"You wanna know how I got these scars? My intern was a drinker. One night he went crazier than usual and decided to leak out a character before the direct. I couldn't believe what he did...and he just laughed! He asked me "why so serious?"

He never had a chance and I'm not sure why people convinced themselves he ever did. Though I'm fully expecting to people to start up the K Rool craziness again next time there's a direct.

K Rool is essentially deconfirmed.

Unless I'm missing something, K. Rool has as much a chance as anyone still.

The leaker that was confirmed tonight also said K Rool wasn't in.

There were confirmed leaks for Smash 4, and none of them predicted all of the characters, like Duck Hunt or Bowser Jr. or Dark Pit until the finished game reached the ESRB.

The thing is though, the Belmont confirmation is one in the same with the K Rool deconfirmation. Belmont in and K Rool out is from the same leak. I also suspect that K Rool has no chance as DLC.

You know it would one of these

Since we have the Ice Climbers back, let's take that "several characters in one" mechanic all the way!

If this guy knows all the characters why doesn't he just go ahead and tell us now?

He doesn't know characters. Didn't believe in Vergeben, but now Simon is apparently coming after all.

Thank you! Honestly I think Simon is way better than Goku in Super Smash, since its goal should be gathering the most icon characters which were originally features in videogames.
Despite all the rumours of tonight, I continue to hope an Adventure Mode could be revealed, maybe in the next Smash Bros Direct, it would be a great plus.

"Tonight's update is the 8th music track added to the site"
*Counts number of music tracks on the site*
*11*
Right...

There were 4 to begin with, There have only been 7 updates.
Those 4 were still technicaly added to the site.

I don't mind. I certainly would of chosen Simon over Bomberman as the second Konami rep any time of the week.
If we go back to the Brawl days (Smash 4 didn't have much talk cos without Snake, no point speculating anything else Konami) Simon was one of the most popular picks. I was often posting the Captain N design for fun.

Snake and Simon feel like a good balance of representation for Konami. Metal Gear is the infinitely more important and popular series for Konami, but Castlevania is more popular and iconic with the Nintendo crowd. It's basically the same thing with Ryu and Mega Man.

I'd have picked Simon over Snake for Konami's representative in Smash Bros. I'd also have picked Mega Man over Ryu.

(And I would have picked Cecil over Cloud, but I get why Sakurai made that particular call.)

Reminder. Snake was originally going to have a Beatmania arrangement of the MGS theme before it was pulled for obvious reasons.

Well, guess what other series has a Beatmania arrangement to use?

No way...

Killer7 for Smash!?

This song actually originated as an unused song in Killer7. The file name on the disc was "1stStaffRoll", indicating that it was meant to be used for the first set of credits after you complete the mission "Smile". Not sure why it ended up being replaced.

I've been looking up sales data and Bomberman for Switch has sold a million (1,000,000) copies.

I can't seem to find sales data for the Castlevania games on Switch. Can anyone help me?

To be fair, Super Bomberman R is the best selling game in its series in many years.

If we got a quality Castlevania on Switch it could hit those numbers.

How many of those games started Simon Belmont?

And pure sales are still not the biggest indicator of notoriety. How many PAC Man games have been sold? Probably less than a lot of franchises but no one would doubt his importance.

PLUS Bomberman is primarily a multiplayer game, so even those who never owned a game could may have at least played it with a friend.

Hmm, a character from a multiplayer focused franchise in Smash? Nah man let's put in someone wfrom Castlevania, a single player game. Let's pick the most beloved character!

No, not Alucard.

No, not Dracula.

No, not Soma.

No, not the wall turkey...

I know you're upset about Sakurai picking Simon over Bomberman, but this passive aggressive attitude isn't helping anyone.

https://sourcegaming.info/2016/01/21/sakuraixnomuraparttwo/

Sakurai: Yes (laughs). If you pull up a list of game designers born in 1970, there's quite a few big names: Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta),Fumito Ueda (ICO), Yoko Taro (NieR series), Jin Fujisawa and Yosuke Saito (Dragon Quest X), Chiyomaru Shikura (Steins;Gate), and the late Kenji Eno (D and others). Internationally, you have John Carmack, the father of FPS's, as well. As a generation, a lot of us were directly impacted by the dawn of the PC and the home gaming console. For me personally, it was the year 1986, when games like The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania were released, and I experienced physically interactive games. They had a big impact on me.

From the man himself. Castlevania was a HUGE influence on him, and he spoke of it in such a manner that he considers it comparable to The Legend of Zelda.

Objection. First, your PAC-MAN argument is irrelevant, as that series peaked as an arcade game. Both bomberman and castlevania are console game series from the same relative timeframe.

Furthermore, a vast majority from smash reps are from single player games, so claiming Bomberman is somehow more important because multiplayer is absurd.

Ganondorf's not in every Zelda game - hell neither is Zelda. By your logic, they'd be inadequate representatives and not worthy of being in Smash.

I like Persona(specificity 3-5) more then MegaTen so I'd prefer that.

Not that it matters as it'll never happen either way.

How many of the best selling Fire Emblem games star Marth?

It doesn't matter how you spin it in your head Castlevania is simply more well regarded then Bomberman.

Jack Frost is a SMT rep AND a Persona AND a Jack Bros rep. Everybody wins, hee ho!

I'd probably get over Joker getting in because the soundtrack will be nice. If he's DLC I'm doubling the cost in a donation to the Trevor Project though.
