I will bite the lesser fidelity for portability. Also with that art style it is not that noticeable.

Not really surprising, VC4 looks and play just like VC1, which was originally released a decade ago and is far from being a demanding game, even my very weak fanless laptop runs it just fine.

Glad to see that they have made improvements since the earlier videos. Going to download as soon as I get home. Might keep my Switch SE.

There's a big-ass difference in image quality, not enough to bother me though, and certainly much less pronounced than the image quality hit that the overwhelming majority of same gen console -> portable transitions have caught over the years.

I'm watching this on my phone and I don't know which side is which so that bodes well anyways.

The Switch version does look impressive. But it also highlights how unimpressive the PS4 version is to me. Can we talk about why the PS4 version isn't hitting 60 fps? Am I wrong in feeling like it definitely should be able to do that?

Really no excuse no longer interested in the game. Well maybe in deep deep sale used eventually or just avoid it altogether lots of other games to look forward too hmm.... this game does not look much different than Valkyria Chronicles
All the more reason why this should be able to run at 60 fps on PS4 (especially Pro). It looks like a PS3 game. Really surprised, and a bit disappointed it's locked to 30 fps on PS4. At least it's gonna have 4K support to make up for it, right?!

I mean, on the one hand I agree with you two on principle. On the other hand, I also don't see how 60fps would actually benefit a turn based game is all.

Wow, that looks really good on Switch. I'm glad.

Now, then, Switch or PC...

Yeah, but principle matters. I wasn't too thrilled when Resident Evil Origins was capped to 30 fps on consoles for no good reason. And there are plenty of amazing looking games on PS4 that can hit a solid 60 fps wthout issues. Meanwhile, this simple looking game with great art direction doesn't.

So that really makes me wonder if they even bothered to give it 4K support. If it doesn't have that, I'll probably vote with my wallet because 30 fps and no 4K support on a game this simple looking is not acceptable to me.

You could be it depends on how cpu instensive the game is.

There is no set measurement to what hardware should be able to do per title. It's all in how it is programmed for that hardware.

DF had a good video on how different games are effected differently by hardware. Some are cpu bottle necked some are more gpu intensive but none of them are affected exactly the same.

Yeah, but... isn't this running on the same engine as VC Rematered?

Best I can tell, it seems like there are no Pro features for this game whatsoever (for now, it's possible they do add them after the western release). So, uh... yeah haha.

That's not that big of a difference in IQ considering the technical gap between the two systems.

That's about what I'd expect out of a console that's 4 times less powerful than the other.

I'm ok with it though, the tradeoff seems reasonable to me. I'll still wait for the final release to come out though, just to be sure the framerate/framepacing are OK. I'm not in a hurry with the VC series anyways.

Looks good on the Switch which is what I'm getting it on, but it does make me realize a Switch Pro or Switch 2 with a 1080p screen will be great.

the visuals are similar for graphical quality, but the low blurry resolution just kills all the cool watercolor effect transforming it in another Xenoblade Chronicles 2. (not a compliment)

It's fine if it doesn't bother you, but to say there is no difference is just plain wrong.

The shadow resolution is also clearly lower, noticeable on characters.

Playing the Switch demo right now as well, handheld is definitely not native res.

Yup, I was concerned and conflicted where I wanted to buy this, but the Switch demo pretty much removed all doubt. Seems like a quality job all things considered.

Switch for me.

The original Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 still looks better than most video games today. It would take a huge fuckup to make the Switch version bad.

These comparsion videos really should be uploaded at 4K60 to see more of the fine details, youtube is just to muddy @1080p60. The Switch version seems to be holding up good though.
