I'm going to buy it anyway, but it would be nice to have a PC demo to see e.g. whether it supports >60 FPS.

We do know that it has ultrawidescreen support, which I really didn't expect. (But it would also be nice to see how good the implementation of that is)

Confirmed that the DLC mentioned in the PR for the Memoirs from Battle Edition will be sold separately at a later date:

Glad to hear it runs well on switch but since I got the CE locked in at BB for PS4 and this to me is a Sony franchise, gonna stick with ps4 on this one. Also nice to see another demo that lets you continue progress

Its certainly a return to the roots, so much in fact, its like i'm playing the first game again. Just with a different squad.

The performance is a bit of a disappointment, coming from VC1 Remaster. And I don't think it even looks that much better than the first game. But its a proper new VC game, not some bullshit like Revolutions or even VC2 which I tought was boring af.

Woah, woah, woah. The VC1 crossover DLC thing is exclusive to the collector's edition??

Great impressions from what I've seen so far. Is the game releasing on PC the same day as the consoles? If so I will probably pick it up there.

this is a thing? i didnt know. Maybe thats why it felt like scouts where underpowered when I played on pc and shock trooper were amazing on defense. Like i saw some videos of people rushing scouts and i never undestood how it was even possible
It was a thing for the PC port, it was soon patched (it was great playing unpatched though, VC1 is too easy otherwise).
Basically at 60fps you were getting 2x the damage during interception fire, everything else was the same though.

And even with that bug it was super-easy to scout rush, you just needed orders (defend and evade orders stacked make Alicia near invincible).

Glad to see the textures are improved on the Switch, makes it a much easier decision to purchase it. I still need to finish VC1 so maybe I'll get back to it later tonight and see what I can do. I'm not in a particular hurry though because I'm getting Dragon Quest XI that month, so I can afford to take my time.

Preorder/Preload now up on Xbox One (28.05 GB)
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/valkyria-chronicles-4-digital-pre-order/c1r2ll6lt6l9

Comes with "A Captainless Squad" Mission. Mission description is in the spoilers just in case.
Winter, 1935 EC. Squad E, traveling now aboard the snow cruiser Centurion, notices one day that rescue dog Ragnarok has gone missing. Feeling guilty for neglecting him, members of Squad E sneak out to find the lost pup. Before long, though, they find themselves embroiled in a "picnic" of a decidedly unpastoral nature... This story can be played after completing Chapter 10 of the main story. To access this story, go to Book Mode > Menu > Extra Stories.

I see. I never beat that game really, I was super interested going in but I could never work out a gameplan that wasnt sniping people and then pushing out so my battles end up being super slow. It also didnt help that there were like 3 or 4 cutscenes before a battle, at one point i just skipped a few of them and the game loaded a cutscene with the cast on a cementery, I was like "the fuck, who died and when?". I dropped it shortly after, maybe i should try again, I definitely mostly ignore the orders so maybe thats why i didnt do as good as i could

It's been 7 years since I touched the first VC, so naturally, I come up with the dumbest decisions during this demo haha

Yeah, if you play tactical ignoring the strangeness of the game you probably aren't gonna have much fun.
My suggestion for vanilla VC1 is to always try to abuse scouts, they can do pretty much everything by themselves and are the most mobile troops (if you want the best rank you have to go fast).
Deploy the other troops depending on the need of the mission (well, you are going to have Rosie and Largo for CP so you are always pretty much covered, and snipers at the start of the game are a bit underpowered, you can safely skip them in most of new game and abuse Marina's ultimate accuracy in new game plus), save every couple of turns and when you're in trouble use orders, the defensive one are OP and some of the offensive one let you destroy a tank with shocktroopers or even scouts.

But, anyway, if you don't enjoy anime tropes I don't think you will really love the series since it's really really anime in that regard (and VC4 seems to take it a step further).

Is VC1 looked at 60fps? I don't remember :S

Switch port seems solid.

Hey Sega, please bring the port of VC1 to the west.

I thought that was already confirmed to be a thing? I guess I was mistaken?

Not releasing it outside of Japan would be incredibly short-sighted considering how FE was delayed and the fact that these kinda games have done well oversees thus far on Switch.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain Sega has said nothing of a western release of VC1 on Switch.

I can see why you'd avoid Denuvo as it is. Avoiding Denuvo for console though, I don't get the thinking here.
Have the CE preordered and not knowing when and how much the 2 extra DLCs will costs on pc, I may just stick with what I have. I'd be playing with a controller on pc anyway but yeah, Denuvo is a big enough deal for me to go console instead.

Which then again raise a question on why. I mean, I can get the anti-DRM stance. I don't get the idea to go for more DRM instead.

I'd much rather play a game on ps4 than have denuvo on my pc. I'm the type that likes to get others into series I like, so sharing this with coworkers and friends would be a plus for me as well.

Blame pirates for the absence of demo on PC. If they put Denuvo in the demo it gives crackers a headstart to be ready for release day and if they release the demo exe without Denuvo it makes cracking it later on far easier. Oh well, I'll get the demo on PS4 and providing the PC version is technically good, purchase that one.

I thought so to some time ago, but was corrected here on Era. It is in fact confirmed for release in the west..

Sorry for not providing a link but it's out there somewhere :>

A Google search turns up nothing regarding a western release.

Edit - Nevermind! It hasn't been officially announced but that tweet above essentially confirms it!

Well OK then aside from actual solid confirmation this is the next best thing.

Like I said before though I think they're missing an opportunity by not releasing it ASAP but whatever. At least we'll be seeing it eventually..?

Edit: thanks for asking the question! :)

I'm considering playing VC1. Does the demo have any major spoilers for it, or am I safe using it as a way to see how the series plays?

Damn, no demo on Steam? I wasn't in a hurry to buy it since I'm playing Yakuza 0 and Shenmue 1/2 is gonna release soon, but I would have gladly checked it out.

Awesome!

I'm currently playing VC4 on Switch and it runs really, really well in handheld mode which is not surprising since Sega really knows how to create solid ports for the system, Shining Resonance's performance was also pretty good (Yes, the game is not super amazing or anything but it still ran quite solidly).

The gameplay is classic VC and therefore is great, I have been missing this series since the PS3 and I hope they release the original on Switch soon to revive those memories.

User warned: Attempting to rile up other users into platform wars.
It's a turn based strategy game. Get off your high horse

60fps is always better than 30fps no matter the genre.
(and the game isn't exactly "turn based" not in the traditional SRPG sense, you can move around the battlefield in real time)

If I have the option between 60fps or 30fps, why I wouldn't be happy to have the choice of playing it at 60fps?
