Nintendo's internal developers are literally the best in the world. The level of craftsmanship, creativity, and joy in their software will always be one of my absolute favorite pleasures in life.

Combine that fact with the fact that the Switch is perhaps their most user-friendly, elegant, and lovable device ever, and ownership becomes a no-brainer.

It's only a year and a half old, but based on the software support and fervor for it thus far I truly think it has a future just as bright as the SNES ahead of it. This is especially true if you missed the Wii U, because so far it has been pumping out classic after classic.

Nintendo is firing on all cylinders for the first time in almostttwo decades, and it's a truly wonderful thing to experience.

Just check the exclusives it has and see if you are interested in them, the handheld mode is also amazing.
Im curious about mario because havent played a mario game since n64, zelda is a no brainer. Im also curious about third party support. I like the idea of playing skyrim, doom and wolfenstein anywhere. How does 3rd party support look for the future? Also it does have fortnite as well. Not a huge fan but better than my iphone

It's no PlayStation or Xbox but it seems to be improving and it'll be better than the last 3 Nintendo systems (Wii U, 3DS, and Wii). Personally, I got more out of my Switch in a year than I did with the PS4 in two but tastes and preferences will vary. Super Mario Odyssey is great, just not Super Mario Galaxy great. Breath of the Wild is phenomenal and, in my eyes, by far the best game this generation. Some notable 3rd party releases would be games like Shovel Knight, Hollow Knight, and Rocket League. Also don't sleep on other Nintendo games like Splatoon 2 and Donky Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Hows skyrim on switch, had it on ps3 and it was god awful

As a PC, Xbox One X, and PS4 Pro owner, let me tell you that I'll never play Skyrim anywhere else ever again. It runs and looks beautifully on the Switch and it's the only version that I've actually stuck with for the long haul.

The above poster is right -- the Switch version of any multiplatform game will always be the least impressive, visually -- but you WILL find games you're in love with on the console. The first-party support is world class. You can't miss out on the Nintendo games this gen, they've been incredible. I've also found a lot of multi-plats that I prefer on Switch. Skyrim, Hand of Fate 2, and Thumper are just three examples (came to mind because I've been playing them lately).

If you need convincing you shouldn't buy one

This. Evidently, the fact that the OP is asking for convincing indicates he's still yet to see something he really wants that he can only get on the Switch.

I love the Nintendo Switch, personally. I finished Super Mario Odyssey last week and I completed Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle just 5 minutes ago - literally watching the credits roll as I type this.

Those two games were both fantastic, and there's already a good deal of great games currently available for the Switch besides the two aforementioned games. Granted, a large amount of them are remasters - Bayonetta 1 & 2, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokkén Tournament DX - but these are in abundance mostly due to the fact that the Wii U sold so poorly and Nintendo want to give them another chance, which I'm happy about.

And in addition to all of those games, there's also ARMS, Kirby: Star Allies, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Tennis Aces, Octopath Traveller, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. And with games like Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Let's Go and Pokémon 2019, Super Mario Party, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Yoshi all on the Horizon, there is much content for Nintendo Switch. You'll love it.

I really hate it when people make these threads. They put zero effort into researching the console and the games and don't really ask for anything specific. If you're asking, you're probably not gonna like it.

Do you care for playing on handheld?

Do you care for Nintendo first party?

If yes for either, get one.

If no for both, dont get it.

You know the problem with asking a question like that here is the overwhelming majority of people are just going to give you grief or make jokes. I'll at least try to be helpful before I start making jokes...

It's hard to recommend games without knowing what you like, so I'll forgo any lists. As far as 3rd party support, there should be very little missing from the Indie scene... the system has just been too dominate for many to miss it. Mid-budget games should be fairly well represented on the system, too. The big budget games will largely miss the system, depending on how slow the publishers can transition. The system should see better support than any other Nintendo console in recent history... it's very successful and didn't get pigeon-holed as a casual only system.

But the main reason to buy a Switch: Once you buy it, you can immediately complain about how much you are regretting it here at Resetera. While you don't technically have to buy one to do that... you get an automatic "Imnotafanboy" buff. All the cool kids do it and its a great way to make friends around here.

Really really good. The graphics are based on the special edition's (with some downgrades but not on the level of Doom). It honestly looks stunning and crisp on the console screen, less so on TV since it's 900p but I'll take it.

Paid full price and didn't regret it, even though I paid like 10 bucks for the original on Steam + installed mods.

Gyro aiming is fun and the bite sized questing is really suitable for short pick-up-and-play sessions.

Hoping for mod support at some point but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I assume you don't have a Wii U either, which means you haven't played Breath of the Wild. And you haven't played Super Mario Odyssey. That is incorrect.

Portability is a huge factor here. Im a college senior about to finish in 5 organizations. Last year I had little time to play xbox, even with a less condensed schedule. Now I have a switch and Im able to play Mario Kart with friends in the cafeteria amd play other ges like Hollow Knight, LA Noir, and so on on the go.

Also, I bought Rocket League on steam in 2015, played about 5 hours I think. I double dipped on Switchex and am about 50 hours in. I even let my friends use the PC while Im on Switch for crossplay.

TLDR; If your on the go and want to play with friends, get it.

depends on how much you want to splurge on yourself

90% of everything you want is probably already playable to you. depends on if portability and the select exclusives are worth $300 or whatever the yen conversion is

wait for Switch lite or whatever Nintendo calls it. Consoles are more expensive in Japan iirc.
Btw how's Japan? I'm literally going to Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo and Hiroshima in december (plus other places). This might derail the conversation a bit but I would love some tips or something!

I have an inkling that after you buy it you'll ask yourself why you waited so long. I have never played as many games in my life as I have since I got my Switch.

Don't tell me what to fuckin' do, you're not my dad

Really though, there isn't much on the Switch that you can't get elsewhere (except for those tasty Nintendo first-parties) and unless you like the portability, I wouldn't recommend it.

But nearly 20 million people like the portability, so to each their own. You might like it.

When in Osaka eat everything! Go to Dontonbori, they also have free walking tours to show you the main sites insertpalpatinedoit.gif

Kyoto is smaller and has more temples and traditional things. I suggest Inari, the bamboo forest, Manga museum and also Samurai and Ninja Museum

Tokyo, Nakano Braodway, Shibuya crossing, Electric town aka Akhibara (go at dusk)

And Hiroshima all the memorials you can, they are gorgeous.

My wife and I have been here a week and its been a huge heat wave . 40 C and 80% humidity, but we survive by going out early, coming home arouns 1 catch a small nap, cold shower and out again. Fucking phenomenal trip so far

For me at least, I've learned to appreciate how much more I enjoy the games that I play on my Switch that I might be able to play elsewhere. Indies especially. A game like Sonic Mania I might've only played once on any other platform. But due to the portability of the switch and the fact that I can play it anytime I'm comfy, I've played through it multiple times over. This is in part by how convenient the Switch is, but also because of how well indies fit in perfectly on the Switch whether you play portable, or on the big screen. Currently, I'm playing through Celeste and it's the perfect game for the switch. I can play handheld mode while the family is watching the tv, and it plays amazingly and feels beautiful. And then when they're done, I can pop it in the dock and MAN do those graphics and colors pop even more when it's on the big screen. And then after that, when I wanna go to bed I can take it out, and lay in bed and play for another half an hour or so!
