"We're pretty upset at how effective Republicans have been at gutting the Democrats that we're just gonna give up and let the nazis win."

Not saying this is a Russian troll account, but if it was that would be a message it might run with. Not a good look either way, though I completely understand the frustration such a perspective is rooted in. (Which is why it could be effective at depressing turnout)

That WA-3 change is hot

Sabato ratings changes

KS-03: Lean R → Toss Up
MI-11: Toss Up → Lean D
NJ-11: Toss Up → Lean D
NY-27: Safe R → Likely R
PA-17: Toss Up → Lean D
PA-07: Toss Up → Lean D
WA-03: Safe R → Lean R
WA-05: Lean R → Toss Up

beaten like Danny O'Connor, oh well

By my count that gives us 11 GOP-held seats Sabato and crew think we're likely to pickup, minus 1 (Lamb's "old" seat) that will flip to the GOP for a net of 10.

If we split the tossups down the middle that gives us +27 seats for a 222-213 majority
Awesome.

More importantly, whether or not the person amplifying the divisive tweets (if resonant point!), let us all acknowledge that it is KNOWN that Russia is conducting division campaigns around race literally as we speak. We can/should be wary of this particular person because they are amplifying those messages, but we should also point these things out via the flag system. Not just bitching about it in subsequent posts and then getting frustrated when mods have no idea wtf we're complaining about after it happens the 20th time.

The more he pounds this "red wave" no u idiocy the stupider he's going to look in November. Explicitly setting up expectations among his fans not simply of "We survived the midterms with our majorities" but of making huge gains...somehow.

Carry on.

So something good came out of calling my dad to bitch about my mom: He voted! He is extremely apolitical and doesn't always vote except for major elections. It's a pretty big win for me. I assume he voted for O'Connor. :)

Kinda surprised they had WA-3 as safe R given that a lot of the population are basically in the Portland suburbs. Any Republicans who need decent numbers in the 'burbs are at risk this year.
I think most analysts recognized that it was competitive on paper, but it was only the primary that demonstrated Herrera-Butler was legitimately vulnerable.

Anyway, here we go. THE CHART

So I realized I made a miscalculation - Sabato rates 202 seats as Lean D or better for the Democrats, compared to 199 as Lean R or better for the Republicans, and 34 Tossups.

Split down the middle it's actually 219-216. But still, you'd expect one party to win the lion's share of Tossups rather than dividing evenly.

I've long been a advocate of venting frustrations at a lack of representation by, uhh, removing yourself entirely from the process in which you are represented.

Somebody please tell every woman who has ever shared a MeToo story that the solution is to actually be quiet too

Is this chart updated with today's ratings?

I've given you the benefit of the doubt for as long as you've been shitting up this thread with your asinine, sophomoric hot takes, thinking that you're heart's in the right place. But you're either a troll or a fool. There's folks like Benton and Sphagnum who I don't always agree with but respect and appreciate because they back their shit up and can have a fucking conversation without looking like a 15 year old who just read the Cliffs Notes of Das Kapital. Your ass just wants to sew division in this thread and in this community, and quite frankly you need to stop acting a fool or leave, because you routinely contribute nothing to this thread but hostility. You want to talk about the issues that the Democrats have with race? Fine. Do so. There are things we can do better on. But when I spend 12 hours every weekend working on community programs for underprivileged black kids in my hometown, the last thing I want to see is some little shit in this thread making light of my work. I'm done.

I'm extremely worried about the Manafort trial, because the judge seems extremely impartial. biased.

He's berating the Mueller team for not addressing him well enough, looking them in the eyes, saying they're frustrated and "crying". That they're not interested in Mr. Manafort, but how it could lead to a Trump impeachment.

It's all so scary.

Edited because of poor word choice.

Just a couple of points on this. Bear in mind that Ellis is a bit of a 'character' of a judge, and the sort of intervention we are seeing here is not unusual for him. He is interested in getting the trial to run cleanly and, like any judge, does not want to be overturned on appeal.

Beware reporting bias. In the pre-trial transcripts he was equally mean to both sides, and indeed it was Judge Ellis who rather pointedly suggested to Mueller's team that they should have a prosecutor who was familiar with him and his court - which is why Ugo Usonye is on the prosecution team.

Be aware that most of what he is reported as saying has been said outside the hearing of the jury.

He's looks like he's being mean to the prosecution at the moment because it is the prosecution that is presenting its case. I expect him to be a bit difficult with the defense when it is their turn if they veer off into irrelevancies or attempt to play surprise games. (For example, I expect that he will have to remind the defense more than once that it is not Gates who is on trial).

Even then, it will look like he is being relatively lenient with the defence - partly because we are biased as to the outcome and partly because in a criminal case the defense does get more leeway - it is the nature of the beast.

But so far as I can tell, although he is a more interesting judge than many, he's not biased.

Plus, why are you worried? Unless you are related to Manafort, let justice take its course.

Strike that last line (I'd do it myself if I could work out how to do it on this forum), that was unfair. What I mean to say is something along the lines of this: we are so accustomed, through Supreme Court cases mostly, to measuring the judiciary along partisan lines, that maybe we forget that there's a whole bunch of judges at the trial level doing their darn best to keep the wheels of justice turning and we are maybe too ready to see partisan bias where there isn't necessarily any.

I don't understand why people don't use the ignore feature on trolls in this thread and instead respond to trolls. You are making the problem worse by not ignoring them.

I've tended to give people in this thread the benefit of the doubt for the most part. I've got a few of the resident trolls ignored now.

I can only speak on my feelings and my feelings is that the Dems do take our votes for granted. Your work is noble and I appreciate that, but I have seen many, many times cities ran by Democrats hurt the black population. I've seen their policies affect my family and friends. There is a real resentment there that should not go ignored and yes, I'm frustrated with the party. When I see black people make the suggestion that they might not vote democratic, Dems threaten them with GOP rule instead of asking how they can do better. Again, you're doing noble work, but I feel that the party as a whole is only taking us for granted.
