Finally caught up.

That kiss was so awkward and forced. Holy shit. I was actually kind of worried for Seina with how flustered and confused she looked afterwards.

I also feel bad for Mayu in all this, but she's coming on way too strong. Everything went to hell after the perfect couple of Shion and Tsubasa left, lol.

What an episode. The surprising twist with Noah possibly being into Seina was great.
Speaking of Noah, question lists from Yui were probably way too much for him, given his laid back attitude. I wonder what Yui is going to do next - wait for some other guy to enter or leave.
Aya continues to be the best new addition, she's just great all around.
Can't wait for the chapel confession scene in the next episode, I smell a great trainwreck.
Kind of related, but I really hope Seina leaves soon. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like everything she does feels very fake and played up for the cameras.

I don't feel Noah was ever into Yui. I saw someone on Discord raising that Noah used Yui as a convenient shield from Mayu and that seems a lot more likely than there ever being even a slight romantic spark from him towards her.

Well, everyone saw the Yui/Noah thing coming I think. Never thought Noah was interested in Yui to begin with, and I don't think Yui is that disappointed so heh. I totally understand her whole "Don't waste my time and tell me right away you're not into me". Honestly while I still like him, Noah kinda irritated me here. Good to see Shouhei telling him to do the right thing.

On the other hand, my boy Nakamura is giving everything he's got while trying to keep cool, I love this doofus so goddamn much. He's easily my favorite TH boy ever right after Han-san.
Fuckin' dead at Shouhei's confession plan. I love him but he's gonna fall so hard, omg

I think that there definitely was a chance for Noah and Yui for hooking up, more as a casual fling of course. That said, even if that's true, it probably disappeared very quickly when it turned out she treats those things super seriously.
I still can't get over her first round of questions and talking about Noah behind his back with the other guys.
I mean, I understand where she's coming from, sure, but I just don't feel she's in the position to be such a stickler about some of that stuff.
Also, that last question - "do you like work"? Come on!

Wow OND is fantastic. Just finished part 3 and I'm so bummed it's over. I love everyone including Mayu who brings the "spice" and awkward thirst.

Taka needs something to do though. It's weird to me... I guess he's older so the women aren't as interested but I think he's very attractive.

I just saw the part where Taka basically does this at the kitchen table.

I feel like she lied she liked it cause she's on tv and has apperence to keep up. Sure it kept happening but it was never initiated and was likely forced

Just finished binging part 3. Shion and Tsubasa are great and I hope those kids make it. Tsubasa's life is like a goddamn anime.

I feel bad for Mayu. She just needs to chill out and be herself. I was pleasantly surprised at how fast Noah figured her out. The 4 day reveal wasn't that surprising considering she was crying in the hallway about Shion after 1 day. That said, she needs to stop being so cold to Yui.

At first I thought Shohei's kiss was kinda funny but Seina's body language looked like someone who was not okay. I'm glad to see other people in the thread picked up on it, because the panel completely played it for laughs.

I don't know if it was in the regular panel part or the commentary track, but when Seina mentioned that the kissing continued in the car, I think they commented that if that one was a one off she didn't like, she wouldn't keep doing it later.
Might be misremembering it though, it was a while ago.

I felt so bad for Seina in Kiss out of Nowhere. She looked terrified at the fireplace and seemed like she was trying to get away from Shohei. Shohei doing this, and bringing up Mayu titties every fucking convo made him go from cool pop singer to total creep.

Yeah, Shohei mentions that. He also says that he's the one that initiated the kisses. I don't know.

Yeah, I don't know if I read too much into it, but that's the vibe I got. They get back, she doesn't really say anything but immediately goes over and puts Taka between herself and Shohei. She's uncharacteristically quiet about it while the others are talking.

It's entirely possible I'm reading too much into it and it's the editing on the show that's making it look a certain way. But right now that's how I'm leaning.

I'm about to finish the city terrace house. What should I watch after that, the original one or the Hawaii one? Is there one airing currently?

Opening New Doors is currently airing, Part 3 just went up on Netflix a few weeks ago. First 2 parts of Aloha State royally suck, but it starts picking up at Part 3 and the last few eps of Part 4 are absolutely wild. The original, Next Door, is top tier though. If you can get access to it, definitely watch it.

I started watching this and caught up with all OND episodes currently up on Netflix in about a week.

Tsu x Shion had me literally crying. So good :'(

That shit made me do an automatic 180º on Shohei right on the spot. My girlfriend and I were cringing so fucking hard. Fucking disgusting.

Dropping in to say i'm a convert. And I speak as someone who pretty much hates reality TV

Binged Boys & Girls and Opening for the past two months and caught up. Waiting to check out Aloha since i'm a bit burned out.

Is it me or is the ending of Boys & Girls one of the craziest moments in TV history?
Riko and Hayato sneak reveal. I lost my shit. That was some OldBoy/M.Night level twist right there.

and yeah back on topic that Shohei thing was offputting for myself too, but I think there are a lot of jarring moments throughout the entire show when the ills of Japanese culture sink in. On one hand thats what makes this show so interesting for myself, on the other I can only cringe hard.

about the kiss

While I agree that Shoheis kiss was too much I wonder what Seina was thinking afterwards. She never really rejected him. Was she appalled? Or not? I wonder what we missed

Finally got over the hump with Aloha State, partway into Season 3. Stalled out in Season 1 for ages. It's not as good as other seasons but I am enjoying it now.

Guy is awesome. That is all.

It's bonus footage. They call it Another Terrace. It doesn't get translated, but sometimes the subreddit people do it. The people translating the original season are thinking about moving onto translating Another Terrace clips after they finish Boys x Girls in a few weeks, so we might get translations for those soon.

Here's a post-show interview with the pair: https://www.reddit.com/r/terracehouse/comments/8un883/interview_of_shion_and_tsubasa_translated/

It's the end of Boys x Girls, so you'll want to watch that first.[/QUOTE]

about the kiss

Like you all, that was my initial interpretation: she looked terrified. And the fact that he apparently kissed her more in the car is puzzling. But then, her conversation with the other girls makes it ambiguous enough where I think the Vulture article is a bit too hasty in its interpretation. I mean, you certainly won't have me argue against the notion that Japan is waaaay behind many Western countries when it comes to women's rights and women's place in society (it is), but maybe wait until we see the aftermath?

It also doesn't help that he author is (understandably) operating under the assumption that the subtitles are an accurate translation of what Seina says:

But then she pauses, closing her eyes, and furrowing her brow. "I'm just really shocked," she mumbles.

In Japanese, she simply says 「そっか。びっくりしたな、とりあえず」, which can be interpreted a number of ways. びっくりした (bikkuri shita) just means "I was surprised", and while it can connote some sort of shock, it's far-fetched to assume it meant "really shocked" in this case, which, if I'm not mistaken, is much stronger and negative in English, and leaves no room for interpretation. Until we get more details, all this means is that she wasn't expecting it at all and so was startled. Plus, right before that, Yui goes "oh, so you didn't tell him to stop, you just let him do it", and Seina pauses for a second and replies "Er... Yeah, maybe I did a bit <laughs>".

None of this changes the fact that Seina's behavior after that episode was concerning, especially for long-time fans who've never seen her in this state before. It's possible that she's trying to put this in a positive light or act like everything's fine because of expectations in the show and in Japanese society. Vulture's intuition might turn out to be correct in the end. We'll see (or won't), but I'm not a fan of jumping to conclusions like that.

There are 4 more episodes on Japanese Netflix after this one. I'm gonna go watch them later to see if we learn more about this.

I mean, Seina got kissed while she was sitting on the floor, drunk out of her mind at a party during the first season and ended up going out with the dude, so the Shouhei kiss didn't shock me that much.

People are reacting based on Seina's behavior after the fact. The original Maa-kun kiss felt prettttttty different.

On the kiss debate:
To me, It comes across reasonably clearly that Seina is not attracted to Shohei and she seemed on the verge of tears both before getting into the taxi and in the brief scene when they arrived home. In a show with a lot of awkward albeit innocent moments, that scene stood out as uncomfortable. I can't comment on Japanese culture as a whole, but I do think a part of Seina going along with the Kiss is that there seems to be an expectation from the audience that the people on the show are there to go on dates and form these heterosexual couplings and if you're not doing that you are therefore uninteresting. I think Ami agreeing to go on some of the dates with Taka earlier in the season were motivated in the same way and the panel even speculated that her reasoning was to dispel the notion that she wasn't doing anything on the show.

That is definitely a possibility. I've seen the following episode on JP Netflix, but Seina barely appears in that one... Hopefully the whole thing becomes clearer in the next few episodes (one of the synopses makes me think so).

Random thought with regard to Ami in retrospect. She was weirdly dispassionate for most of her time - so it does make you wonder why she was even there.

On the other hand, there were a bunch of expectations being foist upon her even though she just wasn't that into any of the three guys that pursued her. Notably, she seemed to get along well in a platonic way with Shion without all the awkwardness.

It's similar to the Lauren situation in Hawaii. She was never going to go for catfish boy.

I have no idea why so many guys were into Ami. She seemed disinterested in everything. At least Lauren liked doing things. Those dudes had no idea how to take a hint. Like.....Misaki is single and cute as fuck and y'all fucking ignored her

OK, so I've powered through all 24 episodes that Swedish Netflix has in, well, two days. How does this work? Wikipedia says there's season four in Japan right now. Does it usually take long to get elsewhere?

Yes. 28 episodes have aired in Japan with episode 29 hitting on the 31st I believe.

The worldwide release is staggered 2-3 months behind usually.

Commentators made an interesting point about that once.

Despite Ami not being a fan favorite and basically being an emotionless robot, she was really well liked and loved by her housemates.
Commentators mentioned that there are those moments behind the scenes that we don't get to see or are cut that could make a world of difference. Also its interesting following castmembers on social media (mainly instagram from what i've seen). You get to see the moments inbetween what we are actually shown on the TV screen. I don't think i've seen Ami smile this much the entire show
3dRs1mh.png

This is in contrast with someone like Mayu where there is a bit of a disconnected with the rest of the housemates. Like Taka saying shes too loud, messy, and doesn't clean up lol. Its almost apparant that the other housemates are starting to loath her. lol

Don't watch B&G Next Door first, it's by far the best series and watching Aloha afterwards will hurt even more.
