I only played a bit of MH4 on 3DS and did not progress much. What is the weapon recommendation if you want to not comsume stamina too fast and move a bit faster in combat? I think I used a really large sword on MH4 and I was out of stamina after 2 swings ^^' (I'm so bad at this game....)
Sword and shield. The backwards hop is the only move that consumes stamina, and you move faster by virtue of instant sheathing. Seriously, you can just be sprinting whenever you're not attacking.

I'm thinking about picking this up for me and my girl...just a few questions as a complete Monster Hunter noob (this would be the first in the series I'd play):

-Is this a good game to play coop with 1 other player consistently?
-Any recommendations on class/weapons to be used among a 2 player party, class/weapon-wise?
-I'm assuming this is best played with a controller? I have a PS4 controller and xbox 360 controller, but have never set up my PS4 bluetooth on my PC. Is that hard to do? Is PS4 controller recommended?

What's a good weapon to use if I was a Hammer main on PS4? I liked the mobility and the DPS the hammer offered. Thinking Switch Axe but bow seems interesting as well.

Any Charged Blade users? Got any tips? I've read it's the toughest weapon in the game to master. Sounds like fun to me. I guess the real question that follows though is if the weapon is ultimately worth the time and effort?

Charge Blade is my main along with GS. Got to HR 80 with CB and switched to GS once I tasted it's power and rode it to HR100. The name of the game is executing a "Super Amped Elemental Discharge" or SAED. I would write an extended guide to use it, but this video does the job well enough:

Charge blade is incredibly fun and rewarding. The gameplay loop is attacking, storing, charging and going all out on the SAED. It can be hard to learn, since its easy to miss with it, but it is so satisfying to hit. Charging the sword isn't required to perform the SAED, but when charged your sword does not bounce at all. Skills like Focus allow you to build phials quicker and make the gameplay loop much quicker.

It is sick.

What are the chances the widescreen community is able to force 21:9. I've logged enough hours into the ps4 version that I can either wait for a patch or workaround.

It's great for consistent 2-player coop. It'll be that little bit more challenging since you'll have multiplayer-buffed monsters for only two players, but you can always SOS in a third and fourth if you need.

Weapon-wise, every weapon is viable and easy to try out in World. Just work your way through low rank with a bunch of combinations and see which ones you both like. The game doesn't punish you for experimentation.

Can't answer the PS4 one because I use an Xbox One controller, sorry.

Looking forward to getting my hands on my first MH, watched a friend play it on PS4 and it looked fun.

Anyone else doing the Adopt-a-Hunter thing? Seems like a cool concept.

Kind of worried about performance with a gtx 1080, just switched to a new 4k monitor. New nvidia cards need to be amazing.

New players to the series should know that every weapon is viable! The game rewards skilled play more than weapon choice. Learn your choosen weapon, learn the game mechanics, and learn the monsters attacks and patterns and you can dominate with any weapon you choose to play. Its great fun with a group of to play entirely solo or a combination of the 2.

so it's pretty much confirmed that if you turn off that Volume Rendering setting, then the game runs well right??

and that setting actually makes the game look worse anyway?

Can't wait!! And to all you newbies take your time and soak in the game.

Any recommendation for a starter weapon?
Sword and Board, Dual Blades, and Long Sword are all easy to use, fast, and rewarding. Frankly I would just choose what you think you will like. There is a training area in the game to test out all the weapons so take some time and explore the options. Stuff like the Lance may seem boring compared to other weapons but every weapon is surprisingly fun.

Why are you worried about performance with the best card currently available? I mean, I suppose if you're trying to run silky smooth 4k that might be a difficult target to reach but still.

This is my first ever Monster Hunter game so I'm super excited to finally try it out. I have no idea what I'm doing, but hopefully it won't be too difficult to pick things up.

I wanted to start with the long sword but found out that it's the most popular weapon. For some reason I don't want to use the weapon that everyone else uses :(

No. Launch PC version will have launch console version of content. Then they'll roll out the updates gradually. However, all of the updates are already applied (fixes and stuff).

That makes my purchasing decision easier. I stopped playing this on my Pro not because of the framerate and loading times, but because I was bored of the base content. In a year or so maybe there will be enough new content that it will be worth purchasing at a discounted price.

I wish we could preload. My internet is so slow and steam unlocks games late in the day for me so I won't be able to play it until the next day :(

Absolutely delightful, the game is very modding friendly in terms of how it handles files. No need to repack the weird chunk files basically just drag and drop your modded files in the right location. :)

I'll refrain from posting any screenshots before release because of the hypocritical pseudo white knights the MH community suffers from in regards to that but rest assured, it has potential.

So Pokemon skins for the monters is possible, eventually?

What an odd statement...I've never noticed anything like that, but then again I'm not exactly sure what you mean or are talking about.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing screenshots though.

I laughed more than I should have at the title.

*breathes heavily* must...not...double...dip...but 4k60fps....aaaaarghhhh

I did, but not getting 4K/60 yet. I was hoping that either Nvidia would have released their new cards by now, or the game had released in another two months. I played it on the Pro in "performance" mode anyway, so this is still a huge upgrade.

Also not making the same mistake I made when I originally played it. I started out using the bow. For the first ten to twenty hours, the longsword is so much faster.

so will there be a midnight release?

Unless this was wrong, or things have changed, no. The release times were nonsensical, like 8AM tomorrow at the earliest.

edit: OP has the times.
