Castlevania has sold twice as much as Bomberman with way less games. Castlevania has a sub-genre named after it. Cloud Strife only starred in ONE game in his series. He was added because he's the biggest character in an extremely historic and influential video game franchise. Simon will get added for the same reason. Also, being relevant to Nintendo fans has very little (if anything) to do with third party characters' inclusions. Sakurai adds characters that are relevant to gaming as a whole, not solely Nintendo. Just like every other third party franchise in Smash, Castlevania transcends Nintendo.
Would love the direct to start with James Rolfe saying "This game sucks" and then, Simon Belmont appears.

Expecting a low amount of newcomers.
There is no logic to saying "we will get X amount minimum!". Stop placing overly high expectations and for once listen to what Sakurai had to say. If it turns out there are actually more than a few newcomers, great, but otherwise keep expectations low.

Her unique trait is that she has the tripping mechanic from Brawl.
Somebody already mentioned the AVGN reviews so I'm gonna highlight another favorite Youtuber of mine's retrospective. SomecallmeJohnny.
He's done 1-4,Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, and Symphony of the Night.
Notice how the Vania part of Metroidvania is the suffix. Castlevania is subservient to Metroid as Simon is subservient to Samus (don't google this).
Bomberman is a multiplayer franchise so those who never owned Bomberman may have at least played it. He predates Castlevania and his NES title was very successful. Plus Hudson Soft had a huge influence on the Japanese gaming scene. Like I said they were the FIRST third party developer to put a game on the Famicom and even entered the console market.
While Cloud is almost certainly the most popular FF protagonist, that cant be said for Simon. Alucard and Soma and probably more popular. Simon has cred because he's first, but that would be like putting Altair in Smash over the far more beloved Ezio.
I will only forgive Sakurai if he swerved us and reveals that the Castlevania character is Dracula or a giant Frankenstein.

Hudson's history includes being both a rival and a partner with Nintendo. They made a bunch of the Nintendo Wars games, basing it off their own Nectaris / Military Madness, which expanded on the original Famicom Wars' mechanics. They were also the original developer of Mario Party, and remained with the series until 8. They also made the Pokemon Trading Card Game game, ported a bunch of Nintendo games to Japanese computers, and made the weirdo quasi-port Super Mario Bros Special.

Incineroar though, if what ive read in this thread is right... Aren't there better pokemon designs that are more popular?
I can't believe Nintendo possibly spoiled an important part of their own Direct just to get more clicks and followers
Leaker who said Simon was coming also said the new Pokémon wouldn't be Decidueye/Mimikyu/Lycanroc. People have gravitated toward Incineroar.
He also said something similar for Smash 4, and we all know how that went.
