Keep your white mouth fucking shut unless you have evidence that the kids are being abused.

Anything else shut it.

Life has entered one big unknown phase in a short amount of time. I find the foster/adoption/rental housing/hang out spot/whatever it is next door weird and another unknown.

I'm already stressed from having my life thrown into chaos, it's just one more thing. And not that it's any of yalls business but my son has a disability so I worry about him being in this new "less safe" area.

But yes, I'm sure it's all purely racism.

You have so much stress in your own life that other peoples lives stress you out? You should see a therapist.

I don't wanna add onto the dogpiling but I do wonder how exactly you thought "Of different ethnicities." was gonna go down on Resetera's off-topic of all places.

Anyway, don't interfere in other peoples business and all that. Let people live if they're not harming anyone. I've grown up in a shitty neighbourhood with Police turning up every week and never had an issue at my door.

That said, what do you mean "structures"? Like shacks for living in or more like kids slides swings?

Edit: NVM, found the earlier post of you decribing the shacks. It's a bit unusual, but unless you hear something insane like gunshots or screaming coming from there it's not worth bothering about.

Tons of shitty advice in this thread other than telling OP to mind their own fucking business.

Lotta harsh words being tossed around at the OP as well.

You're in a low income area OP. If people are dropping their kids off at what could be a day care, calling protective services isnt going to help anyone. Obviously those parents cant afford cream of the crop daycare services and the people watching those kids are doing so to get by.

Now then, welcome to the neighborhood, and mind your own business.

Motor home, a garage size structure and 3 shed like structures. Which that's all they may be. That's all I could see, they have a high solid metal fence.

I assume (possibly incorrectly) that due to the apparent number of dwellers they may be livable structures.

Well it's a bit unusual but like others have said it's probably a foster home or something.

Unless you hear a kid screaming from there or something you gotta just assume it's on the level.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, OP. That said, keeping to yourself and not getting involved is probably the best decision.

So a garage and a few sheds? Calling them "structures" is weird, I dunno.

If you keep peeking over there you are gonna get your neighbors like "do I have to be worried about this person?", especially assuming they do have a daycare there and they want to keep the kids safe.

Good thing about the "bad side of town", OP, is that everyone's feeling the same stress you are. Being poor sucks - having said that, your multi-child-multi-ethnic-structure dweller neighbours might be able to give you a few pointers for coping with the new area and navigating it with your son.

Don't do it, though, if it turns out the children are actually a gang of meth cooking bikers with dwarfism.

As boys in the hood famously said " if it ain't bothering you, don't bother it.". Unless you see abuse or people asking for help, as others have said mind your business.

Also remember you are no better than they are so keep your nose out the sky and worry about your own family.

Think of it this way - you just moved in, so if anything out of the ordinary happens, suspicion will naturally fall to you in the rumor mill. Keep your head down and keep moving forwards.

Try and move and get to a better part of town. And don't start anything
I'm not even convinced the OP lives in a bad part of town.

The area has a reputation for high crime but crime is actually low, for example.

The negative reputation of the area just seems like the casual racism you often hear about predominantly minority communities.

Just don't start crying when the police show up.
It's how they know to arrest OP instead of the neighbors.

Cops show up, nod to the neighbors who they already know, and just open the back door of the cruiser. while our wailing OP just gets in, defeated. Neighbors friendly wave as they drive off.

Era posters: complain about people making small talk in the checkout line but ready to investigate neighbors minding their own business.

Due to financial reason with helping of shit falling apart at the last minute and scrambling to find a new place, I had to move the family to what is considered the "bad side" of town.

And really i wouldn't be to worried but my new neighbors are doing... something.

There are a lot of kids. Of different ethnicities. Their back yard has several structures and people come and go and talk to the kids.

I was thinking maybe the owner is "renting rooms", though my wife thinks they may be foster parents. My mother, who doesn't live with us, is sure it's drugs.

Anything I can do aside from knocking on their door and asking to find out what's up to ease our minds? I hate to be "that guy" but it is what it is.

The first thing I thought half way through your post was "Foster Home". It may not be specifically Foster parents. Foster homes sometime work as just a home they can stay at til they agree out of the system or the state figures out what to do with them.

It could also be a home for women that suffered domestic abuse. They will often stay til they are stable enough to move out.

Guys I feel like ERA is really, finally starting to settle into a great place. With all these crazy (and highly entertaining) threads today, it feels like the old place again.

To the OP, sounds like a day care which you certainly wouldn't be seeing run out of a residential property on the good side of town. I can totally understand your reasons for worrying but to need to fly under the radar on this one.

OP, go introduce yourself to the neighbors if you're feeling this anxious about shit. I know it's hard but figure it out.

It sounds like a working-class neighborhood in a suburb of a major city, not the bad side of town. If it's a relatively crime-free area, anyway. And bad sides of town aren't usually all that bad during the day, as someone who used to routinely walk through the "bad" part of the Bronx almost daily. Just stay alert, don't be nosy, and give dudes the head nod if you make eye contact.

This is getting weird and the thread has progressed to OP snooping on these people

I have obviously no idea what is going on there. It doesn't seem like a massive issue at all but if everybody minds their own business, organized crime thrives.
I am amazed at how everyone just assumes the op is nuts.
Good job everyone, just don't be "that guy".

if you find out something ugly is really goin on just call the police. It really does sound like a daycare though.

This thread made me realize that when I was a kid I grew up with 2 black families next to me on both sides.

Dear god if I only knew the danger I was in!

Yeah, I bet we'd all feel a lot safer if every scared white family immediately jumps to conclusions and calls the cops whenever they spot 'ethnic folks' using swimming pools, buying groceries or driving a nice car. I mean, can't have that, right?

Neighbors across from me run a puppy mill and likely sell drugs. They're full on white trash. I could hear the matriarch of the house screaming to someone on the phone about how she lost her job to a woman who couldn't even speak English and that this was America, god dammit.

It's great drama. Riveting. Keep your head down, OP. Interfering is a good way to get a target on your back.

Nope, go back and actually read the post

You didnt say shit. You have no idea what you are talking about. Its amazing how these stereotypes are validated by people like you in real time. Mind your own damn business. He described kids playing, a freaking day care, and people that AREN'T white, and here you come with claims of thriving organized crime? FOH.

I'm still amazed at how people take "various kids talking to random people who pull up to the driveway" as "black people using pools and buying groceries".

But as pointed out by others here, people are going to read into things as they see fit and usually jump to the most extreme ideal.

Or maybe, just maybe, you simply have no clue what these people are doing, whether these kids are as 'various' as you think or whether these people pulling up are actually 'random'. You just moved there for crying out loud.

Nah. You ascribe something nefarious to this shit for some reason when it basically distills down to ethnic people driving cars and talking. Why not knock on the door to at least introduce yourself as the new neighbour? Maybe it can alleviate some of your 'concerns'.
