content when it is fresh usually makes it less likely you'll get carried by people who have long since mastered said content or have sets from later content releases that have too-powerful bonuses (power creep, I'm looking at you Behemoth).

There will likely be less people playing LR and easily HR quests who are appropriately geared and skilled.

That's not to say you won't have anyone to play with, but it'll probably be a different experience.

You can invite friends directly on PS4 with psn, no need to share the id room. MH PC supports steamworks so I'm 99% sure you'll be able to simply invite your friend via the steam friend list into your instance.

the Nvidia benchmark wasn't maxed out tho. It was on high preset.

Cool, that should be easy then. Thanks.

wtf does volumetric rendering do? and how will it look if I have it off?
It adds important effects and you wouldn't want to turn it off. You may want to turn it down to high or medium and see how the game runs.

I think I'm going to wait a day or two before buying this game. See if it works well performance-wise. I'm also too busy with Yakuza 0 at the moment

I have a 1080ti with my 6700k.

I would buy an 8700k but now way am I buying a new motherboard and going through the hassle of re-configuring the whole god damn thing. 6700k should be plenty fine, it's still a very strong cpu -_-

So, which gender has the best looking armor sets this time around? I usually play a male character but might switch it up this time.
