This is going to be my first Monster Hunter as a pretty much PC-only guy. Pretty stoked to hunt some monsters and make armour out of them! I think that I'm going to try using the insect glaives. The aerial acrobatic melee seems pretty cool along with the mounting mechanics.

Hmm. I do wonder what modding will do to the online play. Would be kinda lame if some dude ends up OHKO'ing what should be extremely challenging monsters. Having a cool weapon or armor set and having really earned that is part of the appeal.

Why no one should complain about poorly optimized effect? Which remains in console version and works alright?

It's not that poorly optimized, and you don't need to turn it completely off, unless you're running a lower end card. The console version didn't "work alright" in comparison since it ran at a fluctuating 30fps even in performance mode. On a GTX 1080, you can keep a locked 60fps at 1440p with it set to medium (which AFAIK is what the consoles used anyway).

Can I get 4k60 with a 1080ti and some settings reduced? also did they fix HDR for the pc version or is it still shit like on console?

I shall start with a ranged weapon this time since I have never done that before, always started with a melee weapon.

I really enjoy the bow, but it think I'll use the HBG since I have never used it and it would make it a fresher experience.

Do we have those big charts for lots of cards yet. Mine is pretty low end nowadays and I'm concerned about running this even at minimum settings. I have a 760.

On the PS4 Pro, it's around high.

Woo, it's almost here.

Not being able to transfer my 200 hour character from my Xbox is kind of bumming me out though, so I'm trying to talk a friend into picking it up so we can co-op and make the time pass quicker. I've almost got them to pull the trigger.

I went back to MH4U and put another few hundred hours into it, with twitch on in the background, during the console release to stop me from buying a PS4 just for MHW.

Pre-purchase complete, finally it's within reach!

If anyone wants to form a hunting party or needs help, hit me up. Lance/CB main, 3U and 4U vet. UK based.

New hunters who are looking to co-op; have a peruse at the following link for some good tips on co-op etiquette:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunter/comments/95gk6s/a_new_hunters_guide_to_coop_etiquette/

There can be a lot of (often obscure) info to take in when coming to Mon Hun, but don't worry, the community is great and love to help! It's definitely worth it to read/ask/watch to get some of the finer points down. I played more than 30 hours of my first before I learnt how armour skills worked because I didn't bother!

Good youtubers to watch for info when starting out (and more experienced!) are Gaijin Hunter and Arrekz Gaming.

Also, a good discord worth joining for help/LFG: https://discord.gg/zk9Xn4A

Most importantly, get out there and start smashing faces and chopping tails!

Man, salty as hell that I had to cancel my pre-order last week because of financial reasons. Hopefully won't be too far behind the community as a whole when I can finally pick this up in a month or two, although I'll be missing out on that pre-order attack-charm.

I presume those early missions that no-one will want to go back to help with are going to be okay for me solo in?

So this is the oldest patch ? can you still do the deco dup exploit? Fuck having to farm for the attack deco again.

If you're talking about story missions, then yes, they're basically designed for solo. Also, mission difficulty scales depending on you're doing it solo or in a party.

Yes, this is the oldest patch. The only thing that'll start from vanilla is the content.

Is there an autosave of some sort since its an online game?
The game normally autosaves (can be switched off) everytime you finish/fail a quest. Then, there are a couple of mandatory saves when posting hunting investigations (they are limited) and when melding feystones (won't see this 'till endgame).

So I could actually run in the risk of losing something if i dont save everytime I'm closing the game?

Is this game any fun to play solo?
I played the entire thing solo on xbox and loved it, only occasionally jumping into games (which is SUPER easy with how the searching works, and you don't really need to talk to anyone if you do).

only if it was in the hub, since you save anyway when the missions end. Like, on console if I crafted something and then shut my system off, I'd have to recraft it when I turned it back on. I also just manually saved a lot out of habit.

Sometimes i wonder what makes this game fun. It is a grinding game where it doesnt have any stakes.

But

When i tried it for the first time, it is indeed fun. This is one of those games that i keep coming back despites of my friends have moved on except they also haven't. If you are in doubt with this game, you should not. Sometimes the monsters are annoying though in a way that why do they keep coming at me? Regardless this game is recommended

how many total monster bosses are there to kill in this game?...the fact that they were able to keep each encounter unique and not feel repetitive is a testament to the developers

30.

Don't assume there aren't some repeats later on though.

is that including the DLC?...so each monster fight is not unique and there are some repetitive ones?...are there any more major free DLC's scheduled to be released in the future (new ones not the ones already released for console and delayed on PC)?

Hell yeah! Haven't played any Monster Hunter since the very first PSP game, but have always been interested in the series. Got my copy ready to go...after downloading for a thousand years that is...

It's not including DLC. There's like 4 DLC monsters on console so far, with probably another 2 known ones in the pipe.

There's for sure going to be more DLC, we just don't know how much or which monsters.

I wish Capcom would definitively state whether or not a high-res texture pack is coming for PC...for me that'll push this over the top into must-buy territory...having people put in 200+ hours and then releasing the high-res pack seems silly...same way Fallout 4 released their HD texture pack a year or so after its initial release

A few of the monsters are subspecies of other ones that have different AI and more dangerous attacks.

I'm looking for info on this too. The game does apparently have Steam Workshop support, so I'm sure we'll get some sort of enhancements by either Capcom or modders.

Planning to run home for lunch to start the download so it'll be good to go when I get off in the afternoon. Still haven't decided which weapons to use primarily at the start but gonna start with a bow. Optimistic that there aren't hiccups that go too late after the scheduled time.

I recommend watching some tutorial guide (either gaijinhunter or Arekkkz) first for Insect Glaive. It's probably the most noob-trap-y weapon with people often neglecting the entire 'Insect' part of the weapon, and only spamming jumping attack.

30 is from base game, currently there are 4 free update monsters for console. According to the leak (accurate so far), 2 more monsters left.

Plan to go hard on the hunting horn tomorrow. Did that on a second playthrough on PS4, only thing that really sucks about it is the inability to cut off tails. Hadn't touched parties in that one, maybe I should do that for this to help that.

The hilt-thrust moves do cutting damage, just saying >.<

so no paid DLC is planned?...everything post-launch will be free?

So far no, except for 'cosmetic' and emote. The predicition is there will be a huge paid expansion that adds new monsters, new maps, new difficulty tier, new monsters, etc like the Ultimate version of previous titles.

Also don't expect all monsters to be unique from each other. Monsters from same class typically shares same basic moveset and animation.

Third time getting this. Hope my system is up to the task.

Time to see if the PC crowd are arseholes about weapon selection as well.
