Blakes point got lost in his tone, it was failry confrontational and accusatory.

Alos I find it funny people argued, including Rasmussen, it's impossible to track individual deck performance in a team event. As if it weren't very easy to add a MU and results chart to the match slip and track those, including incomplete matches and the record thereof at the time.

I thought his tone was fine it was SO who made it weird by doing the whole "why am I the bad guy" routine. SO must've thought the same thing since he posted that he spoke with Blake in private and apologized to him.

If MTG tournaments are anything like other Twitch tournaments there's already someone out there collecting all this data and probably preserving it in a publicly-available format anyway.

Like I can tell you exactly every champion that was played in a game day of League of Legends on a random June Sunday five years ago, and I don't need Riot's help to do it, fans just document this stuff obsessively.
Those are usually supported by APIs and replay files published by the company though. I don't know of any resurce of the sort w/ mtg. mtgtop8 and mtggoldfish do some meta tracking and store the data published by WotC and LGS but both only have final standings and top 8 brackets not detailed matchup data.

Wotc has actively shut down publication of data scraping.

Hearthstone can survive despite HSReplay.net being a thing. For somebody only familiar with the level of data available in MTG I would imagine a site like that would blow their everloving mind.

The problem with the data restrictions with MTG is that it can create misconceptions. It's like when WotC revealed that chainwhirler decks weren't actually the highest winning decks on MTGO but it was obviously the most played deck in the meta. Instead of a meta that's based on reality, the meta shapes based on perception. The meta is totally defined based on 5-0 in leagues and the top tables at tournaments. It's not like the meta is better b/c of this.

The main problem with the data restrictions is that they're unnecessary, and the lack of necessity itself creates the perception of impropriety, whether it exists or not. That's why people get so gung-ho for transparency.

Like in the best case scenario it makes it feel patronizing when they communicate with players on issues--"Hey, we know you guys think Copycat is a problem, but you can't see all the data we can so don't you worry your precious little heads about it"--and in the worst case scenario it gives the impression they're actively trying to deceive players to manipulate the metagame, for whatever bizarre reason. (To make it look healthier than it actually is? To push sales of under-performing sets? To protect a competitive advantage for sponsored teams? I don't even know why you'd do this but I can almost guarantee you shouldn't and trying would be stupid.) It's just fostering ill-will for no potential gain.

With this green black standard Stompy list going around I'm curious on everyone's opinion of a blue splash rather than black to run 2 Negate and 2 Commit//Memory instead of the scrapheap. I've tried both and maybe I'm missing something but the black splash isn't doing too much for me.

A large part of MTG's card economy depends on a metagame without one dominant deck. $100 JTMS is the nightmare scenario.

I need help with some mana fixing, well, how many basics i should run in my Sliver EDH. I finally got ahold of the 10 shock lands i wanted and 5 fetch lands so my current land base is looking like this
10x shock lands
5x fetch lands (+5 of the panorama fetch lands)
5x Battlebond lands
5x Dominaria dual lands
1x command tower
1x Unclaimed Territory
1x Exotic Orchard
1x Maze of Ith (might cut)
1x Strip Mine (might cut)

I also run all the signets, Darksteel, mana vault, sol ring etc. etc. I'm new to making my own EDH as i usually just upgraded pre-cons but i have been slowly building up and buying cards to make my dream Sliver EDH (Slivers is my favorite tribe fight me) and my friend group doesn't use a whole lot of dick cards that screw everyone over land/mana wise but some people at the shop and i will keep a force of will and a few counter-spells in my deck to avoid creature/land wipes but i don't have a good idea of how many lands and how many basics. I want to say 38-40 lands and at least 3x of each basic so

TLDR: should i cut some of these lands and put 15 basics in? 3x of each? Run 38,40,42 lands?

What's your average cmc? Do you have a list on Tapped Out or someplace we could look? My gut says no more than 38 just because I find unless you're super mana hungry or have a land gimmick you rarely need more than that.
As for potential additions, Fellwar stone is a cheap mana rock that can really shine in five color. Coalition relic is also a very important inclusion.
Have you considered path of ancestry?

I am working on a list right now. I'm just completing the non-land portion.

Should i be worried about running basics at all? 1x of each, 2x of each? My gut tells me to run at least 2-3x of each.

If by panorama fetches you mean the alara ones I say cut them and replace with basics. I just don't think they have the right power level in five color. If possible I think 3 basics of each color is a good start, as that helps you not be completely blown out by ghost quarter, ruination, tempt with discovery, or back to basics (which hopefully no one is evil enough to run in your playgroup). Don't forget Mana Confluence and City of Brass. Those are autoincludes in 5 color. Maybe cut the Dominaria lands for them and more basics?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/slivers-v05-1/

This is a rough list of what i am working with so far. I plan on maybe cutting a few slivers to add some other stuff and my 99th slot might be Survival of the Fittest. It's currently 99 because it's also counting my commander. I'm fine cutting the Dominaria lands for 1x each basic to make it 4x but the reason i don't have battlebond lands on the list is becuase they are pointless when i am not doing multiplayer games.

Again, it's rough, it's my first EDH and my first magic deck i have built in probably 15 years. All critism and suggestions is highly welcomed and i super appreciate all the feedback and help anyone gives me.

EDIT- I am currently thinking about removing signits and a few other cards and putting in Farseek, Swansong, Enlightened Tutor, Demonic Tutor (Maybe Mystical?) and throwing in direct removal like Swords and Utter end. Possibly throw in a NAture's Lore for extra ramp and a Twilight's Call for extra protections towards board wipes.

Okay so after taking a peak I have a few suggestions for cuts and replacements.

- Amoeboid Changeling. This card just doesn't really do anything in your deck unless you have Sliver Overlord out. If you really like this synergy make Overlord your commander, or else cut it.
- Dormant Sliver seems counter-intuitive? Sure you can draw a lot of cards but then you have to spend some of your own removal to get rid of it so you can win. Clunky, and there are much better card draw options. Cut it.
-Basal Sliver gets you mana which is nice, but it is only black. You don't have more black costs than other costs, so it seems unnecessary. I would cut it.
-Plated Sliver just doesn't do enough to justify running, imo. I never run glorious anthem and that card gives a better buff and is harder to remove. If you really want more of this effect, maybe consider Spear of Heliod or Radiant Destiny?
-Not really feeling Victual Sliver. Life gain is pretty low impact in EDH unless you have a deck that uses it to win or to drain. Plus you have to spend 2 mana and sac the creature to get only 4 life. Eeesh.
-Twilight's Call seems overly expensive and could bite you in the ass. I would recommend maybe trying out Thrilling Encore instead. It is one-sided, cheaper, and is a huge blowout after a board wipe.
-Dismember is okay, but you are in five colors, there is almost always a better option! Anguished Unmaking can cost the same, and gets rid of any nonland permanent forever.
-Counterspell is fine, but because I think you really need more card draw in general (maybe add Rhystic Study or Phyrexian Arena?) I would replace it with Arcane Denial.
-I see the synergy with Mana Echoes and if you already own one then great, but I think the card tends to work better in a combo-oriented finisher, and you don't really have much of a use for the extra mana outside of occasionally using activated abilities, which seems too situational. I would just hesitate before buying an expensive card unless you really think it is going to shine in the deck.

Other than that I think you have a promising start here. I would really add in coalition relic and path of ancestry though. Because of your lack of card draw, the scry could be really helpful.

My Arena seems to be broken. For the past couple of weeks I seem to have had what feels like a 10% win rate on BO1. Most hands are mulligans, it's as if the hand generator algorithm is reversed. Three land hands are the rarest even though math says there should be a 50% chance of getting one with my land count (22-24).

There's no problem in BO3, it plays like normal Magic. I'm currently doubting if it's even worth sending in a bug report because of the amount of people crying wolf on the forums.

Anecdotally, I've also noticed an unusual amount of two land hands in BO1. 24 lands in my deck. Without actually tracking the data, though, it doesn't mean much (and even with data, it's questionably useful.)

Anymore Slivers i could cut? I'll be looking into getting and added the cards. Also, thanks for the feedback i appreciate it.

lmao I played a Windgrace Acolyte in Arena and instead of the monster sound I heard a cats meaow. The next time I played one it was just the cat but lowered down and slowed lol. I guess that's one way to make a cool sound effect for a monster.

Magic Story - Chronicle of Bolas: Perspectives
Kate Elliott

Nicol Bolas gives his own account of history to Naiva . . . and makes her an offer.

* Naiva tries to buy time by talking to Bolas about Ugin. It works and he tells her about their history from his perspective, making himself look better all throughout. In particular, he denies that they are twins, and insists that Ugin didn't spark until later and he was just hiding until he popped up between him and Arcades.
* When Ugin mysteriously disappears after mocking Bolas, he claims that he was so angry he ended up sparking. He finds himself in the Meditation Realm, an artificial plane with an unknown creator.
* Despite their conflict, Bolas thought it was only right to share this new knowledge with Ugin.
* By the time Bolas came back to Dominaria, the Elder Dragon War had long ended, with only THE elder dragons remaining.
* Bolas asks Arcades about Ugin, but he claims he never saw Ugin at the battle he suddenly appeared at. Arcades suggests that he only saw Ugin out of guilt. Out of annoyance, Bolas plants the idea that his subjects will betray him into mind and leaves Dominaria.
* He finds Ugin at the Meditation Realm. For no apparent reason, Ugin attacks him and they battle across planes for generations.
* Eventually, they end up back at the Meditation Realm, where Bolas kills Ugin. This has an odd effect, cracking the connections between planes, and Bolas is cast down to Dominaria on the island chain of Madara, weakened.
* Bolas never lost a fight after that, at all.

* Bolas asks where Ugin is, and Naiva says he died. Bolas thought the same before, but Ugin somehow returned constantly, most recently with his dumb Ixalan plan.
* Naiva tells him that Ugin's bones are below the hedrons, but Bolas can't seem to see them. He instead supposes from the way Ugin's falling body cleaved the canyon that he could be here.
* Bolas tells Naiva that if she doesn't help him, he'll destroy the entire plane. He stirs up her discontent and jealousy, and tells her to bring Yasova to him. He just wants to talk to her, not to hurt her.
* Eventually Naiva gives in and goes into the tomb. She holds a knife to her sister's neck.

I wonder if removing Competitive Constructed from Arena is the right call long term. I certainly haven't been playing it but mostly because I don't care about what I do with my account since it will be wiped. If folks are serious about gaining cards I think CC offered the best EV if you could do well.

Momir looks hilarious based on the very short reading I have done about what that thing is.
Pauper also sounds like it will be fun, but mostly because everyone will be scrambling to find the best deck much in the way that Singleton was. I bet if they keep Pauper around too long everyone will figure it out and it will get boring.

No. There will still be BO3 ladder (and competitive draft)—they're just removing the competitive constructed event (which you pay to sign up for, then play until you hit a certain threshold of wins/losses).

Silly question for non English players : I have sets of cards not in English, and I'm trying to sort them out (by set, then WUBRG - golden - artifacts - lands) but by category should I sort them alphabetically (and not corresponding to the card number like in English) or by card number ? Thanks

The way i do my cards is
English 1 800ct longbox per set in WUBRG (by name sorted with 4x of each common/uncommon/cards rares/mythings $5under)
English Double long box for commander specific bulk cards in WUBRG alphabetically
Foreign i have 2 800ct long boxes by WUBRG alphabetical. I don't like mixing english with non-english because i play with a lot of casual friends who don't have a enclypedia knoledge of cards.

I find doing it by WUBRG in alphabetical because it's easier to sort through when searching for a specific card. I'm a very neat and organized person so i like things in a specific order. Order it the way it's easiest for you to find what you need.

I sort my cards every time I get new cards.

I've been changing the way I sort cards. Originally I had them in WUBRG order organized numerically, with more recent sets at the front.
A few days ago, I separated the cards all of my cards in two sections: Sets that are standard legal and those that are not.

In the near future, I'm going to organize the non standard legal sets by their original sets. I'll keep every standard card separated by WUBRG order, but I'll keep the non standard cards in a "collect them all" kinda state. Which sounds fun! I LOVE organizing my cards

I'm kind of a maniac when it comes to card sorting. I have a large collection but it's all meticulously sorted.

Generally speaking, I sort by rarity, then color, then converted mana cost, then alphabetically. I also have some stuff that I keep in binders.

I have:
  • 3 boxes of mono-color commons
  • 3 boxes of mono-color uncommons
  • 1 box of mono-color rares & mythics
  • 1 box of multi-color and colorless commons
  • 1 box of multi-color and colorless uncommons
  • 1 box of multi-color and colorless rares & mythics
  • 1 binder for multi-color legends
  • 1 binder for mono-color legends
  • 1 binder for colorless legends
  • 1 binder for planeswalkers
  • 1 binder color-fixing rare lands
  • 1 binder for utility rare lands
  • 1 binder for alt-art promos
  • 1 box of full-art basic lands
  • 1 box of foil basic lands

I've never played Commander before, but my Local Game Store is really big on it so I might buy myself a deck... Maybe one of the brand new shiny precons that come out tomorrow?

Are there any impressions on them yet? I was thinking about getting the Blue Red Artifact one, since Kaladesh was my first set so I'm kind of nostalgic towards it. Are they good for beginners and is there anything I should look out for?

They are great for beginners, general consensus seems to be they are not as good as previous year's precons. I was thinking about buying one myself just can't decide which one. I am leaning towards the blue red artifact as well.

Commander VS also has a much longer video on the new decks along with LRR this friday i believe.

As for C18 i was really down on them at first as i don't much care for planeswalkers as commanders but i got mine this morning and me and some friends played 2 games and i really, really enjoyed Lord Windgrace and i can't wait to try out Saheeli, the Gifted and Aminatou, the Fateshifter this weekend. No interest in Estrid but i can't wait to tinker with them and make a deck with Yuriko.

allreasonstolive asked: Why the BAB Promo can't be a Masterpiece-alike of any card(even a powerful one) that can be normally obtained in packs?

The goal of the Buy-a-Box is to sell boxes at the local game stores. It just being in the product doesn't accomplish that goal.

Also, I want to stress something that Blake said on the Magic stream today - there are more copies of Nexus of Fate than there are printed versions of any Core 2019 mythic rare card. Nexus of Fate is rarer than a Core 2019 rare but less rare than a Core 2019 mythic rare.

We don't normally talk about how many we print of a card, but Blake publicly clarified this because there's a misconception that Nexus of Fate is far rarer than it actually is.

August 09, 2018

Of course, this print rate doesn't mean it goes to players at the same or higher rate than a normal mythic.

Not very encouraging that WotC is not able to admit their big mistake. Normal mythics can be opened by lgs specifically to sell them and thus make them available to people who want them. The BAB promo probably lands to 99% in a binder and never enters the secondary market (just a blind guess but you get my point). Therefore the actual "free float" supply is much lower. WotC either knows this and is dishonest in their answer or does not know that which is even scarier as it shows a lot of incompetence.
